Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I agree 100%. We’ve hosted numerous cocktail parties in our suite, and always preferred discussing the menu, etc. directly with room service versus our butler. Same with dinner reservations, special meals, excursions, and laundry, as we’ve had too many unsatisfactory outcomes when relying on our butler. While there’s no guarantee of a positive outcome even when dealing directly with room service, excursion desk, laundry, etc., at least you eliminate one more chance for miscommunication.
  2. We do not expect high-end restaurant quality food when dining on a cruise ship. Rather, we hope to dine on thoughtfully conceived and well-executed food on a ship that promotes a luxury experience, such as Silversea. We’re very familiar with Japanese cuisine, and our experience is that a highly skilled and specialized chef is not requisite to prepare a tasty and authentic meal. We love Japanese cuisine, but found the food at Kaiseki curious and embarrassing.
  3. We dined a few times at Kaiseki while on Silver Moon. We really enjoy and appreciate well prepared Japanese food, but found the dishes poorly executed and the flavor profile hardly reminiscent of authentic Japanese cuisine. Very disappointing.

We were on Seabourn Encore for 30 nights this past December-January. We much prefer Seabourn over Silversea, but were surprised how much more casual Seabourn passengers generally were dressed in the evening, as opposed to what we observed on Silversea.
  5. One should not expect the menu of the TK Grill to resemble Keller’s Bouchon in Napa Valley. TK Grill is a steakhouse and Bouchon is a French bistro.
  6. We were also on Silver Moon recently, and 100% agree with your assessment. We’re Seabourn Diamond members, and while SB isn’t perfect, it’s definitely our favorite cruise line. Surprised you didn’t have access to Fever Tree, as it’s always been available when requested.
  7. We love dining out, but don’t evaluate a fine dining experience based upon the inclusion of updated modern menus. Rather, we’re impressed with dishes that are conceptually sound and creative, utilize stellar ingredients, and are executed with expertise and finesse. We live close to the Napa Valley in CA, and are very familiar with the cuisine and dining experiences offered by Thomas Keller’s French Laundry, Bouchon, and Ad Hoc. While Seabourn’s TKG isn’t 100% perfect, we much prefer it over Keller’s Napa Valley restaurants.
  8. Similarly, we sailed Silversea’s Silver Moon last December, and our biggest disappointment was their food, with the exception of their specialty French restaurant. While Silversea’s Atlantide offerings are certainly deeper than Seabourn’s MDR, the execution of their dishes was consistently uninspiring. We don’t expect haute cuisine on a cruise, but we’re generally pleased with Seabourn’s cuisine, and enjoy TKG for its ambience, food execution, presentation, and service.
  9. Likewise. We were on Seabourn for four weeks this past April, and every special request was graciously granted.
  10. We’re Seabourn Diamond members and enjoy experiencing all cuisines. We were recently on Silversea’s Silver Moon and found the food generally very average, and definitely inferior to Seabourn. The food at Kaiseki was so disappointing, we had no desire to experience the restaurant after two tries. Our dining experience at La Dame was better, but did not warrant the upcharge.
  11. I agree 100%. We were on Silversea Silver Moon this past December and January, and while we had a good time, we were so happy to be back on Seabourn in March. Silversea offered a pleasant cruise, but Seabourn consistently provides us with an indulgent and very personal experience.
  12. Very good decision! We booked the Wintergarden for our Manaus to Monte Carlo cruise, and never regretted it. Enjoy!
  13. Why do you not consider mainland China a vacation spot? We’re Seabourn diamond members, and love to travel the world looking for new cultural experiences.
