  1. I agree that you do not need to purchase FTTF for ships leaving out of San Juan. Since the ship leaves so late 10PM, embarkation is spread out over many more hours, so the lines are usually shorter. There are no tender ports on the eastern Caribbean run. I guess if you have 12 carryons including 6 cases of water you might want to go straight to your cabin.

The only real advantage is the guest services line.......just do not go during peak hours.

Great, thank you. This definitely helps with our decision making and with the way our first day is planned it looks like we would not really get an advantage from it and will still get plenty of time in Old San Juan. Well, as long as there is no need for a guest services visit, but I feel pretty confident in not needing it :)

  2. I have a Valor/Liberty/San Juan/Whatever you call it now cruise in a few months and I thought I heard for this itinerary it is not really worth it?

I guess I understand about the guest services part, but on my only previous Carnival cruise back in January I only had to go there 2 times and there was never a line. I was the only one there. Was I lucky???

Also someone made a good point about being able to drop off their bags sooner to go explore San Juan. This makes sense too, but I guess if we don't check out of our hotel until around noon and go through the check in and grab something to eat on the ship I'm sure we should be pretty close to where we could at least get into our room.

I don't know, I just didn't want to start a new topic, but just trying to think of the pluses and minuses of FTTF on the Southern Caribbean cruise as it is still available for me. I read a lot preaching it's a waste for this trip, but also see a lot of good points in this thread how it could be useful. I don't know, I guess I'll rethink it and just decide if we feel we need it or not :)

  3. This was several years ago and in the state of Ohio so don't quote me if this is still true, but if you went and got a state ID/ID card made it CANCELLED OUT your regular drivers license! You had to retake all tests and pay the various fees to get it back. Again, might not still be the case and might not be so in every state, but something to keep a look out for.

I have zero clue if the paper one will work though, so I guess I'm useless :o

  4. Go for it! Do something for sure! I have only been once and went to Xunantunich ruins through Carnival. From others on the ship I heard both the cave tubing and snorkeling were awesome!

Here is the video from the Carnival excursion to Xunantunich and it is FAR FROM a replica of some ruins! It is the real deal! Huge and impressive!

In fact, I feel horrible I did not get enough shots from up on top, but I was having a slight panic attack being that high up :o It is an all day adventure, but definitely a once in a lifetime type thing, plus you will get back to the ship on time if you go through Carnival, which we did of course and the only way I recommend going to Xunantunich. If you are into wildlife keep an eye out for the different birds, the monkeys, and the best part for me was seeing the wild tarantulas! Plus the lunch was great, and I can go on but reviews are all over for this particular ruin.

So long story short, if you go with cave tubing, snorkeling, or the Xunantunich ruins in particular, you will most likely have an incredible time and something you will always remember! I know these 3 activities were all at the top of my list so next time it will be cave tubing or snorkeling for me!

Enjoy, but definitely do something there! :D

  5. Reposting my Nativeway video from earlier in the year. I have to state again, not sure if we were lucky or what, but there were only the 2 of us on the tour other than stingray city so they took us wherever we wanted to go! And as you can see from the brief boat shots it was not crowded at all. Also, I think they are the owners, not sure, but Sharron and Eldon both took us around everywhere individually and were fun and as awesome as can be!

  6. I've found that the pictures taken with a Samsung Galaxy phone are excellent. It also has the editing feature. You can connect to Wifi or use your carrier for transfer directly to FB, Twitter, email, etc.

I have to agree with this and go back to giving higher props to smart phones since I have played with the Photoshop Express app some more. Very cool once you figure out which settings produce the best results, and best of all free! Well, a couple of the filters cost, but the ones you need for enhancing color and sharpness are all right there and included. With the megapixels in phone cameras these days this little app (and FREE!) does wonders on the fly. Once you get used to it, it is very quick to do a decent Photoshop touch up job pretty much instantly, then as topguy mentioned just a couple more button presses and you can share with the world.

The only con I see with it is it does take a couple extra minutes to make adjustments to the photo so you aren't just shooting then uploading to Facebook or emailing the pic instantly. However, it's much faster than waiting to get back to your computer, putting the pictures into your computer, opening Photoshop, then editing from there, then sharing.

I would definitely suggest at least giving it a try. If you have the latest and greatest camera and all the editing time in the world it won't compare to that, but if you want pretty high quality shots where you only have to carry something (phone) you bring with you anyway, it's definitely the way to go!

  7. This is a big issue for my daughter, Does Carnival(Splendor) leave a chocolate mint on the pillow?

I am not concerned as to the "why" this is a big issue, I am just gathering the popcorn because I am dying to know what will happen if they do or don't leave the chocolate and if the mint or not part matters??? Will it be just a short pouting spurt, or will it be enough to cancel an entire cruise for say 8 to 10 people because of the result? Enough to switch cruise lines maybe? Like "how" big of an issue can this blow up to be? Inquiring minds want to know the results of said outcome and if you have video results that would be even better! :D

And no, I'm not knocking people for issues, I have plenty of my own, lol. I'm just dying to know how "big" of an issue this can get blown into. I am very curious how the story ends and it's a rainy day on a holiday so I have nothing better to do.

  8. I was just curious about something as when I renewed my passport a couple years ago I picked up a card just for the heck of it. I am going to bring my regular passport anyway, but I was curious if someone could use just a passport card or DL and birth certificate for the southern caribbean

cruise out of San Juan? I'm guessing it's OK as it is a U.S. territory, but this topic just had me wondering.

  9. I've got nothing on the tenders, but I just thought I was the only one that randomly did the Alicia Keys thing. For instance, at work the other day I put some popcorn in the microwave, the stupid auto button must not have been working so it got all burnt and stunk up the whole building! There was absolutely nothing I could do other than start singing............

    THIS POPCORNS ON FIIIIIIIYYYAAAAAAAAAAA

  10. Seems like this is a thread just for people to show off they have money to throw around.

Hmmm, quite possible, but could also be a money hungry cabin steward that was up late trying to find a way to make more money and these are the ships "he" will be working the next several months???

Good try to the OP cabin steward in disguise, so here is your tip: when driving through the country side in the fall at 1:02 a.m. please use your bright headlights, this could save your life :D

Now can someone pass me the popcorn please?

  11. We loved having it delivered to our rooms this last cruise. (One case in each of our three rooms). For us, it was so worth not having to lug those cases around. For us, it is like having our house cleaned....sure we could do it cheaper ourselves, but are willing to pay to not HAVE to do it!!

As far as taking it places...you can take it everywhere, including off the ship into ports! Happy sailing!

Feel the same way and did the same thing. Made a world of difference for us not to have to carry the case. Ut oh, gotta add in a "touchy subject", wouldn't be me without doing it :D but the best part about taking them off the ship is they are just as easy to bring back aboard, um, still "looking" like water

  12. Hello,

My first cruise was on the Legend back in January, we got an extended balcony and loved it! I have been looking at the southern caribbean cruise on the Valor for a long time because of the itinerary and I finally booked it. I was looking at lots of pictures and videos and it looks like all the balconies in mid-ship are just "standard" without the extended option, so of course they look a little cramped to me even with just the little extra space we had on the Legend. So I just went ahead and got us an ocean view because it just didn't seem worth it. Just checking if I missed something in the mid-ship section that might have an extended type balcony like on the Legend? Or anywhere else for that matter but NOT the aft? I also saw the videos of the Ocean Suites, and while the balcony is definitely longer, it still looked like it had that standard depth and not what we were looking for. Basically, is there anything at all on the Valor with an extended balcony in the mid-ship area??? Or any recommendations other than aft?

I don't know, I guess to us, as much as we are now spoiled with balconies, that short depth just doesn't seem worth it. And gosh, I remember when first booking the Legend thinking that extra foot of depth was probably nothing, but gosh it sure spoiled us!

    Thanks!

  13. Cruisinbabs, I am with you, LOL!

LOL, I plead this as well, but I also have a tip of something I found out the hard way :o

I am a type that is a freak and is constantly checking my account in the room or at the kiosks. My other half is not that type and did not check until the end of the cruise. Sooooooo, I'm scarfing down ALL these mini bottles from the fridge, of course they get restocked, and of course I have more, they get restocked again, repeat process, I'm constantly checking my account, nothing there, my 1st time cruiser self is thinking I pulled one over on Carnival and/or the steward was being nice to me............

So it was day 5 or 6 of a 7 day cruise when I had enough of a clear mind to think something must be wrong. So I called guest services from the room phone.................... OUCH! They were getting calculated on a daily basis alright! Not to my S&S, but my partners! Hahahaha, the good news and other tip I found out is, since cruises are so fun and make people happy, if you break some bad news to your spouse while still on the cruise things usually go over much better than if you were at home with 20 inches of snow on the ground! :D

  14. Hi, I am not sure but I am guessing the one you received from you pvp is the same as the "e-gift cards" someone can buy from the carnival gift card website. If so, I received a couple last year as gifts from family members and I used them for EVERYTHING. Before even sailing I put some towards excursions, had a couple "goodies" delivered to the room before we got there, and then put the rest on my sign and sail card. If you try to book excursions online or purchase things for your room before you sail, there should be a spot to put the number in on the e-gift card. If you go over what the gift card was for I remember there was a chance to pay the balance with a regular credit card.

So I guess if you blow it all online before you even get on the ship there is no reason to go to GS. I just had to because I had some left over.
