  1. We were looking at booking a cruise in January, on a ship that has a dedicated Cigar Lounge.  I know that MSC has one, but our choice has been narrowed down to the Norwegian Jewel (or Escape) and Caribbean Princess.  My question is this:  is cigarette smoking permitted in the Cigar lounge on either of the ships I have mentioned?

I do not smoke cigarettes, but my DH likes to smoke cigars, and doesn't like cigarettes.

    (It's hard to be me..lol)

    TY in advance...

We had a great cruise on summit two weeks ago and have her booked next year.

All ships have problems.  We have had no air, toilet problems.  It is just that these days, with social media readily available, you hear most of the worst of what might happen, not the best. We sailed on the Summit in November last year, and booked her again for October of this year.  There were no problems with the condition of the ship, nor anything else for that matter during the time we sailed.

  4. And always, ALWAYS print out a copy of the transaction you make to make sure it is on your account when you get on the ship...on our last cruise (recently), before we left, I called Celebrity to make sure the OBC was showing up on our account, and I was advised it was there.  We got on the ship and they didn't have the info in their computer.  I showed the rep the receipt that I printed out, and she still questioned it...it took 3 days for the ship had any record of it in their computers...

We are peasants who did a move-up to a lowly SS on Ascent at the end of January. We mostly wanted the bigger room and balcony, but were prepared to suffer the horrors of having to go to Luminae and enjoying the Retreat deck. Oh the pain!  I read the indignant Butler threads here and was prepared never to see a butler. We did see him, but never utilized his services because like I say we are basically poor, low-class plebeians. Also he was running his feet off for the high-and-mighty ones on our deck.

I liked the Retreat deck mainly because it was quieter than the steerage pool decks. The only time we couldn't avail ourselves of an umbrella was when it was too windy. Drinks were offered by exceptionally pleasant and helpful servers on a regular basis. Perhaps we got good service despite  being the scum-of-the-earth occupants of a SS, but because we were polite and friendly to the servers? I dunno...it's hard to tell? although watching some of the entitled, unbelievably rude people there treating the staff like lowly peons was horrifying and illuminating.

We did go to Luminae on the first night, and listened to the woman next to us criticizing the food, berating the staff and then wondering aloud to her husband if Future Cruises would be able to cancel their next booking in the Emperors Suite (or whatever) and move them to Silver seas (or whatever) It really spoiled the experience for me, although I enjoyed the food and the service. The rest of the time we did speciality dining or went to the MDR. We went to Luminae for breakfast on disembarkation day and it was so good. I wish I hadn't  let Lady Muck ruin it.

I like to balance value with style. I would definitely use Retreat again if the price was right, but am also happy to stay with the lesser classes in basic staterooms.

    Good write..love it!

Just got off the same cruise and my thoughts are very similar to yours.  We booked another Summit cruise for Feb 25 last week while on-board.

Only negative, this made me realize why any cruise less than 9 or 10 days isn't my cup of tea.  We did this as it was a better option than what we were planning, but this is the shortest cruise I have ever taken and just left me needing more!!  🙂 🙂

Glad you enjoy your cruise!  We booked the Summit again for the repositioning cruise to San Juan in October!  Also, new ports for us, so we are very excited.

  7. We were on the Summit in a Sky Suite in November...what a treat!  So good that while we were on the Reflection, we decided to book the Summit Sky Suite in October for the repositioning cruise to San Juan, for the sole reason that it will go to ports we have never been to.  Can't wait!

I don’t believe that the deck four port side area is one of the designated areas for cigar smoking. It is possible that you would be chased away from there and referred to the one area so designated but as always, YMMV

I mentioned it because this is where we sat to smoke cigars.  No one ever said anything....

  9. We were on the Summit last month.  My husband found that the best place to smoke his cigars was on Deck 4 Port Side.  There is cover from the deck above (but still open air flow) and a few chairs and coffee tables. Hardly ever busy.  There is also a smoking section the Port side of the pool deck, with many chairs, but rarely did he find a seat open....and yes, upstairs on the Port side of the Mast Bar, again just a few seats available.

  10. We were on the Summit (sister ship to the Constellation) last month and the best place to smoke is on Deck 4 port side...covered open area, and pretty much out of the wind.  Most people went up to the pool deck on the port side, and those seats were always in use.  Other area is port side by the bar; but only a few areas to sit.
