  1. Okay this is interesting.

It was I that introduced Addict to caching.

I have cruised the Caribbean extensively while cruising. Now there are islands that have very few caches like St. Kitts, mind you there is a great cache near the port here that is a must do. Look for the cache at the Veterinary College. If you are lucky you will also get a tour of the college.

Barbados is great to cache and I have driven all around the island thanks to a friend of mine who lives there.

Antigua has two great Forts that have caches in them. One is a Virtual.

San Juan is by far the best Port and has many great caches.

St Thomas has a few but head over to St Johns via Red Hook for some better caches.

St. Martin now offers caches in two countries and recently a few caches have been added.

Of course doing PQ's before you leave can be a problem if caches go missing since you did them and cache. I usually run GSAK while on board.

Now for maps. if you are using a Garmin GPS you can download OSM http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ for your trip. I have used them for a couple of years and found them great.

If you have problems installing them let me know. I have a blog I can direct you to.

  2. We have been cruising RCI since 1997 and only do consecutive cruises and have yet to experience what you have described.

Well consider yourself lucky. The last 3 B2B cruises have all had problems. Why I have no idea.

I have never booked on=board so maybe that has something to do with it.

If the on-board product wasn't as good as it is I would have given up by now.

I have cruised 30+ years and thus have some idea of how things should work.

  3. your post makes no sense, I would suggest everyone ignore it.

What part of it makes no sense? So should I say your statement makes no sense?

RCL does the worst job of any cruise line on B2B cruise. All one has to do is look at just how many people do B2B cruises compared to other cruise lines. I have done many B2B cruises and as I said RCL has a great on-board product but they have the absolute worst back end there is. I just love those calls at 7 AM (pacific time zone and they are calling from eastern time zone) from RCL saying are you logged into your account and if so please log out so we can access your reservation. RCL doesn't even market B2B cruise while other cruise lines do. Other lines give you a discount for doing this.

Linking my cruises has caused my TA major problems as he has been locked out out of the reservation by the B2B desk. Not exactly sure what the B2B does but it appears they don't do much.

As for trying to get the same cabin when one books a Guarantee there is little to no effort made to put one in the same cabin. I have seen many cabins (same room numbers) that are available on a cruise yet I have ended up having to select a set of cabins for both cruise call my TA and get him to call RCL.

Yes there software is old and maybe the new software will sort this type of mess out.

  4. Ship - Serenade of the Seas (likely other ships in this class.)

    Deck - 3

    Stateroom # - 3131

    Stateroom Category – N - Interior

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) NO

This is the worst cabin I have ever had. Right below this cabin is the door to the crew mess. The door opens and slams shut every few minutes 24 hours a day. It will wake you up. I had this cabin on B2B cruise and tried to get a change but no other cabins were available.

  5. I have done many B2B cruises and learned a lot on this on RCI. This a very sore point with me and RCI.

I hate to say it but HAL and Princess make it seamless. The back end of their product is horrible for customer service but the front end is much better.

If you buy a wine package the first cruise and want to carry it over to the second week you have to "pre-select" what is left of your wine and your name is put on it for the second cruise. (They say it has to do with inventory) I have not had a problem selecting a different bottle from the bottles I selected the prior week.

I have had to return extension chords by 7:00 AM that I borrowed on the day of arrival or be charged for it. I have even talked to the Hotel Manager and this is the policy. You then have to go back and resign it out after 10AM.

Do not link your B2B cruises before you sail. This will lock your TA out of your reservation as soon as that happens. They will have to call RCI to make changes.

Oh yes RCI won't go out of their way to give you the same cabin both weeks. That is left up to you to check and then call.

    Hope this helps,

    Phil
