  1. I booked it when I booked and paid for the cruise (casino deal). The HAL agents can tell you how many of each category are left. You can choose anything within, as we didn't pick the top tier, but another that we preferred. You must stay within your category (inside to inside, outside to outside, etc.)

  2. Hello. Thinking about a cruise on Zaandam and wondering if there is a thalassotherapy/hydrotherapy pool that is a decent size (same as Nieuw Statendam or Koningsdam). There is little to no information about the spa that I have been able to find. Thank you.

  3. Just met a guy on a B2B2B2B and he took tips off all 4. I made my feelings known, but he bragged about being on free casino cruises, free casino money, free drinks and no gratuities. SMH. As a shareholder, I think they should be required, built into fare or not allowed to be removed without documented issues warranting the removal.

  4. As we approach Fort Lauderdale for our arrival after a 10 day cruise, we reflect on our cruise and are so pleased with HAL and our experience. We encountered the most wonderful crew, delicious food, and a beautiful ship. Our room steward, Sugi, only had 7 cabins to attend to. We were in an inside spa cabin and had Club Orange. The Club Orange experience was wonderful and we would definitely do it again. Our waiter, Sue, was a delight, as was every crew member in the club orange restaurant.  We never ate in the main dining room. Not a meal went by where Reza, the maitre de didn't stop by to say hello and make sure we were happy. We also went to the spa daily for the thalassotherapy pool and what a treat that was. The casino was fun, the few shows we saw were enjoyable, but we were sad that there wasn't a movie on deck nightly. Only 2 nights of the 10. It is one of our favorite parts of cruising. One comedian was not good, the other was terrific. We felt so sad for the one that we didn't enjoy (no laughter...our opinion, as someone may have enjoyed him). Not his crowd, I suppose. We ate in Canaleto one evening...pretty fantastic. We ate in Dutch Cafe once...it was fine. Enjoyed pizza, salads and the Dive in burgers. Happy to answer questions. We'd return in a heartbeat if we could. There were many cruisers on for multiple cruises and how lovely that would be. The ever controversial people who took off the gratuities baffled us. I don't get it...the crew works so hard and to sail and not reward their hard work seems a shame. These crew leave their families and are always "on" for the passengers, tipping is deserved in our opinion. We are so lucky to have enjoyed cruising again. Hubby is preparing his cash for extra handshakes this evening. I'm surprised with Covid that handshakes occur, but he did ask ahead and the old pass the cash handshake of gratitude still stands. He will Purell after...I will make sure!

  5. We were in Aruba this week and had arranged with Royal for a car rental, a few months ago. We hurried off the ship to meet the representative at specified time. They weren't there. My husband called and we were told they did not have a car for us after all. No email or call from them...and no apology. We had a whole day planned out and they left us high and dry. Scrambling, we found a guy from Ritchi car rental who had a car... yes, twice the price, but he saved our day. DO NOT depend on Royal. Shame on them for treating cruise tourists this way. Please contact Richi, who were quick, understanding and reliably there when we  returned the car. ROYAL...such a disappointment.

  6. Can't get through on the HAL phone lines and chat isn't working...recently purchased this upgrade and our boarding time is still 2:20 Group H. Shouldn't that change with the purchase of Club Orange? Driving down to the port and have never boarded so late, nor is that preferable. Hard to predict traffic and when we'll actually arrive, but don't want to sit in the parking lot until then either.

  7. I know this is subjective. We've never gotten one of these emails before. Is it worth it to pay, 3 weeks out, or to just roll the dice and see what we get if we booked a guarantee inside cabin for free?  I had considered Covid and if one of us tested positive or both, and have read they move you anyway, so paying for a balcony just to have air if quarantined wouldn't make sense since they'd move us to a Covid area.

With 3 weeks to go, will another offer come in your experienced opinions?

  8. Have been looking to rent a vehicle for a port day. Advance Auto with Celestino looks promising, but paying cash is making us a bit uncomfortable. Usually our credit card offers rental car insurance. Our State Farm policy in the US doesn't cover the Caribbean. If you've used him, did he provide a certificate of his insurance? Any experience with issues in this situation?

  9. Hello. We will be on Nieuw Statendam in March. We'd like to book tours/spa/internet ahead of time. Does anyone know if there is a deadline to book before the cruise ie. a certain number of days ahead before the discount (premium internet) is gone? We'd like to make sure we test negative before we use our credit card on these. If we were to book ahead and had to cancel because of Covid, how quickly is the credit card refunded of all of the purchases?

Is it true that we can no longer bring cans of soda onboard? But, you can bring cans of water? (I didn't know they made canned water)

Thanks for helping a HAL newbie.
