  1. From Saratoga...? Not sure I know what you mean.

    We're from Schenectady...

Sorry...just wondered if you got your cruise voucher from the Saratoga Casino. We received one from them a couple of years ago. We were invited to come to the casino one afternoon and pick up the voucher. It surprised me because I had only gambled there twice in the past year!

My parents are regular players at Harrah's and they get their vouchers from Atlantic City.

  2. I know what you're saying.. I actually did ask them at the time of booking how much it would be to upgrade...

To a oceanview was like $80pp extra

To a balcony was $300pp extra

    Absolutely NO deal there...

Right...really not much of a deal.

Did you get your cruise from Saratoga (I see your 25 minutes away from me)? I got one from there a few years ago. We booked, but had to cancel at the last minute (literally the morning we were supposed to fly out) because my mother-in-law passed away. We "lost" the voucher and weren't able to rebook using it.

We're trying again this year and hoping for better luck.

  3. You can upgrade your inside cabin when using a CAS voucher.

We are going on a cruise with my parents in January and they are cruising with a CAS voucher and are in some sort of balcony stateroom. One thing to be aware of -- the prices you see online will not really compare to the price you are quoted for your upgrade.

For example, my parents booked a mid-ship balcony when they booked their cruise with CAS. After looking at deck plans and comparing their location to ours, I did some research and suggested my mom change categories and cabins. On NCL's site, the difference between her old cabin and new cabin was $10. When she finally was able to talk to someone in order to upgrade, the price difference was around $150. She made the switch, though, simply because the new location was better for her.

You will see it stated that CAS representatives do not have available all of the cabins on the ships. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but before my mom made the call, I gave her a list of cabins to ask about and she was able to book the one I suggested.

So, if you want to try for a better cabin, decide what you want and give them a call to see what they will offer you.

  4. As long as the ID isn't expired, the ID with the wrong address should be all he would need to board a plane. I don't recall my ID ever being scanned so they wouldn't have any way of knowing he had a new one issued, so I think if he shows the ID he should be perfectly fine. One suggestion though, I only offer the ID (with the wrong address), if it then causes a hiccup I would have him then bring out the rest of the backup documentation.

Hopefully the new ID comes in the mail or the old one (with the correct address) is able to be located. Either way I wish you a wonderful and stress free trip!

I live in NY and if your address changes, you can just write it in on the back of your driver's license. I did this. It eventually smeared off. I flew over a dozen times with this license with no issues. The chances of doing an address compare are pretty thin.

Like mentioned above, have the backup documents, but don't bring them out unless necessary. I'm pretty sure they won't be necessary. I just flew on Monday and the only thing they did to my ID (besides looking at my name) is to shine the light on it to make sure it wasn't fake.

The only hiccup I could possible foresee is if they do scan it in some way and find out it another one has been issued. That's when you can bring out your back-up documentation.

I think you will be fine. Enjoy the trip and I'm looking forward to hearing about it since we are doing the same itinerary in the same cabin category in January.

  5. We've stayed in Treasure Island once and St. Pete Beach three times. I prefer St. Pete Beach -- the traffic doesn't seem as bad.

In St. Pete Beach, we've stayed twice at Guy Harveys. Pricey, but nice and relaxing. They do have an additional resort fee. We've also stayed at the Grand Plaza Resort (octagon-shaped building). It was nice as well.

The only disappointing food we've had in the area was at Crabby Bill's. We tried it twice and won't be back -- just wasn't for us.

This past year we did a sunset sail out of Dolphin Landings shopping plaza. It was very nice. We also enjoy John's Pass. We did a tour of Shell Island with Hubbard's Marina one year from there.

We've driven up to Clearwater a couple of times, but I just can't like it as much as many people do. There's just something so commercialized about it all -- more so than John's Pass to me in some weird way.

Enjoy your stay there. We'll be back in 2015 -- it's an every-other-year thing for us.

  6. That's good to know. Did you call to reprice it with the AARP discount. What's going to be funny is if they let me combine the Kids Sail Free discount with the AARP discount when it comes up. ;) At that point if they don't allow both I'll just have to figure out which one is best.

When we called to make the final payment, my husband mentioned missing out on the AARP discount and they gave us $300 in OBC. Since we're in an S4 and upgrades aren't really possible, we are happy with the OBC.

And while I didn't marry him for the AARP discount, maybe it does help make up for the 11 year difference in musical tastes! :p

  7. My husband just turned 50 and joined AARP. When we booked our cruise (by calling NCL) there were no AARP dicounts on the cruise we wanted when we booked.

When I checked prices a week or so later online, the discount was available.

So, this is one of those things that may come and go. Check your options and see what works best for you with each booking.
