  1. Hi all, does anyone know if there are discounted massages on the Breakaway and the Getaway when the ship is in port? If so, do you know the discounted price and was it the same discount each port day?

I looked on some dailies and did a search of the forum but couldn't find much on this topic.

    Thanks so much!

Yes, there were specials on spa treatments during port days. I remember seeing slightly different packages each of the three days we were in Bermuda.

I do not recall seeing it on the dailies itself. I believe it was on a sheet a paper by itself inserted into the dailies.

  2. I had a very enjoyable cruise on POA this past Thanksgiving! I highly recommend it! Glad I took all the negative reviews with a grain of salt. And I am picky! Good food and service! Beautiful islands! For example- since the ship stayed overnight in Maui got to go to the luau I wanted to go to and see the breathtaking sunrise the next morning at Haleakala!!

  3. You should do research. Look at the Hawaii board for some help.

I didn't do the package. Flew into Oahu a few days before and stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach- great location and post cruise Outrigger on the Reef- also a great location. Enjoyed both hotels very much. Ate dinner at the Marriott that NCL uses. From what I saw was not a fan of the property. Also further away from the cruise port. Went to Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, etc by renting a car. Think that was a great decision for us.

  4. Can't answer all of your questions but I was in 10166, a balcony stateroom, last month. Not as far forward as yours. I do not get seasick at all. Felt my cruise was very smooth and barely any movement!! Friends had a stateroom a few staterooms more forward and didn't feel any movement and one of my friends is prone to seasickness.

  5. Like cruising golfer said! And you benefit in the end.

If you had questions at the time your TA is the best person to have asked.

They don't publicize the groups and you can't even ask the cruise line. On one of my cruises I chatted with a nice couple during lunch. They told me they had been on a cruise that sailed with a very large group of people who were part of a motorcycle club. They said the group was generally loud especially around the pool & hot tubs, etc.... Since that bothered them they tried finding out for their next cruise if there would be any large groups and were told the cruise line would never release that type of info.

  6. We are flying into FLL tomorrow evening, and I was able to find a one-day rental from Hertz for $33, including taxes. There is a Hertz drop off location on 2nd Street in Miami that runs a shuttle every half hour to the Port of Miami. Florida has a law that rental car companies cannot charge one-way fees for pick up and drop off within the state. With this, I think the flexibility of driving yourself, as well as the time savings of not having to wait for the hotel shuttle is worth it.

    That is a good tip!

  7. Take a deep breath! :-) I was on the Breakaway for Mother's day. Yes, their website and making reservations can be frustrating. I had to try several times and it finally worked! Yes, I don't know what I want for dinner tonight but I had to think about it weeks in advance for the cruise. Most everything generally works out in the end! And when you get onboard you can still fix or change things - generally with little effort! Do that shortly after you board. Many people didn't make reservations for shows and specialty restaurants before they got on the ship- but I didn't hear or see any major problems. For example--there were also stand by lines for ROA and Burn the Floor- most if not all got in.

Read RCCL boards on Quantum of the Seas! You would be pulling out your hair now!!!! They changed to dynamic dining like freestyle- so lots of problems at the moment and the ship doesn't start sailing to the fall! And then everyone wants to book the shows and apparently only some have been rolled out yet! After you read those boards you will think you have no stress!

I had a very enjoyable cruise!! Good service and entertainment! Didn't have to cook, make a bed or clean! :-) I am pretty picky but nothing is perfect in life so I didn't think my cruise would be perfect either.

  8. Some of the best ways to see islands are renting a car (shuttles pick you up at pier- make reservations ahead of time), private excursions and ship excursions. Go to POA and Hawaii boards for help as you research.

I had a great cruise on POA and loved exploring the islands.

  9. I have been on both. Both during inaugural season. I actually wish the great things on each ship could be combined to make a nearly perfect vacation :-)

Overall I like the service, food & Itineraries better on Celebrity. But overall the activities & entertainment are much better on NCL. I still prefer having the same table for dinner every night. I was on Celebrity twice during Thanksgiving and even with kids sailing there were not a huge number of kids running around. So Celebrity is a more relaxing experience.

I have never had a bad cruise experience-thankfully! I simply do research to see what each ship offers before I book a vacation.

  10. I am told it is the captain's decision. Probably because of costs and /or fines involved. Some wait and some don't. You would think with three days in one port you would be able to make it back on time!

On my 5/11/14 Breakaway sailing several people had to get home on their own. They missed the ship. One woman almost got lucky- the tugboat helped her but they had to abort the attempt.

  11. This will be our first time cruising Norwegian, we joined their Latitudes program. My question, will there be any perks onboard for first time Norwegian cruisers with their Latitudes program? On RCCL we get a coupon book in our stateroom. Thanks

You will get latitudes benefits after your completion of your first cruise. I believe all cruise lines are like that.

  12. One side of the menu changes every night for dinner. It is nowhere near the same each night. There are several/many posted here on CC if you would like to review the differences. Now, if by the same you mean there was always a fish choice and chicken and beef, then that's true. But nowhere near the same food.

Before you posted this did you actually read my comments and see that I was just on the Breakaway from my signature ?!?? There was NO side of the menu that stayed the same every night on my cruise!!! Other cruises that I have been on yes- but not this past NCL one!!! On the left side were appetizers, salads & soups and the right side entrees and desserts.

  13. The right side of the menu stays the same every evening and the left side of the menu get changed every day. But it still needs a change now - they have had more or less the same menus in the MDR for years. I read somewhere that they were trying out new MDR menus on the Breakaway and the Getaway now, and that it was going to be fleetwide after the "trial period". I hope that is true..... :)

I was just on the Breakaway! I did not hear about this trial period until seeing posts over the last few days. My post you commented on is accurate! There was NO right side "staying the same." "There was NO left side "changing." Lots of same or similar choices and just some new ones put in. All sailing with me did not like the menus. Needed more variety!

  14. Hello!

DH and I are looking to take the Dawn to Bermuda next May, any difference in port or starboard side? We've never been and didn't know how the pier was set up, just looking to avoid being able to have a conversation with a neighboring ship's balcony cabin :)

Do the ships dock side to side or nose to tail?

    TIA!

Makes no difference! Can never apparently tell how the captain will dock the ship in Bermuda until he does so.

Celebrity was behind us in the dockyard not parallel like some ships are docked in the Caribbean.

  15. Looking for thoughts...

Have previously cruised 15 times and are now considering Breakaway to Bermuda. Our concern is sailing to a port...staying there...sailing home. That's a very different trip than hitting a few ports and we're not sure it will still feel like a cruise, maybe more like a beach vacation.

Anyone do this trip with the same reservation and then either get pleasantly surprised or completely disapointed?

Would love to hear your experiences/thoughts.

Everybody has their own idea of a great vacation.

Was on the Breakaway to Bermuda a few weeks ago. Enjoyed the ship and the Island! This was my 3rd time to Bermuda.

A few people got to extend their time in Bermuda even more since they missed the ship. I guess that can tell you that for a small island you have plenty to do and see over 3 days!

  16. So if the ticket books are not available at the dockyard you will still need a token on the bus from ths dockyard to Hamilton..correct....is this on the way to Horseshoe. Getting a bit confused but will have to print and look at the maps

No need to get confused! :-)

If you are only going to Horseshoe Bay and back that day- simply get 2 tokens per person. The tokens can be purchased in the building right after you get off the ship. There was a lovely lady behind the transportation desk that answered questions as we were purchasing the tokens or passes ( 1/2/3 day passes are available if you are exploring the island/ going multiple places over the course of the stay in Bermuda).

  17. Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what NCL does to celebrate thanksgiving on their ships.

I have just booked the Getaway and will be onboard during this holiday.

    Thanks in advance

Nothing huge! I have been on a bunch of Thanksgiving cruises. They do have a turkey dinner in addition to all the other MDR choices. By the buffet they usually have a sign and some carvings to decorate the buffet. And maybe a sign by Guest Services. I enjoy sailing in November.
