From what I've seen, its the same excursions offered by the other lines. Nothing special.

That may be but it is still something I know nothing about.  What company do the cruise ships contract with the run the hop-on hop-off?  What time does it start?  Those are my biggest two questions I hope to find answers to soon.  I'll have to start searching and see if I can locate any information.

Finally, posted online-I have said it before, it is too bad Virgin is doing a horible job communicating with those of us that have already booked- months, years ago...  I should not have to be scouting out the website to find information: https://www.virginvoyages.com/shore-excursions

Thank you for the link.  I was trying to locate information yesterday on VV's website but could not find it.

Oh my gosh.  I have to wait longer for my port.  It's not up yet. 😄

  3. A friend and I are going on a cruise in August out of Miami.  It's her first cruise and only my second.  Neither of us have been in Miami before.  We are flying down the day before our cruise, hoping to check-in to a hotel and explore.  I've been doing a lot of reading here and on TripAdvisor trying to figure out which hotel to book and what activities we can do that afternoon and event.  I was thinking it would be better/easier to stay near the cruise port.

Would you recommend we stay downtown Miami, Brickell area, or south to mid Miami Beach?  We won't be renting a car.  Most likely taking Uber.

The access key screen is not tied to a cruise. If you look at the image, it says "book a voyage", so the offer is for a future booking

Hmm, ok thanks.  I was logged into my account when I did this so I thought it assigned it to my upcoming cruise.  When I logged in again, it still shows it under my account but yes, I see now where it says book a voyage.  lol  Ah well.

Access Key Validation is for PROMO CODES.

I used EATSLEEPCRUISELOOT which I believe entitles me to OBC.

If they called it PROMO CODE or COUPON, everyone would be scouring the internet searching for codes.

Thanks!  I gave it a try and it says "You've got Booty".   The screen that popped up on the right seems to indicate $200.  I took a screenshot.  If I get it, great.  If not, oh well.  I'll find out in August.

This was very helpful. I am going to do a walking tour of the nearby town and then hang out by the pool in your video.  Thanks for posting.

Are you doing the walking tour on your own or through an excursion/company?

  7. A friend & I can choose either Dominican Daze (Puerto Plata) or Mayan Sol (Costa Maya) and we are trying to figure out which would be best to visit.  There is also a slim chance we may be able to take the last Riviera Maya (Cozumel) in June.  We have not been to any of these places before.  Is one safer than the either?  Cozumel seems to show more to do.  Which would you recommend?

  8. Don't use Photobucket.com. They now give very little (none?) access on sites like Cruise Critic without buying a sharing plan. All viewers see is this

I use Shutterfly.com instead. Very easy to right-click copy (or Ctrl-C) from the Shutterfly site and then right-click paste (or Ctrl-V) into your Cruise Critic post.

Thank you Bob. After seeing blurb from Photobucket I googed and discovered Photobucket has changed since I last used them. I have a Shutterfly account already so I'll give this a try right now.

Wow - this worked very easily! Will Shutterfly let the photos stay/be linked here as long as I have them in a Shutterfly album? Should I be reducing the quality of the photos before copying in the future? I take the majority of my photos with a camera so they range from 2 - 8 MB in size.

  9. Our son is 14 and loves sushi and many seafood items. I attribute it to his Italian & Irish heritage from his grandparents. I rarely eat sushi and do not eat anything seafood beyond fish. I wanted to try conch fritters on the islands (probably only because they are deep-fried) but never did get to.

I kept trying to find more information on the sushi class before we sailed but it's slim pickings out there. So I thought this might help others.

We did not book this in advance through the cruise planner. We did not know when he would be free for a class so we played it by ear. By Friday night we knew there would be time for our son to take the Saturday morning class. I had meant to slip out during dinner to make reservations but forgot. The class was at 10 AM Saturday morning so my husband and son went to Izumi to see if our son could still sign up, while I went to find a lounge chair in the sun and read.

It was no problem at all. They had one full table and a second table with only 3 people. My husband stayed with him the entire time and took many photos. Our son had a blast. The class runs 1 1/2 hours and he came out stuffed. There was seriously so much sushi made he could not finish it all. What is not eaten gets left behind. He was not allowed to bring it back to the room.

By the way, the class cost is a little cheaper if you book ahead on the cruise planner. In Canadian funds it was $38, which converts to $29 US more-or-less. The price never changed, even when it was "on sale". On the Allure it cost $33 US, which converts to roughly $43.50. About $5 cheaper Canadian funds.

Enjoy the photos! Huh... all right. What am I doing wrong? When I tried to upload 5 photos it gave an error message about the security token. When I try one, no matter which one, it keeps failing.

    How do I add photos?

  10. Can you tell me if they also have Sheridan's Berries?

I wish! No, they didn't. I also asked at every port as well. I would have come home with 2 or 4 bottles of that.

But I did find Shipwreck Coconut Rum Cream on St. Kitts. We have never had that before and it's so good! Drink it straight (chilled best) or add to hot chocolate. The bottles cost $25 for 750 ml. We brought 4 bottles home.

  11. I've read this before but I don't understand why having the bed by the balcony makes it "a lot cooler." It's only few feet.

We just came home from our first cruise last week. Two balconies side-by-side (but not connecting).

My husband & I had 7214 (bed by balcony) and my Dad and our son had 7216 (couch by the balcony, bed was by the closet/bathroom).

I LOVED the bed by the balcony! The view was closer/better than my Dad's bed. Plus, even with the balcony door shut, I could hear the water. We rarely closed the drapes. Luckily our port side never faced the dock. I had expected the Allure to back in at least one port but she never did. :)

  12. My cruise ended last week (Sunday, April 22) and I have not had time to write a trip report yet.

However, I have read lots of posts saying Sheridan's is not available anymore. As I was pouring myself a shot glass full a few minutes ago, it reminded me to quickly come here and post YES, it was on our sailing!

Bottles were being sold 2 for $40 and the bottles are 1L sizes.

Even though we can purchase Sheridan's at home (being Canadians), we bought two as the deal was just too good! Even with conversion rates it was better to purchase 2L at $40 US then purchase 750 ML for $35 CAN.

Hope this helps someone going on the Allure soon.
