  1. Thanks everyone for the helpful info, I have done research and the Legend does offer it however I still have to find out if Southwest is a participating airline. Again thank you!

Yes, Southwest does participate. Back in Dec 2012 we used it coming off the Valor or Destiny. We flew Southwest Fort Lauderdale to St. Louis and we met our bags at St. Louis with no issues. It was great because we had a later flight, (Something like 4:30 PM) so we didn't have to worry about dragging our bags with us all day.

(At the time FLL only would allow for bag check-in two hours before your flight. They now have the early bag check down stairs by the luggage carousel.)

  2. Anyone know how early they pick up in the FLL area? We have priority boarding so we want to be at POM around 11 AM. SAS doesn't start pickups in the FLL area until 11. Have had great luck with SAS, but would go with MJS if they can pick us up around 10 at the hotel. Have sent an email, but thought I would also ask on the boards.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. I noticed on the SAS website they no longer drop off passengers at certain hotels in Maimi, is there a list of where they do drop off? Still in the early stages of planning our next cruise and trying to figure out if we should just fly in to MIA or FLL and take a shuttle to out hotel. Looking at staying at the Hampton Inn near the port.

They have a list on their webpage that list all the hotels they service in Fort Lauderdale. Supposedly due to permit requirements they are no longer servicing any hotels or airports in Miami.

  4. Really depends on the port and what we have planned. Some places like San Juan it is not hard to just walk to and from the ship. Other ports the shopping and restaurants are farther away, so we just stay in port all day. I really dont think there is a right and wrong answer. Do what works for you that particular day and port.

  5. How did you like the Sheraton? I am torn between this hotel and one in Condado area.

    Thanks for your input!!

It was very nice. We loved the location. Lots of restaurant s within walking distance. Starbucks one block up and o er. CVS pharmacy two blocks to the west. Nice little casino in the lobby. Was able to walk to the Valor with no effort. We will definetly stay there again when we return to San Juan.

  6. When looking at hotels for our Dec cruise last year, I noticed that the Comfort Suites had recently been remodeled and was getting great reviews on Trip Advisor.

We ended up at the Residence Inn at Plantation due to getting a free stay certificate with Marriott. Loved the Residence Inn, but would have stayed at Comfort Suites had I not had a free stay at Marriott.

Please ignore my post as it was late, I was tired and thought the post was on Port Everglade for some reason. In the immortal words of Rosanna Rossanna Danna, "NEVER MIND!"

I do apologize for the bad post.

  7. This past September when we did the Valor cruise we stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan and went to the ship right after checking out at 11. We had about a 30 minute wait after checking-in before we boarded. We were zone 4. Once we got to our room at 1, we dropped our bags and went back into town for a while.

  8. Recent cruises in the last 18 months on the Valor, Destiny and Victory and was not asked to leave after any of the comedy shows. Usually got to the show about 15 -20 minutes early and was able to find a seat without issue. Most of the shows did end up as standing room only, so I suggest getting there early.

  10. Have you ever had wait staff in the MDR that were just fantastic and you will never forget?

Just off the Victory and our wait team was amazing. Cesar, Preval snd Kadir were beyond awesome. They were so efficient and friendly. They knew our names when we first sat down and provided excellent service all week long.

The last evening of our cruise we were telling Cesar that he was just as awesome as our first ever waiter on the Paradise, a gentleman named Hector. Cesar stated that Hector was the waiter he first worked with when he joined Carnival so many years ago. How amazing is that. We still have pictures of our girls with Hector back in 2001 and now the pictures of them and Cesar will go up on the wall next to them.

  11. AirTran doesn't fly to Hawaii.

You are correct, my bad. Southwest is rumored to be starting California to Hawaii flights in 2014/15. They have started taking delivery of the 737-800, which is open water certified. And their flight crews have started over water training. It is not a matter of if, but when.

Airtran is currently San Juan, Aruba, Bahamas and Mexico as non-domestic flights.

  12. My wife and I both have Southwest CC. We use them for our business travel and then use the points for our cruise trips. We normal sail out of Miami, so we fly in to Fort Lauderdale on SWA. Because of the Southwest/AirTran merger we were able to fly into San Juan for our Valor cruise. And we can fly to Hawaii since AirTran flies there. Have been very happy with the card and the easy use of the points.

  13. While we don't normally decorate our door, we will on our Christmas Cruise this year. We bought a roll of wrapping paper that says NICE and a roll that says NAUGHTY. The nice paper will be used on our door and the naughty paper will be used on our daughter's cabin door. Just something fun for Christmas.

  14. What's wrong with flying into MIA instead of FLL? It is a straight shot from the airport via taxi or Limo to the cruise dock. Take 836 east to Biscayne Blvd to NE 6th St, Port Blvd to your ship.

We fly into FLL instead of MIA because we fly Southwest. My wife and I fly SWA for business and rack up the points. It has been years since we have paid to fly for a cruise.

We have been using SAS for the past couple years and have been very satisfied with them.

  15. Make sure it does not have pliers. I had forgotten a Leatherman in my bag and it was confiscated in San Juan. Not because of the knife blade, but because of the pliers and screwdrivers in it. I was told hand tools are not allowed on the ships. Luckily it was something that a vendor had given me, so it was no big loss.
