  1. Here's a really outrageous idea.... Why not just serve yourself a modest single plate of food plus a beverage (pretty easy to handle with two hands)? And then,if you're still hungry, you can return for a second helping. This idea may help prevent overeating and the extra exercise may further help the calorie differential.

    How funny & true! 😄

  2. My sister and daughter thought it was undrinkable swill and went to the Café AL Bacio for their coffee. Both bought drink packages without the alcohol.

May I ask does this mean that a beverage package would cover pre paid coffee from Cafe Al Bacio? I proudly admit to being a coffee snob as are many Melburnians. It would please me no end if I could use a bevy package for my coffees.

    Yes!

  3. That is not true, although it would make sense.

With the premium package normally anything over 12/13 you would pay the difference, but they wont let you do it for the flights. Ironically you could order all six or the flight martinis in a row and just drink part and waste all the rest.......so one of those things that doesn't make a ton of sense....but it is because giving six little martinis at the same time lends itself to the possibility of sharing, which is prohibited.

I have heard of some people that have indeed done this? Just saying...

  4.

I can imagine with 3 people in the cabin it could be a problem but as a couple in my opinion there was more than enough space for all our stuff... I've always thought the storage above the bed was a great idea!! But I am 6ft3 so guess that helps... 😄

If you struggle as a sole maybe you should only take 3 x changes of cloths per day!! 😁 how many bags does one need for a vacation... 😉

  5. Great review and does indeed make a refreshing read to hear how great the silhouette was for you! I also don't see where all the negatives come from... Other then some people do like a good old moan!!

I must say though from your first few sentences I was preparing myself to go in feet first with my reply but then it clicked and laughed through the rest of it...

Glad you had a great time! 😄

  6. Just back from our first ever Celebrity cruise, - 11 nights in the med on Silhouette. Having read some of the 'stuff' on here I had some concerns about what we might find and how we might be treated.

This was also our first 'big ship' cruise and I wondered how we would cope with being couped up with nearly 3,000 other people in a big tin box!

    How funny!

We did the silhouette for our very first cruise dec 2012 and absolutely loved the whole experience... So much so we have done 2 x eclipse cruise since and have another 4 solstice class cruises on the books over the next 2 years! 😎

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the moaners & wingers on here as I think some people are really not happy unless they are complaining about something!! As for your experience I would say that's the opinion of 99.9% of the people that try celebrity for the first time!! It truly is a great company with amazing ships & fantastic crew and altogether makes for a great cruise holiday for most!

Our next cruise is in October on the equinox and with 3 celebrity's cruises under our belt I can assure you we are really looking forward to the whole experience again... Only 3&1/2 months to go!! 😀

  7. Great thread!

We are booked on the eclipse next May for the 7 night cruise and really looking forward to it as it's on the bucket list so really glad to have that to look forward too...

As for the weather I'm not expecting it to be great as it's Norway in May? Kind of hoping for a bit of snow as I think that will make for some cool pictures!

Normally my choice would be a sunbathing holiday but for that it would be the Caribbean so whatever the weather is like in Norway it's fine with me! :)

  8. Look on the bright side. When prices adjust a little about 4 months before sailing, a lot of the inside & OV pax will probably upgrade to a balcony for the same cost of their inside/OV. That seems to happen quite a bit.

That's exactly what I was hoping to do on the equinox transatlantic this October... Booked an inside over a year ago and the balcony's prices went up & up and before we new it the cruise sold out months ago! There is currently a royal suite going for $10,000 but might give that a miss... :D

I know there are agents holding onto cabins at the moment so hopefully nearer final payment there will be a bit more availability?!

  9. Didn't know about the app, but have a look.

Have made contact with your TA and working out some options.

Just a shame on the time difference..

Yeah the time difference isn't ideal but hopefully you will get a good deal!

    Good luck!

  10. Have to agree with Mr T used a Fairfx card last year in the states and was fantastic and so easy to use.

We used it ever where to pay for goods and food and no changes at all.

Will use it again and bring a small amount of cash.

This time will load card and use it to pay for cruise and being able to lock dollar rate is a great benefit.

Have you used the app for it... Makes it even easier to load money & keep track of your account!

  11. This thread is another reason I love this site...lots of good info and little things many take for granted or don't realize and end up paying in the end...literally

So the wife and I are sailing in Oct on the Reflection...AQ class with the Premium drink package......is there anything in that room that I could get charged for or does my class and pkg I paid for cover the room extras?

    Thanks

Just don't touch the mini bar! I have always asked them to empty it on day one so it frees up space to use with your own drinks you can pick up during the day!

Others have said they don't do that any more but if you don't ask you don't know...

    Enjoy!

  12. According to their website, the charges seem more complicated than that. I will take another look at some time in the future as we already have all our finances sorted out for our next two cruises and our third is already booked with Celebrity. Hopefully, one of the solutions will work for us when we need it next.

Just incase we are talking about different cards I have put the link to the one I use below... I have just checked and the t's & c's are the same as always been! The only charges are as follows

    http://www.fairfx.com/cardselection

1 - £9.95 to get a new card (free if recommended by someone that has one, I'm more then happy to do this)

2 - $2.00 per cash withdrawal from ATM or over the counter in a USA bank!

3 - other charges apply if you use the dollar card to make any payment in another currency other than US dollars

If you use the dollar card to pay for anything in dollars online or in a store/restaurant/bar etc there is no charges whatsoever...

If you have any questions please feel free to ask, as I said I have used the card for cruises and land based holidays all over the states and never had a problem and with the app you get live updates so you know exactly where you are regarding the balance available to spend!

Reading this back it sounds like I work for the company but be assured I don't I just highly recommend the product as it's so easy & more importantly safe to use : )

  13. Maybe they have changed the system... I will also have a look!

I've had the card now for 5 years and only ever been charged when I used a ATM to take out cash in the states!

I top up via the app and there's no charge there... I pay my cruise agent in the states with it and no there's no charge for that... And I use it for paying my onboard spend and there's no charge for that... I've used it for many purchases in shops and restaurants in the states also and you guessed it... No charges! Plus the rate is normally one of the best around!

I guess what the website might be saying is if you use it out of the states then there will be charges but for anything dollar related Its all good! Other then ATM's as mentioned!

  14. Many thanks.

I used to work for an FX company. Options I have investigated in the past actually had costs that negated using them as a solution for the level of expenditure a cruise represents. They may make sense for a larger purchase such as buying a property but not lesser expenditures such as the difference between the price of the cruise in the US and UK and/or holiday spending money.

I must admit that I just assumed that things would not change that much. I shall investigate these two suggestions.

There is I think a £10 one off fee to sign up (which you can work around without paying) but other then that there are no charges at all for using it to pay for things online or in US businesses! As long as your paying in dollars? The only charge is to take money out of the cash machine...

Have a look at the website as it's very easy to set up & run, plus they normally have great rates too!

  15. We've got the 123 go deals on our next two cruises and not being big drinkers feel that the choice is plenty big enough on the classic package

We are also not big drinkers but we do like a couple of Martinis or molecular bar drinks each day/night and if you have 1 a day it's paid for... Plus all the extras you get like fresh OJ/premium bigger waters etc make it worth the little extra! 😃

  16. Yes, it is one of the best deals around IMO. Based on the various discussions over the last month concerning the Classic package I continue to be surprised that most people do not appear to pay the $11.50 pp daily charge to upgrade to Premium. The other great benefit of the Premium package is the ability to only pay the difference if you want something over the $13 limit. This comes in handy for some large international beers and selective wines.

Enjoy your cruise and the package.

    I agree totally 😎
