  1. does the explorer of the seas offer smoked salmon/lox at their buffet? ok 2 questions! do they have eggs benefict at breakfast? either at the buffet or the dining room?

    thank you!

PS I only ask about the lox since Carnival didnt have it, so I was a bit disappointed. :)

I don't know about the Explorer but the Windjammer on Navigator did last week. :)

  2. Navigator 9320

    Ship - Navigator

    Deck - 9

    Stateroom # - 9320

    Stateroom Category – D1

    Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – We heard talking in the hallway a few times after 10 PM, but it wasn't a big deal. On the first day, our next door neighbors argued and carried it out to their balcony. We were sitting on ours watching sailaway. Pretty sad...Never heard another peep after that.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Great view on the center hump. Prime spot.

    Balcony Size? Normal

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - n/a

Any specific problems with this cabin? - Toilet stopped flushing on the fourth day but was promptly fixed.

Any other comments? - Nice room but I look forward to my cruise on her again after the refurbish. Worn carpets and old TV's need to go.

  3. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with MTD. We were also on your cruise and had the 5:30 dinner time. We got lucky and had a great table for 4 at the rail on deck 4 and also a wonderful waiter, Darvy. He was just awesome. :D

On our cruise last year on Mariner, we were stuck in a side room away from the main area and hated it so much, after 2 nights, we ate in the Windjammer. I guess it's just the luck of the draw. :(

  4. OP: I see you are in the Houston area, I'm assuming that is where you family member needs to be as well.

I checked for some flights from Roatan to IAH - around $600 and the EARLIEST she could arrive is 10:45 PM at IAH, with two layovers. Flight leaves Roatan at 10:58 to San Pedro, then on to Mexico City before heading to Houston. I'm rather good with airfare and travel arrangements. If I could be of assistance with pricing / finding flights please let me know and I'll take that load off of you.

Thank you for offering to help. I will pass along this info to her.

    Thank you very much. :)

  6. To a previous question, we had a balcony forward port and the rooms were nice but a little worn, needing carpeting and new TV's but we were comfortable for 14 days. Although we did not have the drink package, I believe frozen drinks are included. They had a Johnny Rockets but they do NOT service breakfast on our sailing like Oasis.

Regarding entertainment, since ours was a transatlantic, I think entertainment may be different but did not see any group resembling "Jersey Boys". We had almost nightly shows that were mostly great and saw most of them but like I said not sure if shows were different since we were coming from Spain.

We did not eat at Chops or Portofino for the first time since cruising so I can't recommend a dish however on previous cruises, the food was great. If they have the red velvet cake, GET iT!! Regarding food in general, I found that the Windjammer food was MUCH improved over previous cruises. The coffee was much better and they did not have that dreadful coffee whitener that I hate, they had cream for the coffee which is important to me. The variety for dinner was excellent, breakfast was pretty much the same every day, lunch was good. The dining room food was mostly excellent and I can't imagine anyone not finding something they like.

Regarding the staff, they were outstanding. Our stateroom attendant was fine just not the same exceptional attendant that we usually get, just the luck of the draw I guess. Nothing terrible just not outstanding like on other cruises we did. I did ask about the staff being all new since in a new port and a bartender told me that no, they do not change out staff. They do acquire new employees but as far as a whole new staff he said it would be impossible to operate smoothly if everyone was new and not used to the system. Hope this helps!

    Thanks! :D

  7. Just off Navigator this morning, a glorious 14 day TA from Barcelona, Spain. We had a great crossing, a little rough for a few days but Captain handled it well. Ship is in great shape, needing a little facelift soon to come in January, 2014. She is beautiful despite a little worn carpet and older TV's. We had a great time and would be happy to try to answer any questions.

So glad you had a great cruise! Since we'll be boarding her next sunday, I have a few questions.

I read somewhere there was a singing group on the ship that sounded just like the "Jersey Boys." Is that true? :D

We have reservations at Chops Grill and Portafino. Did you eat at either one of these speciality restaurants? Is there any dish that you would recommend?

Will there be a whole new staff of employees on the ship now that she's based in Galveston? Just curious. I heard from someone else that this crew was outstanding and it would be great if they were staying on the ship. :D

    Thanks!

  8. Not on Navigator out of Galveston, but we were on her last two Med cruises a few weeks ago. The Navigator was wonderful! We have never come across such a fabulous crew. Competent, cheerful, and so warm-hearted. This was everyone from the waiters who served us at dinner, to the hostesses at the Diamond happy hour, to the stewards who looked after the cabins. We were so impressed with the Navigator. She's a happy ship.

VERY happy to hear that! We'll be boarding her next sunday!!! We were on the Mariner last december. :D
