Some interesting mid century modern design cues in the public rooms, not as much in the cabins.

I find it interesting that many of the designs that were common at the start of my career in the early 1980s are now coming back some 40 years later. Personally I'm quite fond of Art Deco and Art Nouveau, that being said I'm not sure there are many craftsmen/women who are capable of doing that quality of work.

There is SOLAS considerations also. I do think the 1960 Rotterdam's paint scheme would be nice change.

The early carnival ships had a Odeon cinema style that looks very classy now

Don't be so quick to dismiss "Mid-century Modern" I am a professional woodworker and the shop I work at specializes in multi million dollar homes. We have done many expensive projects recently with Mid-century Modern design cues. These details may seem trivial but they are time consuming and expensive. They also involve vast quantities of  real wood (Sometimes very expensive wood).

Previously I worked in a shop that specialized in millwork for cruise ships, there was vast quantities of plastic laminate. And yes during that time we did refit work on almost every "Dam" ship.

i think they should do the mid century modern. The SS Rotterdam hotel looks incredible and that color scheme would be beautiful on a Pinnacle class ship.

  3. I would love to see the ship superficially done up with the grey-green orange and white paint scheme of the rotterdam. maybe go hard on the mid century modern..

Thanks for sharing the idea with us.

I'm not familiar with this hull design - would she fit down the Chesapeake Bay?  (Carnival Pride, Spirit Class is our Baltimore ship currently).

Your welcome and from Cruise Industry New's, a rep from Fincantieri stated the hull design can be scaled between 60 to 150 thousand tons so i presume some version of it could fit.

  5. Hi all,

Though I would share this with you :classic_cool::classic_wink:

An artist friend of mine and I were talking about cruise ship characteristics and I was able to get him to draw up a design of ship based on the MSC Seaview and Virgin Voyages Scarlett Lady for Carnival.

The details of this are that it is the Fincantieri Project Millie hull, but made for Carnival to act as the eventual replacement to the Fantasy and Spirit class ships in the mid to late 2020's. Still a modestly sized ship coming in with similar dimensions to the Destiny Sunshine but with Mardi Gras features and interior designs style.

    Enjoy!

    Hi!

Interesting first glimpses - hope the cruise fares come out soon! But does anyone else feel an Ikea/ Scandinavian vibe in all these cabins? I would expect this look more in a new NCL ship - I understand the ambiance they are going for - but I expected it to be Fun & Refined with a touch of British flair, not just a Union Jack or an expand Virgin Club lounge area - We are very much looking forward to cruising with Virgin Voyages, however I think we're leaning more towards the suites!  😉

The designers are European and Branson is British. That being said there is defnitly a niche market in the US that this appeals to.
