  1. Upsells start to work about two weeks out, and even then not always.

I called every day for the two weeks leading up to our Gem cruise and it wasn't until 4pm on the Friday, about an hour before the upsell folks close for the weekend, before we left on Monday that I was able to get a bump from an inside to a balcony for a few hundred bucks.

A month out might be a little early, wait two more weeks and dont give up if you dont get anything the first 9 tries, you never know what might happen.

  2. We are interested in getting a Vibe pass but not sure about how getting an early boarding number works for non Haven/Suite/Casino/VIP folks.

Every other time I have been there, including once we showed up for the Gem before the terminal was even letting people in, they just put you in a line and it's the luck of the draw depending on what check in person takes you at the counter, you could end up with 6, you could end up with 26. Is there any method to get an earlier boarding number so we can quickly get to the guest services desk before the Vibe sells out?

  3. Just off the Gem a couple of weeks ago, two of us and one 4 1/2 year old in a standard balcony room.

He had a pull out couch much bigger than his little body to spread out on every night and we our our bed, when everyone is laying down no one is cramped. When we were awake and the bed was put away two people could easily sit on the couch and a third pull up a chair for that little table thing, or if someone was out on the balcony the inside space was more than enough, and that includes when I would go up to the buffet and bring down food for the three of us to eat in the room.

If you are just using your room as a base of operations, a place for naps, sleeping, meals out on the balcony, or breakfast, there is no reason to spend that much more money for a little more room. If you want your room to be a huge part of the cruise and plan on spending a whole lot of time in there, go for it, otherwise there is no need.

  4. Chair Hogs - Galore!! I was up at 7:15 on sea day 4 and some lady reserved 18 chairs!!!! OMG- she even put her crap at a table too. I was sickened by it. I had 2 and sat my butt there until 3pm. My husband went up there on return sea days and she was doing it again!! I don't know what to say except it is tolerated and ignored. They definitely need a new process.

No one tossed her stuff on the ground or gave the towels back to the attendant?

I know some folks don't like confrontations, but all that goes out the window when it's time to get a seat by the pool. I give people their 60 minutes as outlined by the rules of the ship, but once that time expires the seat is mine and they can bugger off if they come back and say I took their seat.

  5. Go directly to Guest Services as soon as you get on board. Vibe tends to sell out fast, so you really want to try and be in the first boarding groups.

Does getting to the NY terminal early mean you get in an earlier boarding group or do the Haven and Casino and others get the lowest numbers? We showed up one year before we could even get through security and didn't get a 1 or a 2, we were just put in a line and got whatever the woman had at her check in counter.

  6. My family and I are staying in the Family Oceanview State Room 5172 on the October 4th sailing. Does anyone know what is above our stateroom? I know there are no other staterooms above until the 8th deck. Just curious how noisy it's going to be. Thank you.

If you happen to still be around on this board, how was the room?

  7. Okay here's my serious tip..

At the crepe station at the buffet ask for a one with brown sugar and butter.

Nothing else, just brown sugar and butter. It's pretty much the secret menu when it comes to the crepes. There will be all sorts of goop and glop that people will be loading up on their crepes but you dont need any of that. He'll reach behind the station and grab two little things of butter and then reach somewhere else and get a few packets of brown sugar. You'll then have on your plate the most fresh and delicious tasting crepe on the ship. It wont be over powered by all the jellies and jams and creams that everyone else is getting, instead you'll have this deliciously sweet dessert that you'll keep going back for.

The only reason I know it exists is because two cruises ago I happened to be standing there when a crew member ordered one. Since that night I have asked for nothing else.
