  1. We had beautiful weather in May 17 when we took the ferry from Skagway to Haines for a rafting excursion thru the Eagle preserve (didn’t see any!) but the scenery from the ferry was just gorgeous. I enjoyed it a lot.

  2. What about taking the ferry to Haines and visiting the Kroschel Wildlife Refuge?  It gets amazing reviews!  That’s what we’re doing this June as we’ve been  to Skagway a few times before and have done the WPR.

  3. We were there in late February.  I enjoyed it a lot. No one was hassling you to buy things, get hair braided, etc.  The pool was big and beautiful. Beach area nice too.  Everything was clean. Yes, food and drinks are pretty pricey (to me) but we went back to the ship for lunch and returned in the afternoon for time at the beach. Going back again in November and have no plans to rent a cabana, they seem to be way overpriced.....but that’s just me.

  4. We did the Tundra Wilderness Tour in late May 2017.  IIRC, we had to pay a bit extra to upgrade from The Natural History but felt it was well worth it.  It was a long day but didn’t feel like it was too long   We did get to see some moose, sheep and lots of other wildlife. The boxed lunch they included had a lot of food in it.  One disappointment (which we knew of in advance) was that many of the free tours as well as the husky demonstrations had not started yet at the visitor center when we returned from the tour, as it was too early in the season.

  5. I’ve sailed with NCL  twice since this began, have another cruise booked 60 days out and another 200. Have never received an offer to upgrade. Was sure hoping to get to bid on Haven for our Alaska cruise in 60 days. They’re not sold out.  😔  oh well.  We’ll be happy with our mid ship mini.

  6. I also did this excursion.  So while we did have a great time,  IMO the best part of it was the ferry to Haines. Just gorgeous scenery. It was late May.  River we rafted on was a bit low and we may have seen 1 eagle. No other wildlife. Just hit or miss I guess. We did have an enjoyable time though.

  7. I also recommend Michelle at Island Wings in Ketchikan.  They were prompt to reply to email inquiries, picked us up at the port and dropped us back when finished and the flight was a lot of fun. I’m a chicken but felt safe.  Not sure how long you’re in port, but the lumberjack show is presented several times a day and is just an hour long or so.   No need to book that thru the cruiseline. Book direct online and as mentioned, it’s right there at the port.  Lots of fun. And relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of other things in Alaska.
