I dont understand how folks can say carnival is going the test cruise route and still insist vaccines will be required. Just wait for the policy to come out I keep saying when people argue.

Carnival tends to speak out both sides of their mouth, but I agree with I don’t think they’ll will be requiring vaccines especially now with Royals announcement.
I don’t think Disney will either. They are very embedded in Florida and I don’t see them ruffling any feathers. They didn’t go after the gov of Cali for keeping them shut down. They are not going to challenge DeSantis.

It appears the parties are in serious negotiations to try and settle. Which makes me wonder...if Florida does not have standing to sue the CDC (as some have claimed), then why would the Judge send them to mediation (rather than just throwing the case out), and why would the parties be working so hard to negotiate?

"Settlement discussions went for at least 11 hours on Thursday, before the Memorial Day weekend. And the discussions were scheduled to continue Tuesday, according to court documents."

That is not a news story that is a very biased opinion piece. The Governor's office has already debunked the story in Forbes as fake news.

If the number of cases exceed the threshold, the cruise is terminated. Period. Cruise lines will have to report cases to the CDC as they do with Noro. No port is going to want a cruise ship with covid cases to dock. The cruise is over. It isn't complicated.

A test is static and specific to a point in time. You could test negative today and test positive tomorrow. If anyone in a cruise becomes positive I can see the whole ship being required to be tested. Especially if it is a unvaxed cruise.

    Don't cruise. Problem solved.

They won’t be able to enforce mob rule! If anybody thinks ppl will abide by a mask rule and vaccinated, you live in a fantasy land.

I don’t know. Every where I go 90 % of the people are wearing masks even though we have no mask mandate and are vaccination rate is 50%. I think a lot of people can’t give up the mask. I expect a significant percentage of people on cruises to keep wearing them regardless of the policy.

It's all rhetoric at this point and it will all go away when Celebrity Edge sails out of Port Everglades with proof of vaccination that will be required by the first port of call.

Good thing it's before July 1 or they would get a big fine.

I thought the law was that businesses in Florida can't require proof of vaccination for service.  If they do test cruises, it appears they can ask passengers for either proof of vaccination or a self-certified statement.  In either of these options for the test cruises, they aren't denying service because they will accept either one or the other.

They can't ask for proof. As I understand you fill out a health statement saying you've been vaccinated. Basically the honor system

Pride is my personal favorite, not too big, and for me, not too small. Older, but really easy to get around

The disney Magic is probably about the same size, but a little older. I can get a premium balcony room on the pride for 4k less than an inside on Disney. Don't laugh...ok laugh.  We've cruised Disney 23 times, but mostly with interline rates that reduced the price about 30-40%. With covid and all I don't know what's going to go on with the cruise industry and last minute discounts. I've ruled out any cruise line that doesn't have laundry rooms.

When you're planning a three week trip to Europe laundry rooms are important. I'm also looking at Princess's  brand new ship.

It's going to be me and a 17 year old so teen club is also important.

  8. What do you all think of this ship? It has some nice itinerary's in Europe. I'm used to sailing on Disney and their ships are very well maintained. I sailed on the Vista in Europe when it was new.

Do you think I'd be disappointed?

To be clear, PhillyFan, I was criticizing the fact that you don't like a Cruise Critic article because it might be giving people hope that cruising would resume in May/June. What's it to you, or anyone else, if someone is optimistic and hopeful they'll cruise soon? How does it affect you? In the end, it'll be the cruise lines that make the decision of when to return, so why do you and so many others have such a problem with regular people...cruisers....being hopeful that they'll be able to cruise soon? If some people want to feel that way, who are you to tell them they shouldn't? There's a thread just like this that was created shortly after this one. It's almost as if some people WANT the shut-down to continue for months to come. Not out of concern for the safety of others, but just so they can say, "I told you so." Unfortunately, this is happening far beyond this message board. Never in my life have I seen such a large portion of the populace go after hope and optimism with such condemnation.

When cruising should return seems to be pretty divisive. Similar to politics or may be politics is the reason for the divisiveness

Actually, I've found DCL's wifi to be more cost effective than other cruise lines.  Yes, you need to turn off all apps, automatic downloads, etc.  But you do no use up your mbs looking for a signal.  That's the good thing.  On Princess, you use up minutes from the time you log on till the time you log off, regardless of whether you spend 10 minutes looking trying to find a signal and load a page.  On DCL, you pay for what you upload or download, not for the time you sit there with nothing happening!

As to an earlier question about disembarking with someone other than an adult in your cabin, the parent/guardian can complete a form a Guest Services giving permission for a child to disembark with a specified adult other than one in their cabin.  And for Castaway Cay, they can give permission for a teen to disembark on their own.  It is a very simple form--name of child/teen, name of adult, signature.

I understand how to use DCL's internet. The fact that you have to turn off everything on phone to save mbs make it not effective. I'd rather just pay the 10 to 15 dollars a day other cruiselines charge and not worry about it.

True, Shmoo.  But we have disembarked at MANY different ports on DCL, and they do follow the Port Canaveral procedures as far as possible.  Barcelona, Dover, San Juan, and probably others followed the PC procedures re luggage totally.

    I agree with this.

  12. As far as internet go it's awful. I'd rather pay a flat fee and get unlimited wifi. Make sure you turn off all apps, downlowds, email etc or it will use up your mb's. Also don't forget to log out. In addition to that if your in a place like Alaska where internet is spotty you may blow through your mb's just looking for a signal.

    Hi Cruisers,

Just wondering how often you've had to skip a stop at Castaway Cay during your September cruises during inclement weather events?

I'm hoping to cruise on Disney, but I'm limited to September itineraries due to vacation timing and curious to know my likelihood of a missed stop at CC (which the entire fambam is super excited to visit.

    Cheers,

    Matt

Why do you think you would miss Castaway in Sept? Honestly the Winter months is when Castaway is most ofter missed due to high winds and winter storm fronts. It's funny how people think hurricane season is the only time you get storms. Ships avoid hurricanes. Winter storms they tend to just barrel through. Hurricanes are rarer then the Winter storms that move across the Atlantic.

Has anyone taken DCL across the Atlantic?  Do you find it too monotonous without any shore days?  I wondered if they tried to vary the entertainment and menus more than usual.  Thanks.

No I didn't find it monotonous. They had a variety of shows, but if you've cruised DCL before many of them are the same.  The food meh. I'm not a fan of DCL food so I'm  probably not the best person to ask. To be fair we had perfect weather and smooth seas. If the opposite had occurred I may have a different opinion of TA cruises. I am planning another one next year, but we'll be going the opposite direction.
