  1. We're also booked on the 2018 Mardi Gras cruise! A really different kind of cruise for us' date=' but we're hoping the ship is packed with people who are fun and ready for the biggest party in the USA[/quote']

The 2017 cruise was fun, but only because of the guests, we made our own fun and planned our own activities. The ship, and especially the cruise director really dropped the ball. The decorations consisted of two large masks hung by Guest Services and that's it. It was really disappointing that the ship made no effort whatsoever.

  2. The only people that benefited from entertainment on Monday night is those that didn't want to get off the ship. The majority of the people were off the ship attending parades. He had 8 previous nights to do something, anything, but didn't do a thing. I don't consider serving King Cake in the buffet an experience, sorry.

  3. Can you elaborate on what John did extra to make the experience better, maybe I am missing something. If it wasn't for the Cruise Critic group that planned out the parade and the other get togethers, it would have been just another cruise. We spoke with John, and he pretty much could have cared less to speak with us. Gave us about 10 seconds of his time. But he made sure he had a talk on his previous job as stuntman/actor and lousy trivia. You know you have over 2,000 passengers coming on the ship, and you hand out about 300 sets of beads, really, they cost next to nothing to purchase. I don't blame Celebrity for the immigration snafu, we walked off the ship and still made it to the Bacchus parade.

  4. I was also on the 2017 Mardi Gras cruise. The ship really lacked as far as theme goes. They handed out about 200 beads when we boarded. Obviously not enough for everyone. Other than that, they set out 2 mardi gras cut outs and a few decorations by Guest Relations (and I mean very few). That is it, no Cajun food, and the only Mardi Gras entertainment was for those that stayed on the ship Monday night. The rest of the entertainment was the typical cruise entertainment, 60's, 80's etc. If I were to do it again, I would only attend the Fat Tuesday parades. Monday night was just too long, and if you are on the wrong side of the parade route, it is very difficult to cross the parade to get back to the ship. Keep in mind a lot of restaurants are closed on Fat Tuesday for the holiday. So if you want to eat local, you need to do it Monday. Do not purchase anything from 709 Events or the address of 709 St. Charles, it is a total rip off, with nasty employees. Buy a grandstand seat from the New Orleans parade website, much more reasonable, you don't need to spend any more.

  5. That sucks, we love the one on Oasis [emoji20]

Us too, that's why we talked our friends into the one on the Allure. What confuses me is that they have had so many people walk out. Why hasn't someone on the management team sat in on it and experienced it so they have a better understanding.

  6. We are not planning to do the party on our Oct 30 Allure cruise, but can you give more information? What were you expecting and what did you get instead?

To us the hosts acted like they had never done any of this before. The band didn't play music from the era. Just mostly sitting and listening to the band. Host kept saying Mr. Gold would show up throughout the night. At the very end of the night Mr. Gold showed up and paraded around with the lady that won the costume contest. That was the big lead up??? and the night was over. On previous parties, they at least got the guests involved, they would give everyone dance lessons etc and had a men's and women's costume contest. This one they just picked a young lady out and gave her a bottle of wine and said she won. No dance lessons, nothing. We would have had more fun sitting at Bolero's watching people dance. It was basically sitting and listening to a band play music from the 40's and 50's not the 20's.

  7. Just got off the ALLURE on 9-25, GREAT SHIP but a warning to all DO NOT GO TO THE PHOHIBITION PARTY ( a charge of $35pp ) it was the WORST party we have ever been to. We walked out after 45min. the manager stopped us & asked why we were leaving we told him in one word "BORING" he took our cabin # & said we would get our money back, as he was talking to us 8 more people walked out & he went over to them & asked the same question & got the same ans. Save your money & stay away from this show.

We went to this on the 9/11 sailing. Several people walked out as well and they refunded our money. The food and beverage manager also caught up with us the next day and we had a long conversation about it. It was a horrible experience. We went on the Oasis last year and had a great time, that's why we booked it.

  8. We also just came back on Sunday on the Allure. The one thing that stands out particularly is that our friend is gluten free and Royal was very accommodating for her. The only glitch we had was the Prohibition Party. It was a major disappointment. We had done the party on the Oasis and loved it. This was very unorganized, almost as if the hosts were new to the event. There was no value in it at all. As we were exiting we told them our disappointment. The next day the food and beverage manager tracked us down and offered us a refund. He too, was very apologetic and asked us about our experience to better understand. He truly cared about our opinion of the event. Our stateroom attendant was fantastic as well as the dining room staff. Usually the head waiter stops by once to check on you during the week. He came by every evening to see how we were doing and to also make sure our friends gluten free meals were taken care of. Kenmar was our waiter in Chops, he is fantastic and our chef in Isumi at the hibatchi was very entertaining. The first night the diamond lounge was over packed, but the crowds thinned down after that. I think many people took advantage of having their drinks at one of the bars instead.

  9. No, you won't be a plain Jane at all! I think a lot of people on cruises prefer a hassel-free look, so you definitely won't be alone.

I personally get eyelash extensions, and I love them. They're definitely not for everyone, though. I love how they look, and I love that I don't have to bother putting mascara on my top lashes. The only time I've ever worn false eyelashes was when I was going through chemo and all my natural lashes had fallen out. They're such a pain to put on! And I hated that I could feel them sitting there all the time.

I did eyelash extensions once and they were a nightmare. Besides having to have them filled in continually, and having to be careful how you sleep so you don't wake up with lashes that go every direction, I prefer fake ones. I only wear them when I am dressed up, and prefer ones that are natural looking.

  10. Hi! Wil be on Allure July 31 and are wondering if someone could review the Prohibition Event? It looks like fun, but would love to hear how it was from someone that has been? Pics would also be great! TIA

We went on the Oasis last year and had a great time. The cost includes light appetizers and two types of drinks served in tea cups. They have a few games etc, I think it depends on the crowd. We had a great group and made it fun, but I could see some might think it's not worth the money. If you plan on going, then by all means dress up, it makes it more fun. We are going on the Allure in the fall, and are participating again.
