  1. I sure hope not' date=' you will likely would do what at that point?....

I can tell you, You will be causing problems and delays for everyone.

You think other are going to just leave their lifeboats and let you take their seats? not going to happen

So when your looking for your lifeboat.........and maybe not be able to get to it or find it and its loaded and ready to go, what then? IT goes

Now your on deck wondering what to do!..................Ahhh......life rafts. Do know how a life raft works?......how to inflate it?.....More important, when to inflate it?.....how to get to it?......

Gee, if your lucky, someone tells you that a life raft inflates in the water.........now your standing at the rail, maybe 50 above the water, wondering if you and your family have the courage to jump and if you will survive the fall and time in the water!

Those Muster stations are designed with the ship in mind. The Officers and crew member have extensive training to get the people at their assigned muster station and to the life boats as fast and safe as possible. Training and experience you do not have. The bottom line, all this design, training and experience is set up to get the people onboard in their boats or rafts as fast as possible and with the most safety.

Follow the instructions given to you and you are maximizing your likely hood of surviving with your family and/or friends.

remember the "spirit of free enterprise"; most casualties were trapped inside. "Costa Concordia" passengers trapped inside. Yes, I have completed a sea survival course wet/dry which entailed launching, inflating, righting (from underneath) and boarding. Also a CPR course. I also know that you do not jump from the rail as you suggest but step off as the water floods. Once in the water keep movement to an absolute minimum thereby reducing the risk of hypothermia through water circulation around the body.

  2. There a many different muster locations. When you get your KTTW card at check in it will indicate where yours is. It may be on deck (deck 4) or in an indoor location.

Indoor location!!!!Anything happens mate and you will find me outside and ready to go.

  3. At 2.10pm on Thursday 7 May Queen Victoria's whistle will mark the time when Lusitania was torpedoed off the Old Head of Kinsale exactly 100 years before. A second whistle will sound at 2.28pm to indicate how little time there was between the first hit and the ship's sinking.

Details and photographs on Cunard's page here

I was a passenger on board QE2 on oct 21, 2005. I had done my homework and found that we would be passing over the site of the battle of trafalgar on that date. I had a small wreath made up and asked if it would be o.k. to commemorate the occasion. All I had in reply was blank stares and shoulder shrugging. At the appointed place and time I commemorated the action which undoubtedly saved G.B. from being taken. I also, in Royal Navy tradition, upended a bottle of Navy Rum with the call "Up Spirits". If it is so important to remember Lusitania now, after 100years, why couldnt Cunard remember the courage and sacrifice shown on trafalgar 200, and at least sounded the ship's whistle.

  4. Travelling on Adonia Mid july. Looking fwd to having my photo taken by on board 'snaps'. My best tally so far was on oriana last year and managed to get 10 snaps of me on the board. The best one was just after dinner when all guests on the table decided to swap partners (just for the snaps you understand). The looks on the faces of passengers in the photo hall was a treat to see. Don't be too hard on the on board photographers. They are doing their job and they get commission for every snap displayed, after all, each photo displayed is a potential sale.

Whats the betting that 'mr.grumpy' chirps in with "I give on board photographers a miss and avoid them like the plague". Hells teeth; you are on holiday so enjoy yourself

  5. Sounds like harmless fun. Better than being on a floating nursing home full of coffin dodgers who queue jump and rush into lifts before those inside can get out!

Getting old is a privilege which only a few of us are granted

  7. If staying the night before we particularly like DeVere New place which is about a 25 min drive outside S'ton. It is £199 for D/B&B. We book a taxi as part of the package for 11.30 and it takes us to the drop off point. On return we ring the cab firm and they txt back the colour, make and Reg. The driver txt's us when he is there - usually within 5 mins and takes us back to the hotel. It's a nice start to our holiday. We have used them for much longer cruises in the past and they have not charged extra for the parking as some of the other hotels do.

You didn't mention the excellent quality of the meals or the free coffee and tea in the lounges.

  8. Will soon be booking my 14 days P&O parking at Southampton Cruise Terminal using CPS (Cruise & Passenger Services) @ £152.

I like the idea of using CPS as whilst its probably the dearest parking I'm sure its also the most convenient, which is important to us. But are there any other options I should be considering?

    Thanks:)

Used then once and found them to be very expensive and on the way home ay end of cruise, I found that the car on board computer was trying to reset after all the parking attendant had inputted. never again. I stay in a comfortable hotel the night before and let a taxi do all the driving. Would urge you to do your sums. My hotel d.b&b and 14 nights parking and taxi transfer to/from cost me £199

  9. Great information. Does anybody know details of where within MOD application for proof of service should be submitted?

    Hi

On your computer search engine enter 'M.O.D. form 1694-Nov 13'. You will be looking for "Subject Access request (SAR) Form. Print off the form, fill it in and send it to the address on the form. Don't forget, when you get your onboard spend I will be in the queue behind you.

  10. To-day 12 -9-14 boat show started, three ship,s in no problem with traffic as most parking for show is park and ride ,r oad work,s still ongoing but still OK dock gate 8 is closed due to boat show, any one using FRED RCI CELEBRITY MSC use dock gate 10 or gate 20 hope this help,s the saint.:D:D

I would like to thank the 'poster' on C.C. for putting me onto New Place Hotel. it was easy to find, the food was superb and the staff were very friendly. The taxi to join, and return from ORIANA was well organised and obviated the need to worry about road works or boat shows:)

  11. About time too!

    Hi All

Just tried to get onboard credit for my military service (23 years) I was told, this afternoon that I would have to apply at least 8 days prior to commencement of 14 day cruise and that I would have to be on the top flight of booking. If I booked on the saverfare then the on board credit would not be paid What I may have gained on the military credit would have been lost in the cruise fare paid at the top of the range.:(

  12. Must be the odd one out, every opportunity we pose, smile, click.

They have a job to do and it takes 2 or 3 seconds to have a photo taken.

Every opportunity we smile, it's part of the cruise. Especially the silly ones getting off the ship.

Only ever bought three by the way.

The people who refuse with a scowl seems to me to take longer to refuse than to smile pose click.

    Happy cruising...:-)

Off to baltic next week. Hair slicked and dentures polished. Let me at that photo board.

  13. G'day, booked a cabin on Aurora next year, right next to reception/Palm Court (F181) Do any Aurora cruisers know if this would be a noisy area, other than line ups at reception counter. i.e. what if any activities are held in Palm Court area?

    Thanks in anticipation.

I had F171 and it was so convenient it was incredible

  14. This has probably been asked before. Apologies.

Do P and O ever let us know who will be the entertainers on board, or after dinner speakers in the case of Adonia. I have never found a link where I can find out.

Go on Hurtigruten and you will have to make your own entertainment. Mind you, you can always look at the magnificent scenery or the northern lights.:D

  15. I am going to St. P on oriana and see that many passengers have booked tours with local tour companies. Having been on Youtube and seen the standard of driving in Russia, If the local tour bus is late ,for whatever reason, will the boat wait for the return of the passengers.

P & O state that the benefit can be applied for 7 days before departure.

it is possible to get up to £125 per person on board spend

  17. It is a Marin Ark pax evacuation system - Aurora had the first installed on a passenger vessel - the advantage is that it can be launched from inside the ship. There is no need to mention specific systems at muster as not everyone will have this muster station and it could confuse people. You slide down a spiral slope directly into a life raft so little instruction is needed beyond removing your shoes as on an aircraft style slide.

What is the capacity of this Marin Ark system. What is the life expectancy of a person in Arctic waters. isn't it better to go quickly.

  18. Does the information change from trip to trip on the same ship?

Cruised on Aurora two months ago and of course attended the muster drill. First thing that struck me was ,like the Korean disaster, we would have to assemble and wait indoors. Secondly, I noticed on the boat deck P/S a chute type

escape system. No mention of this system was made during the muster drill unless it is for crew only.

  19. Not long until our cruise on Azura. Does anybody have any tips on attaching the luggage labels once I have printed them out so they do not get ripped off before they reach our cabin. This is our first ever cruise so I am trying to cover all bases. I have considered laminating them at work (with my own pouches I hasten to add) to make them stronger but if the upgrade fairy calls after we break up I will not be able to laminate the new tags.

Any advice would be gratefully achieved.

I ordered and recieved two days later some super printed label tags together with attachments. order from http://WWW.thanetdirect.com So nice to get such good sevice

  20. Sorry where have you been. I paid less for a suite on Azura in April per night than I did on Aurora for a balcony cabin.... In 2001 that's 13 years.

    Have they gone down.......Yes.

But you can still get a booklet with your labels printed for you as we do every cruise.

I think you have to compare like for like. For starters they are different vessels and I suspect different itineries.

  21. Don't they all do it that way now.

If you want to have it like it was then you may have to pay the price, like it was.

You can buy plastic label holders which are designed for these type of labels. They have them for all the cruise lines so they mut produce them different sizes.

If you have not gone green then you will get a cruise booklet with the labels printed on card in the booklet.

Are you saying then, that because we are now printing our own labels the cruise line has reduced its fares.
