  1. I was on the 25 May cruise and Princess were aware of the problem the day before we sailed. We were emailed about the issue and asked to arrive early for boarding, hoping for an earlier departure. Was advised we would be late (5.00PM) into Noumea and would receive $100.00 obc/person as comp[ensation. On Tuesday morning around 930, the captain advised us that we were behind schedule and would not make Noumea until approx. 7.00pm, and due to this late arrival they were cancelling the stop. Another $100.00 obc/ person was to be given as compensation. We were pretty happy with the process, and had a great night out drinking free cocktails.

The rest of the cruise went as planned.

Now, I have been booked on the 24Nov14 PNG cruise for some months, and after reading the previous posts became concerned as to if we would be able to make all of our port calls,

So, I rang princess this morning and spoke to Devan or maybe it was Bevan. I voiced my concerns and he told me it was just a generator problem that would be fixed in the next week or two and my cruise would not be effected. I told him that I had read it was a "broken crank" that required dry dock, abd he again assured me that it was just a generator issue, and that if something as major as a crank was broken they wouldn't wait until next year to repair it, they would cancel a cruise and dry dock it asap.

Take what you will from this info, but, still sounds a bit iffy to me. I will keep an eye on this thread and see if she is fixed soon.

    cheers

The mystery to me, at least, is what does a generator have to do with slower speeds?

  2. First cruise last week. Sea Princess Brisbane to Noumea, Isle of Pines and Port Vila. $100 compensation each for change to itinerary. Spoke to one of the most sailed on the cruise and he said the issue happened on the 25th May cruise. Broken crank, not fixable while she's in the water and so scheduled for dry dock next year. Some very unhappy people on our boat who booked tours in Noumea but as we didn't arrive until 5pm they were conducted in the dark so paid top price and saw nothing. Personally I had a fantastic time and have the bug now :D.

    Hope you are feeling better.

  3. I guess after reading all these mixed comments about the condition of the Century it can be perceived as a bit negative towards Celebrity . Having said that as a few of us discussed early in the piece; we are sailing on her for the ports of call; the character and ambience of this graceful lady and especially the great fares!. How could you go wrong. I have been on liners 40 years old in the 70's and only remember good times.

The original ship we were going to book on; Volendaam I know has had; or is having a refurbishment this year but I know we will not regret the experience on the Century. Our verandah cabin was the same price as an outside stateroom on a much lower deck on the Volendaam

Bring on September 16th Cheers Norm

    Hello Norm,

I was checking out this forum and it was such a delight to see your post.

Just want to say Hello to you and Jenny. Hope your shoulder is better....

  4. Not much is cheap in the bahamas..

Check out www.majestictoursbahamas.com for things to do.

There is a decent free beach (junkanoo beach) near the port. But the better beaches are flanked by hotels and you will need a day pass to use them.

Sheraton would be my pick $25 for adults / $12.50 for kids.

I don't think that your 4 yo would be allowed on a kayaking tour.

It looks like you are going during spring break.. it will be crowded and noise where ever you end up.

    Hello,

My name is Lydia and I need your expertise.

I would like to learn to snorkel along with my husband. This is a new idea and decided since we will be cruising to Nassau, it would be worth a try.

We are in our mid 60's. We would not want to spend too much money and think that the first lesson should be from the shore.

What are your thoughts on this as well as your opinion?

You can reply via email to my signature below.

    Thank you.

    Lydia

  5. @ONCRUISEMODE - We were on the Equinox in April 2012; the Executive Chef at that time was Eddie Thomas (from the U.S.A.!). Appears Ueli 'went missing' between November 2011 and April 2012.

That was extremely funny...... I am curious what happened to him. So, if anyone out there knows... please advise.

  6. c-legs:

It will be interesting to see who is promoted to Century.

We were on the Equinox in November 2011. The Executive Chef was Fantastic. His name was: Ueli Bachofner. I noticed that the he is not listed on the Equinox.

Does any one know what happened to him? Lydia

  7. Gonesalsa,

Yes, my husband and I have joined the roll call. Are you on the same ship?

We are leaving the US on the 15th and arriving in Rome on the 16th....

    What are your plans?

I am trying to get the train schedule in Messina to Taormina since I can't understand their website.
