  1. Okay, I can not hold back anymore. I have to react to the hilarious writings of Mr. Fletcher.

Everybody has his own view and opinion about life, life's ways, places to go, the behaviour of fellow citizens, and holidays in general.

Mr. Fletcher is spreading his personal observations and judgements on this tread and he has all the right to do so. Eventhou i prefer the 'the glass is half full' people to the half empty ones. But that again is my opinion.

I feel like the quality of the writers words by expressing ironie, sear amazement, racism and yes...even humor brings us all some good reading. (Very funny was the expression of 'half naked people drinking martini's', or someone sitting in the sun and drink a lovely gin and tonic or a glass of bubbles, making Seabourn a 'shangria booze cruise'). The man should book a carnival cruise during spring break, that will get him going. Looking forward to the novel, or will it be an 'autobiografy', he will write of that.

What I highly appreciate is the fact that he seems not hessitant in mentioning the negative as well as the positive. Many on this forum are not capable of this objectivity

The dear sir definitely feels superiour to his fellow travellers and his surroundings. He has been to such importent places and events where he met incredibly high class people that it seems necessary for him to be name-dropping. This definitely disappointed me.

Dear Mr. Fletcher, do not get frustrated by all the criticisme. Keep on writing. You are entertaining me. Thank you.

  2. Does anyone have information on the owner suite, midship, on deck 7?

It should have less trouble with seamovements in comparison to the forward owner suites. But how is the layout? Did any of you stay in this suite and did you think it has its advantages?

    Thank you, Peter

  3. To make things clear; Statia wasn't BAD, it was pretty and laidback lovely, but there wasn't anything to do on the side where we came in with the tender. Some dutch locals displayed there craftwork and some girls danced. One of the ladies told us they get 3 to 5 cruiseships a year before we came in, so there is no logistic to serve the (smaller) cruiseships. We thought of renting a taxi from the small dock and tour the island, but there was no transport available at all. Still this all wasn't a bad thing at all. It was like a breath of fresh air to arrive at an island where there is no commercial shopping desaster and locals pulling and screaming at you to buy this and do that.

So most of the passengers had a lovely leisurly walk and look around and came back to the ship for lunch and enjoy a gorgeous day in the sunshine and a rainbow at sailaway.

  4. Hello,

We are basically on the same itinerary on the 18th of january but starting and ending in St Maarten on the Legend. We did a similar cruise on the legend last year which included St. Eustatius. Eventhou this island has a special memory to us, there isn't really a thing to do at all. Seabourn didn't have excursions here and all we did was have a look at the small fort overlooking the harbour and watch local dancers. Most passangers were back on the ship in two hours. So we where not that disappointed to hear they swapped St. E for Anguilla as we haven't been there.

  5. Here I stand, hat in hand, looking Ho hum in the eye. I take a deep bow and say, 'thank you for your wonderful words, the beautiful lines and the soft sarcasm in your idle jottings. Be it drivel or not, it has been pure pleasure.

  6. If the itineraries were reveiled just a few days ago, then I do not understand how it is possible that some cruises are already booked fully and some cruise itineraries have already no availability anymore for owner suite or above?

    How can that be?

  7. Dear Ho-Hum and other writers on this thread,

It has been an utmost pleasure reading your wonderful lines, many thanks from germany in very early and warm spring.

Mein lieber Ho-Hum, es war mit äußerstem Vergnügen Ihre wunderbare Zeile zu lesen, vielen Dank aus Deutschland im sehr frühen und warmen Frühling.

  8. Dear ho humm,

IF in Hongkong stay away from all the chineese restaurants that were given michelin stars, we had dinner at most of them and all were a scam. We left some without hardly touching the food as the ambience was like in a factory cantine and the grease dripping off the plates, others were so high style that a surtan clientele didn't find it nessesary to lower their voices or make use of forks and knifes, nor chopsticks; Just shovel it in with your fingers, elegantly.

In a three starred one in a high class hotel the 4 ladies next to us were so 'sex and the city' they texted eachother continuously without making conversation. At the table behind us a familie had their nanny for the little child standing next to the table, the nanny for the grandmother too was not allowed to sit down and stood the whole evening behind grannys chair. At another table two out of a party of five were reading a book in between courses. And the level of telefonconversations was overwhelming the background music.

In general we found the food in these places to be very bland, service uninterested and truly expensive. We are used to spent well in top restaurants in europe and probably expected the same value in those restaurants that Michelin threw hands full of stars at in hongkong.

If you want to eat sensationally good cantonees food go to one of the little teahouses where the locals go for lunch and you will have ridiculously wonderful dim sum.

    Bon appetit

  9. We had asked for different offers from different agents for our train trip and privat guides (delhi, agra, udaipur)and prices ranged from 200 to 2000 for exactly the same, so be aware.

From Delhi to Agra it is two hours by train from the main station to main station; an interesting adventure.

In Agra stay at the Oberoi and nowhere else. It is fabulous and has direct views and access to the Taj Mahal.

If time visit Udaipur (by plane), and again stay at the fabulously gorgeous Oberoi there. The city is soooo much nicer then other cities in india and has plenty palaces and you can walk the markets that are less crowded and much safer then elswhere.
