  1. And I bet they cost a lot more than some of the cheap and nasty dinner suits that that we saw on Ventura.

To be fair, though, cropped linen trousers are not acceptable in all the hotels we go to except some Riu Hotels in Playacar, Mexico.

Where do kilts come in this discussion. Would the DRM know the difference between Dress Stuart and everyday Stuart.

  2. I would say be up about an hour ahead of docking time and catch the rest on the way back out in the evening. I was a beautiful misty arrival when I arrived last September aboard Saga Rose. It was even lovelier the fact that we were the only ship there too!

Saga Rose looks just right. Somehow these mammoth boats demean the grandure of the fjord

  3. I really don't get your comment ...... What is the problem with the World Cup!

I am not an "en-ugh-lun" fun, and will be chanting something different. Maybe you should stay home during the World Cup, you have 4 years in wich to plant to stay home!!!

If you are going to reply to a comment, you might at least get your spelling correct:eek:

  4. I hope NOT. The thought of people going around chanting "en-guh-lun" and trying to sing "you'll never walk alone' makes me judder. Its not as if the world cup is a surprise event. These fans have had 4 years in which to book their holidays. Why inflict their support for "en-guh-lun" on others.

  5. We went on the funicular at Bergen in early may last year - we weren't there too early (10/10.30ish) but being early season we didn't have to queue very long at all (about 15 mins). It was sunny and bright but very cold.

Have a lovely cruise - I was blown away by the scenery and the people are lovely and nearly all speak good English.

Agreed, lovely people and don't forget to use the Norwegion phrases that you have learnt like hello, thank you, please and goodbye all said in Norwegian. A bit of effort goes a long way:)

  6. Yes, we've been in the back! Squish city!

There's nothing wrong with saying "no more, please!" and it's probably a lot safer than saying "no more...we're about to reach the weight limit!" You'd probably get a knuckle sandwich served from someone who'd take that comment personally

Why not make a disgusting noise and say "I think I'm going to be sick". That should ensure you have an elevator all to yourself.

  7. I have never heard of that, what is it, I must do it ?:D

I am glad we don't have to rely on doing trips and there is things to see and do in the ports, the cable car in Bergen looks like fun

I just can't wait to see the stunning scenery, I imagine it to be like Kotor which up to now is probably the best I have seen.

    Thanks

    Janis

    Hi Janis

Been to kotor and been to Norway. Kotor has a fjord, sun and sewage smells.

First time I went to Norway, at the end of a two week cruise we were all saying "oh no, not another stunning view to look at". Honestly, Norway has the most stunning scenery and I cant wait to go back at end of May.

  8. I have looked at the Troll road and it looks great, trouble is none of the trips offered from the ship appeal to me, maybe we might have to do our own thing

I keep searching for the clips someone put on of their P and O cruise, it looked great, it will give me some ideas if I can find it

    Thanks

    Janis

    Hi Ruby

Wherever you go in Norway don't forget to build your cairne. This will ensure your safe return to Norway.:D

  9. In his defense, but not to that extreme, some people do bring WAY too much stuff onboard with them. Or there are also the people seated at the back of the airplane that put their stuff in the forward overheads so they don't have to lug it all the way back, leaving no room for forward passengers to put their carry ins except for the back of the aircraft!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

What a good idea. After all; there are no rules stating that you have to put your carry on luggage in the locker above your seat.:D

  10. We are going on a mini cruise to Bruges. There are 6 of us and the excursion price for all of us is expensive. Is there a shuttle bus? Or can any body recommend a taxi company that is very good.

    Many thanks

    Kerry

Went into Bruges last year by taxi. Usually a taxi rank at bottom of gangway or nearby. Fare very reasonable IF SHARING. Can arrange with taxi driver to pick you up at days end. Boat might frown on you if you try and arrange taxi while onboard; best to nip down gangway and sort out taxi on shore.

  11. My Wife and I are booked on Ventura N408A from Venice on the 9th April, travelling in a GC (Balcony with Shower) at the aft end of the ship.

I received an email today stating that P&O were pleased to tell me that we had been "upgraded" to a GA cabin, midship on C deck to be precise.

We actually prefer to be at the aft end of the ship, we like listening to the noise of the wash, and as the cabin dimensions etc are identical I phoned P&O and declined the upgrade and asked to be moved back to our original cabin.

The reservations agent seemed a bit snooty with this request and told me off for not selecting the "no upgrade" option at the time of booking. Although she did move us back.

Had ween been upgraded to a superior balcony or suite then I would have indeed seen this as an upgrade but I didn't see this as much of one.

Im more than happy with what I have booked and paid for, but does this mean I have now effectively destroyed any chance of getting anything better should it come up?

We were upgraded on Cunard. The first thing they did was to lose our luggage. I eventually found it languishing in a corridor three decks below. Asked for a steward to relocate our luggage and was told all stewards were busy right now so I had to hump it all myself,(i'm 71). The next thing was the dining area was also upgraded. O.K. the service was superior etc but it also meant that I had to wear DJ every evening. O.K. for now and then but not my idea of a holiday. I would have preferred a more relaxing time on my hols.

  12. I use to be amazed but now simply amused..

So, if someone wants to take a flash picture they would need to ask your permission? if camera flashes really caused eye problems where are all the blind people? as far as I know none of the supermodels of the world are blind.

The super models of the world have their photographs taken by professional photographers who use top of the range cameras. these cameras use a feature which emits a series of small flashes to prepare the iris/retina for the big flash that is coming thereby eliminating "red eye". I was flashed by a phone-camera which gave no warning of the impending flash.

  13. It's called situational awareness. As in being aware of what is going around ( and especially in front of) you. If you had been paying attention you would have seen that you were walking between the photographer and his subject. When looking through a viewfinder you can't see what is going on beside or behind you. In your case, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Typical colonial. I was walking from one side of the room to the other side. The photographer in question suddenly raised her camera to take that "all important" happy snap. never mind who was going to be inconveinienced by her action. if I could have found her I would have instigated litigation.

  14. In Gerainger there is a bus tour company as you get off the ship. They use open sided minibuses and go on a round trip of 75-90 minutes visiting two vantage points high above the Fjord. Headphones are provided to listen to a commentary.

As good weather cannot be guaranteed this is a good choice as there is no commitment to do the tour if it is raining. Cost last year was about £20 per person.

There are other trips available which can be booked at the large tourist centre.

don't forget that wherever you go in Norway you should always build a cairn for the 'little people' to sit on. Doing this ensures a welcome return to norway. not building a cairn will ensure the wrath of the troll King and I am sure that you will have seen pictures of Himself and his nose; and you can imagine what he will do with that.

  15. for us Brits - if you want the discount use princess lines - as P&O only give the discount to shareholders..... Yet they are both part of carnival....

    Hi Guys

Having served more than 23 years in British Royal Air Force, would I be eligeable for the forces discount scheme operated by American cruise lines the same as ex forces personel who have served in the Canadian armed forces
