  1. peace and quiet and a human re-charge. At the end of our first cruise with cunard i thought i was gonna have to have the police make my wife get off the ship.....i gave thought to having my furniture and mail sent there too ....we are about 14 cruises with them now and getting close to diamond status .

    Thankfully, there's no limit.

I wish  it was just a buck, then we wouldn't bother, but it's nor, so we always bring our own Widow, usually half a dozen.

and what a treat to see at check in ...it kinda of oozes something

Giggling here, as this tread has really gone off the rails.....

I guess there's now a big debate on what kind of towel you should wrap around yourself and dash back to the cabin.....and this from probably the most "formal" of all cruise lines.

On Regent, who uses the "country club casual" code, there are massive, militant comments on the horrors of wearing your robe to the pool/hot tub.......shaking my head....

wait until it gets into how much soda/booze can i bring on board to save a buck .....you aint seen nuttin

    Jesus!

As OP I just wanted to think about what I might pack so as to fit in.  I did tweak noses a bit. But this has evolved quite a bit since then.

    Carnivalised?

I will enjoy my cruise. QM2 is not my destination, it is my ride.  I'm glad my cabin is aft and near hot tubs and pools!

fyi....port aft deck 6 and you will hear the children rumbling past your door going to the daycare in the early morning qm2

Right idea but different ship. Those photos of mine were taken in Kings Court on QM2 in 2014 (before the remastering). I think they were approximately in the position shown in this post-remastering Cruise Critic photo of Kings Court.

What areas would be some what off limit?

The buffet area, Kings Court, looks very nice for a cruise ship. At dinner I'd assume that was more casual dress.

We're 11 month out, covid willing. Our intentions are to mingle in a CC cultured manner, mostly. It is that packing thing.  I guess I'll skip those "pack in one carry-on for a months vacation" videos.

iirc there are very few...i mean its not like an entire deck is no go and it is on formal/gala nights . The main dining room, some bars and the queens room but again on certain nights . In a nutshell....bring a suit or

jacket or sport coat, dress pants and shirts, mix and match if you feel like it . 98% of the ship is open to you on gala nights . The dress in kings court after 6 is all over the spectrum sometimes i will wear a tie just for my wife ,most of the time i am in casual pants and a nice shirt with a pocket logo. I buy a new pair of jeans before every trip ,they will get used mostly for excursions , i bring no t shirts just polo types. You will see people in shorts/monster truck t shirts/ripped jeans/bathrobes [gasp]  in kings court 24/7 and it is fine. well the bathrobe and slippers are rather bad imho . Again 12 plus cruises with cunard and only wore a tux once i just bring 2 sport coats[i save packing and wear one on boarding they are great for holding my paperwork] ,we do not do the main dining room or the ball room .

Agreed as an acceptable minimum in Formal Nights.

Remember, an acceptable minimum standard to some is perceived as being the maximum of effort by the minimum standard wearer.  Hence the divide of opinion on what the level of "effort" is actually made. - It's all in the mind of the wearer.

Was once informed by a "Dark Suit" that "Tux" wearers are overdressed for Dinner, with both he and his Wife finding the 'Penguin Procession" (his words) to the Dining Room hilarious.  It's all in the mind.

well they kinda do look like a penguin procession because of wearing too tight shoes and a tux they out sized years ago ....at least some women could wear sneakers under long dresses [and think no one noticed lol]

Just booked a NYC - NYC 21 day cruise to Norway on the QE2.  We have not cruised on Cunard.

Will I need a tux or will a black suit  be sufficient?

    Any other Cunard culture advice?

You would need a tux/suit in certain parts of the ship on gala nights. If you choose not to wear/bring them it does not mean you will be confined to your room, most of the ship is available to you. I stopped the tux thing many voyages ago ,i just bring a sport coat and sometimes tie for after 6 but mostly nice pants and shirt . I respect the areas where it is formal which is really no bother at all. SSSSSSSOOOOOO the bottom line is if you go sans tux/suit you will not go hungry, thirsty or made to walk the plank by the god class nor kept in a fenced in area . We have over 12 cruises with cunard

According to a list of promotional sailings posted by MCCRetired, it looks like QM2 will only be in drydock for 5 days.  There is a sailing 10/29-11/7 New York to Hamburg.  Next up is a 11/12 WB crossing from Hamburg.  Given that the line will have had almost no revenue coming in for over a year, the drydock will probably be limited to whatever is operationally necessary.

5 days does not come anywhere close to a re-fit ......more like patch ,assess and report .  I am beginning to wonder if my 4 or so cruises to diamond status is going to happen .

The Princess 'American Bacon' is cremated or as some would say nuked.  To be eaten with the fingers as it is so brittle. I was told by a cook they deep fry it.  I don't mind it at all.  Brits and Aussies would call it streaky bacon, for that is what it is, lot of fat, but we would only half nuke it.

As a bacon junky i have found kings court my bane . I prefer rare and can spot it from the pile feet away ,i have been spotted on more than one occasion with a separate plate just for it. Just one of the many foods i go through withdrawal upon disembarking . I got lucky once where breakfast shutdown was way slow and lunch [hamburgers] were up early.......i jacked a plate of bacon for our double patty burgers

I guess you're referring to the "Full English", it should be made with proper sausages, not Hot Dog sausages. It's English not British because there are alternative Scottish and Welsh breakfasts.

Usually we complain about being called English not British but in the case of the breakfast it's English.

first time i got foreign whatever on the qm2 years ago i just pushed the beans away and tried the proper....it was a hot dog
