I am bring my own cigars onboard. Will they allow me to use their cutter and what kind of lighters do they have available? Thanks

You can either go to the bar and use their cutter, or borrow it, and a torch lighter, from the server working the lounge.  And there will be plenty of others there.  You can borrow cutters and lighters from others

The only time I get free drinks in the casino on Princess cruises is during VIP cruises otherwise it is either pay or have a package. NCL is not alone in this

NCL may not be alone, but it's still a recent change and they could have done a much better job of letting people know. They are about the only line that I've heard that charges the admin fee for their bookings.   And I agree she could have picked up the tab for the one drink as a courtesy.  I've only ever sailed NCL (for 12 years) and the free drinks were a big draw.  I now have a MSC cruise booked in June and I'm doing a Carnival in November.  They both offer free drinks in the casino.  MSC is really inviting because they're not charging port fees and taxes.  Now, I'm not saying that I've given up on NCL just yet, but their decisions has at least open the door for the competition

For breakfast on the Seascape, we had made-to-order omelets. But I was always very dismayed at how "messy"/unsanitary the cooking area looked (every day). The cooks never bothered to clean the mess.

And the hollandaise sauce for the Eggs Benedict was "lumpy" every day (e.g., scrambled eggs - a culinary school 101 failure)

    For dinner, I don't remember made-to-order pasta. A lot of pre-made stuff

yes, the mess around that omelet station doesn't look appealing.  and maybe it's the angle of the picture, but it looks like the food on the surface is about to fall back into the containers

My last solo cruise I had two dinners for two.  Meaning, for each of the two dinners, I could take another traveler with me and have their meal covered.  Normally as a solo I will pre-book a table for 4.  I always make friends with other solos who will join me for specialty dining.

If you choose to eat alone, you only get one meal at dinner two separate times.

yes, this works real nice when you meet another solo platinum and above.  You can take each other and you end up with 4 meals

It depends but I have asked and gotten the following:

Two entrees at the same place for one dinner while solo (Onda on the Spirit)

Two meals at different times using one voucher because I was solo (Food Republic on the Bliss)

It's a bit much given the amount of food so I don't do it every time.

you were able to get two entrees at once???  You're the first person I've seen that has been able to get that.  congrats

I seem to be missing what this thread is suggesting. When I did a mock booking today on the NCL website, it still says "Excl. taxes, fees and port expenses, they will be added at checkout." after the Subtotal entry. Where should I be looking to see the taxes/fees?

we're talking about when you do your initial cruise search:

I have seen pasta stations on MSC ships in the buffet, but never actually tried them. Looked like they had various noodle types, various sauces, and various toppings and they would mix them all together for you?

yes, this is what I'm referring to.  It's one of my goto meals on NCL, especially when they have the pesto sauce out

If 4 people are cruising in one stateroom, can anyone apply CNC (I would assume, yes, but can't find any discussion of this)?

Or can just Passenger #1 or 2 apply them?

For Free at Sea, only 1st 2 cruisers get Specialty dinners so was wondering if something like that also applies to CNC? Like, maybe 3rd and 4th cruisers don't have same 'privileges'?

hmmm, good question.  I don't know the answer, but if for any reason they won't let passengers 2, 3, or 4 use the CNC, they can just transfer the cert to passenger 1

There usually is a made to order pasta station, but the options to interfere the cook with your special wishes are very limited. But you can expect to get a very nice pasta dish.

Thanks.  We got onto the omelet talk, but it's really the pasta and/or stir fry stations that I'm more interested in

  10. I took my first cruise 12 years ago.  Before then, I wasn't interested in cruising because I didn't want to "dress up" for dinner (or anything), and I didn't want to be assigned a dinner time and table with strangers.  I then heard about NCL and freestyle dining, and I said that is for me.  After 9 cruises with NCL, I'm branching out and trying new lines, starting with MSC in June.  I'm not looking forward to the assigned dining, but I'm going to at least give it a try.  I suspect I will eat most of my meals in the buffet.

This matter has now been resolved.  After more phone calls to NCL and Airtransat, i found out that Airtransat actually cancelled the flight, so NCL re-booked thru BA.  When i first called air transat they denied a refund, I called back today and asked to speak to a supervisor they decided to refund me.  took 3 calls to Airtransat but its resolved.  No fault on NCL.

    wonderful to hear.

Not a lawyer here-- but are you suggesting they give/transfer a stockholder benefit to Non-stockholders?

yes.  This is one of those weird ones with NCL.  The benefit is technically for the cabin so it's assigned to the cabin of the stockholder.  They will split the benefit between passengers one and two, though.  Not generally a problem with most as they are spouses or spouse-like, and probably have one shared account anyway.  It becomes an issue when friends are traveling together and the stockholder realizes that half their benefit has been given to the other person.  Now they have to work out a way to be "paid back"

I would argue that substituting one flight for another represents a cancellation. If you were booked on flight ABC123 and were moved to DEF456, your 1st flight was cancelled. That's how I'd look at it, anyway. At a minimum, my reservation was cancelled.

yeah, I agree.  but any reason to deny the claim..... 🙂

    Worth a try

Ours was turned around in about a week.

Since the 100 shares holding is jointly--NCL split the credit between us (husband/wife) for the cabin, $125/125 as its a longer sailing instead of just putting the $250 on the cabin. Same things for us yet they were attentive to the legalities I guess.

I've read that they always split the OBC, no matter if they shares are held jointly or not.

Interesting. I have. Pretty much every travel insurance policy I've bought has a provision for cancelled flights, which the baggage fees were a part of. I believe it would fall under the trip cancellation provision.

hmmm, interesting.  I never thought of it before, but would this be considered a cancelled flight for the purposes of insurance?  The flight itself was not cancelled.  The OP was changed to another flight.

Too tired to read thru these threads.  Thinking of booking a NCL cruise.  So if I purchase one of these, then I can apply it to my new booking to bring down the amount of my payment?  Or is it applied as an OBC?  How many can I use?  TIA

You can use one.  Yes, it lowers your payment amount.  Your cruise has to be at least 4 months out from the date you purchase the certificate

  17. wow.  thanks for everyone who pointed out no omelet station.  I just figured that was standard.  Not that I'm a huge omelet fan or anything, but I do usually get my scrambled eggs made to order if the eggs in the buffet are wet and runny

  18. for any of my casino friends that have done a 10 day sailing (or possibly longer) that is actually two cruises booked together, did you points accumulation continue for the duration of your time on the ship, or did it reset after the first leg?  My 10 day cruise is 1 3 day followed by a 7 day.  I know you can earn free cruises based on your points earned.
