  1. Are you looking under ports of call? Roatan? That's what I did but of course you can

Just google big French key. Fwiw bfk is the place the ship excursions go but across from bfk is little French key ..lfk...where you can book on your own and cruise ships don't use

I had booked lfk on my own last cruise..but..then I found out about the incredible snorkeling at tabyana beach and went there instead. Loved it. We decided to do the cruise ship excursion there only because it included loungers food snorkel equipment and transportation and we could stay basically as long as we wanted. The price was acceptable to me. Ncl getaway April 2018.

  2. All that because I said neither is an insurance company, LOL

Nope. Because I like to be clear in my posts and give details. I have no issue typing all the info needed. Also from your previous posts you are not totally aware of all the details about pre existing illness.

Read my post # 26 where I quoted you

Too many posters leave stuff out and post insufficient details and I took the opportunity to not do that. Enjoy the day

  3. Neither is an insurance company so I don't understand why you think one is better than the other

What do you mean by neither?

I know exactly what it is and that they sell policies but I now prefer tripinsurancestore over insuremytrip

They also have it narrowed down to certain choice policies

It was easy to find the one that fit my needs

I've used insuremytrip previously but I decided to give tripinsurancestore a look based on posts from cc

They spent almost an hour discussing my concerns....

And that is...the possibility of needing to cancel etc based on a non traveling elderly immediate relative

What needs serious consideration..IS...does that elderly relative have ...a PRE EXISTING..condition ...and would I even know about it? Not every parent burdening their child with their medical issues. Some like to stay silent you know...but fortunately my 93 yo mil is in great shape...but I'm still assuming there is something that could be considered pre existing at her age

I used to believe any pre existing condition of a non traveling family member didn't count but I now know it does

I used to believe only the pre existing conditions of traveling members counting. But now know differently

I always knew to buy insurance within a set time from initial deposit

I also never realized that certain policies count your deposit as the day you buy that cruise cert on the ship...but don't set a travel date

And I also learned via Steves blog that there are policies that don't care if you used a cert to book

The point is tripinsurancestore and Steves blog and their knowledgeable reps have easily and concisely given me more info than I've ever gotten before. I'm a long time savvy traveler who can arrange most everything on my own with no problem. I know when to take a tour I know when to diy. Haven't used a brick and mortar TA since 1988.

    I've used insuremytrip

I've bought directly from travel guard

I've bought directly from the ship

All in the past ...as I'm using Steve for travel insurance going forward...until I'm so old that the only policy that makes sense is actually the ships policy. Lol

I prefer the fact that Steve narrows it down to 10 or less choices....at excellent prices. Also, his blog and his website answer every possible question you have...even before you ask the question. Lol

  4. I don't think so. I just looked at both of my current policies for upcoming cruises. They both cover under Trip Cancellation and Interruption "Sickness or Injury of a Family Member not traveling with the insured." It goes on to say it must be "so disabling" to actually cause the cancellation/interruption, which death would certainly qualify for.

I can't speak for Royal's policy, but the two I have are from TravelGuard and Berkshire Hathaway.

Even if that sickness is well known and pre existing for your relative?

This is why you by asap after booking in order to exclude pre existing issues for all involved.

  5. Does the insurance cover cancelation of the cruise due to pregnancy? My wife is currently 9 weeks pregnant and were considering booking a Canada / New England for the 1st week of Sept. I wondered if we booked the cruise and if there was a complication, would the insurance cover it?

It could/would / might be covered under the complications of pregnancy clause but you dont really want a complication of course. Also you need to be sure it's not considered pre existing

This is why....I, as a very frequent and seasoned traveler, decided to CALL tripinsurancestore versus just buying online

  6. Don't you have to cancel 48 hours before your cruise starts for cancel for any reason insurance?

If so that wouldn't help OP get back to the states once on their cruise.

I would definitely call and talk to the insurance company before paying anything to be sure that the family member not cruising was covered.

    Bill

Then it's covered under trip interruption not trip cancellation

  7. That's nonsense. You are buying insurance for yourself, not every immediate family member you have at home

I used to agree with what you just said....but nope...things have changed....unless you buy a policy that excludes pre existing illness within the timeframe ...those non traveling family members do count. Of course that's ridiculous but we are talking insurance companies here which we all know are really in the real estate investment business anyway. Lol

So you give a quick call to the family member that concerns you and chat to make sure they are ok...then you make your plans...then you buy your insurance asap ...but you make sure to buy a policy that specifically covers non traveling family members pre existing conditions

When I realized non traveling family now was an issue I stopped using insuremytrip and went directly to my TELEPHONE and CALLED the trip insurance store

Spoke to Becky and Steve....great service!!!!!

  8. To: Royal Caribbean CEO Adam Goldstein

1050 Caribbean Way, Miami, FL 33132

Dear Mr Goldstein and Royal Caribbean.

My wife and I have been loyal customers of Royal Caribbean (RC) for over 20 years and we have enjoyed our cruises from beginning to end … from booking our cruises to disembarking the ship on the final day. Recently we have encountered your RC “non-refundable deposit program” (NR Program) which we do not agree with and we are now caught up in it.

For the first time since RC instituted the NR Program, we booked a cruise which required a $900 deposit. Due to unforeseen circumstances, just 30 days after our booking, and 15 months prior to the cruise departure, we had to cancel the cruise. Not only did we lose $200, as a “no change fee” but we also are in the process of possibly losing an additional $700 of our $900 deposit. RC’s NR Program states that after the $200 mandatory forfeiture, the remaining deposit balance cannot be refunded but must be used on a future RC cruise. This future cruise would have to be booked within 1 year of cancellation. In our case we live in Arizona and we do not fly. RC doesn’t have any cruises departing from California which makes it so difficult.

Why doesn’t RC increase the time limit to 2 years to ease the sting of losing $200 right off the bat, and to help the customer not lose the balance of their deposit? It would make your program a little more palletable and it would help your customers not feel like they are being thrown overboard by RC with this strict program!

In our situation we will be out of the country the entire year so in essence we will stand to lose our entire $900 deposit. RC will most definitely book our room to another customer because we cancelled our cruise 15 months before departure. We certainly could understand losing our deposit if it were 60 or even 90 days from sailing, however, 15 months and you are going to basically keep a loyal customer’s money when you will be receiving another loyal customers deposit when REFILLING the room that was cancelled 15 months earlier? This does not make sense to us.

For these reasons we will never sail with RC again and we are requesting your IT Department delete from your companies Data base, ALL of our personal information, including our loyal Crown and Anchor membership numbers. It is unfortunate that your non-refund policy has created a negative black mark on your companies reputation. Word of month spreads far and wide.

    Sincerely,

    Dennis and Kathie J.

    Payson, Arizona.

You should have waited until right before final payment to cancel

You would have bought yourself the additional 15 months back

  9. . Quote of the day. You win the internet!

While I'm thankful there are many of you reading and enjoying, I'm sorry if I can't keep it at the pace you'd prefer. Obviously I was on vacation last week and I've got lots of work to catch up on, not to mention laundry, grocery shopping, feeding Nicholas...

Which leads me to one other explanation. As those of you who have teens have probably experienced, they speak a different language. They don't use full works. They use letters. Or they say things like, "Can I get a 'hashtag' XD?" (Whatever the heck that means.) So, if you ever heard my son speak it would become clear that the use of the hashtag is actually quite appropriate.

I'd like to know why you keep using the term Nope Sandwich?

No or nope works just as well. Just wondering

Smoking is not a big problem...any first hand experience?

  11. With us, we wanted our kids to pursue their dreams. Ours had to have a stake in expensive things. Space camp? Save up $200 of the fee. She did and we paid the rest.

    Exactly

Mine wanted to be a lifeguard this year...$440 for certification...we split the cost....however she earned it all back before the middle of June

Btw I wanted to split the cost with her because I feel lifeguarding is an incredible skill...and a job she can have year round during the school year too if she wants

As an aside...my kids never ever took unpaid college internships either..they only applied for paid internships and they all got paid ones

They simply told the interviewers and/or placement counselors that they absolutely had to earn money and did not have the means to volunteer any longer as they were responsible for their own finances. Also college financial aid applications require some sort of summer earnings on the part of the student and will assume they earned $$$ wether they did or not

Saying what they did is a sign of a strong person. They got the jobs.

  12. This is my response to the itchy and scratchy poster and their post #59. Something went wrong with the quote feature.

Btw...you totally misunderstood the reason I posted what I did....

Never did I say I was raising olympians or professionals...you decided that by your interpretation of my post nor did I say spend money on things they are not good at...or not interested in....hence the reason I stated several possibilities for parents in my post.

My point is...if you give them access to their strengths and let them flourish in it...then when they are college kids they will actually have a decent income and won't need mommy and daddy $$$ so much because they won't be working minimum wage jobs. Or no jobs at all.

Again to reiterate....raise the kids with an eye to their future earning power....while they are being kids at age 12 why not put them in a camp that they can learn more than typical camp stuff

And perhaps by age 16 that will translate into something more than a minimum wage job or no job at all

Let them know early on that no matter how much money mommy and daddy have that they will need to make their own way in the world...so start now....

  13. There's no reason why your birth and marriage certificate should have the same place name. I would imagine there are millions of people who live and were married in a place different from that of their birth.

As previously stated, just make sure you are also bringing a government issued photo ID which has correct and up to date details.

Marriage licenses do have city of birth on it. The poster is saying it is incorrect as compared to BC

  14. I'd like to add one more thing...

Most awe inspiriting thing as a 24 yo and making my 1st solo trip...to club Med Tahiti no less...

Meeting a nice group of people at the Club and renting mini bikes/scooters and riding them into the jungle or perhaps the rainforest or let's just say a heavily wooded area behind the beach...and meeting up with a Polynesian family that grew and harvested pineapples...

We stumbled across the man his wife and 3 littles...all barefoot and smiling ...with machetes in their hands!! Ok well this is what they said to us..."come...sit...eat pineapple". We did of course and they chopped open those pineapples right there on the table.

Great memory..we took great pix of us with the family and we all said to ourselves that we hoped a company like Dole would never find this place. Paradise with a native family who lived in a hut in the jungle of moorea!!!
