  1. There is no regulation or law preventing them from emailing you with commercial offers. You are in a relationship with them through use of the boards here. If you ask them to stop they will, and they provide the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the emails for compliance with all the anti-spam (or "UCE") laws in the countries they are in.

There's an old saying about the Internet: If you are not paying for the product then YOU are the product.

I get enough value out of CC to get the occasional email and see the ads on the site.

Didn't mind the email. In fact, served as a reminder to see if any cruises I'm watching were "in sale." And know to stop if I don't want.

Just thought the company recommending a particular agency and at same time enforcing a rigorous ban on the customer in the forum even discussing the pros and cons of various agencies was remarkable.

  2. Not trying to get around Forum regulations. I did quote the Cruise Critic email, though my intent was not to recommend an agency. And I didn't mind the email - might have been given information I didn't know. No agency wins every time.

However, my question relates to CC using my email address for commercial purposes, as I suspect the email was probably paid advertising. Or perhaps they sold my email to an agency, who provided a press release.

    Blurred lines, I guess.

Just made me go "hmmm.". No different than if a cruiseline introduced a new policy.

I appreciate the peer-to-peer value of the forum. It is often helpful, sometimes humorous, and offers all kinds of perspectives.

  3. We just got off of the Coral on Saturday. The coffee in the Horizon Court buffet is made from Nescafé syrup (or concentrate if you will). I am not a coffee drinker, but me darling wife is and she did not like the Nescafé coffee at all. We bought a coffee card for c. $35 (including gratuity). It is good for unlimited brewed coffee at the International Cafe which my wife loved. The card had fifteen punches which can be used for specialty coffees only on the cruise on which it is purchased. Any unused punches may be used for brewed coffee only on future cruises.
I believe you meant to say the unused punches may be used on future cruises for specialty coffee.

(Brewed coffee on future cruises, which is complimentary at the IC with the card on original cruise will be assessed a punch on future cruises)

  4. GoA2B is a very helpful app that quickly list all the various Uber, Lyft, Taxi options/$$$ and time to get to you. You don't have to look at each individually. Found Lyft Line a great deal from MIA to hotel to port and then return last month.

Lyft Line gives them the option to take another rider. However, in reality, your luggage and the size of vehicle keeps their options limited.

  5. Our Medicare Advantage (UHC) plan treats an onboard dr. visit as an emergency room visit. They reimburse minus copay ($75 for us). Aon picks up the rest. Curiously, MA also paid for a knee brace but denied $6 in pain meds because Dr.'s # was not on Bill. Aon picked it up.

There has been a problem in the past with procedures not coded to the U.S. system. Just left them deny and collect thru Aon.

Note: My experience with standard Medicare with a relative is they routinely do not pay for international, an exception being close by U.S. though offshore. Hard to prove location of service in that case.

  6. Whatever card you use, check for benefits. When people planning a trip to Ireland in conjunction with a cruise, rental cars were cheap but insurance was very high. Read somewhere to check my card benefits. Sure enough, decline rental waiver and they would be primary.

First time in 40 years of rental I had damage (wheel rim scuffs- ever drive in IR). Made claim when I got home, had a check for $433 in less than 2 weeks. Thanks, Costco Citicard. No annual fee and 3% cash back on travel. Also good for travel interruptions, certain trip cancellation, baggage delay, price rewind, etc.

  7. I would think demand over the next few months from some Florida residents might be lower as they take care of personal matters and schedule repairs. Don't know what percentage of Florida bookings are after final payment. I suspect it is somewhat higher than other states. May be a demographic the cruiselines may not be able to count on in the near term - resulting in lower fares.

I have read some lines are considering sailing not full vs cutting fares below a fixed discount.

  8. Anthem, these are our ports for March 2019. Any idea if RCCL will waive the $100 per person change fee considering most of the ports are pretty damaged and even with over 500 days before we sale may not be up to par.

We went to Alaska this past May and really loved it, thinking of going back in 2019. If we have a year like this year next year with more hurricanes might be best now to plan for Alaska again. Any idea when those sailing dates will be out for Alaska 2019?

Four of your six ports are open now. St. Maarten may not be a destination even by March, 2019, for your cruise. Probably San Juan will be up in a few months.

But you are way outside of final - is there a non-refundable deposit on your fare?

  9. If you go on the CC news there is a list of ports. St. Martin's airport is open air transports are flying in. The runway was not badly damaged also it stated that the cruise port was in fair shape. I think in 2-4 months they will be up and running. Economically they have to, mabe I am an optimist. The hotels are worrisome.

Yes, you are hyper-optimistic with a 2-4 month timeframe. And I, too, am an optimist. Maybe a year?

  10. Difference is I do not choose to spend my leisure time/money is South Central - or other places where gang warfare is an issue. Too many other places for the present. Norway was nice. Hawaii is beautiful. Alaska, New England, Pacific NW. Tahiti, New Zealand.

FWIW, I travel to some international places for business I would not choose for vacation, though they are beautiful.

  11. What the fire?!?!?

If that is the example and you are still sailing with Carnival, I'm baffled. That is an on-the-water emergency that could happen at anytime and if that is a concern, sailing with them seems odd. However, I'm talking about the weather. Everyone fails to mention that Carnival is not the only one that can stop the cruise. The Governor can, the port can, heck the President can. Soooo...if the conditions are that bad, there will be redundant controls to make sure a stupid decision is not made.

Don't wait for others to make a decision. You can make a decision to pull the plug.

Double-check your insurance for weather-related reimbursement.

Regardless, use it as a chance to teach the kids how to deal with disappointment. That will last them a lifetime.

  12. Ahhh, yes. The armchair CEOs are out in full force acting as if they know how to plan for contingencies better than a cruise line that has decades of experience dealing with situations like this.

It makes for a good chuckle and provides some good comic relief in a serious situation like this.

I had just said this to my wife when I saw your post. Agree. Decision-making logistics for several ships of people coming/going is above our paygrade for most of us.

Turning red with a little vein popping out is a behavior I've seen in airports when a flight is delayed/cancelled. Not healthy or helpful.
