  1. We also had a member of the CD staff on one cruise who was really fun. I believe his name was Mark but, again, no last name. I also gave him extra credit with Princess as I believe that sort of feedback can be valuable for the staff. This guy was crazy and really fun and funny. Very... flamboyant. :D He seemed to really love his job and was fantastic at it. We had some great interactions.

Could it have been Matt34? Have been lucky enough to do 3 with him and find him so entertaining, clever, sweet, and funny! Would love to cruise with him again.

  2. Someday we'd love to meet up with these two folks again. Both made our cruise (different cruises) exceptional. Needless to say we turned in the "made a difference" cards and also mentioned them by (first) name on the post cruise survey. Additionally I sent separate email to Princess with the cruise info and their names to let the powers that be know that these individuals went out of their way to insure we had a fantastic cruise. Just would love to meet up with them again someday.

  3. I read a review from last year that went to Orkney. It sounded great.

Iced tea is not normally served in England. When I lived in London, I'd order a cup of hot tea and cups of ice to brew my own. Iced tea is still served on the ship, of course. But it's made from concentrated syrup and isn't too good. I used to drink it, but now my doctor limits my caffeine. I get one cup of green tea in the morning and switch over to decaf and herbal teas the rest of the day. I make decaf iced tea at the buffet drink stations.

Matt said he'd be on this ship for another couple of cruises before moving to the Royal. I'm glad he's getting promoted. He was a fun trivia host. We caught a bit of the Yes/No game tonight and enjoyed him there as well. He did not say what his contract on it would be through. I'll try to remember to ask when I see him again.

One thing we learned tonight is definitely don't get a taxi to take you from London to Southampton as our tablemates did. It was over 200 pounds. Somehow they managed to get in a tour of the Tower of London before leaving for the cruise. They had flown in Wednesday morning, changing planes three times to get there--Albuquerque to L.A., to Phoenix, to Atlanta, to Heathrow.

Thank you for the Matt34 response. I am interested in how long he will be on the Royal. Looking to book another cruise.

  4. Excited to find a live thread for this cruise. Did this cruise July 24 and loved almost every minute of it. What I didn't love was our very short stay in Dublin which I notice will not happen for you since you are doing an overnight there. Traffic was horrific so getting anywhere was near impossible during our short stay. Checked our itinerary to see what is different and it appears you are missing Liverpool. We sure did love that stop too! Enjoy, and I look forward to reliving our wonderful cruise through you.

Just got off the Caribbean princess yesterday thought the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Also liked the new World Fresh Market (Horizon Buffet) usually don't eat dinner in buffet but think we ate there at least 3 times. Thought it was very good. Did a few buffets on the Ruby in April. Didn't think it was very good at all.

  6. Do you mind sharing your alternate option? We will be a traveling group of 6 adults with 1 cruise port day in Edinburgh on 8/1/2018. We are also interested in a tour that would pick us up at the cruise port terminal and take us to see St. Andrews. We will only be in Port 6A-4P. Any suggestions for private small group tours to St. Andrews for 6-8 people?

    Thanks

We used G and S tours. It's a tender port so you need to get off promptly. We stopped at a distillery, had time for lunch in St. Andrews, and a 1-hour tour of St. Andrews and time to walk around. It was an all-day tour and really enjoyed it.

  7. Timberbush definitely picks up at the port as I was chatting to one of their guides on Tuesday and they had quite a big party. Assume it just applies to their tour of St Andrews? If you want to DIY I personally wouldn't walk up to the slip road at the Forth Bridge to catch the bus as suggested by Trevor. (sorry Trevor!!!) It's a fair trek and up a really steep hill. There's also so many roadworks going on up there it's a bit hairy for pedestrians. But that's me!

There's a direct train on a Sunday from Dalmeny to Leuchars which cruisers on 9th July will be able to take. You're not on that one by any chance? However it does also involve a walk to start with. All trains connect with a bus which will take you from Leuchars which is the nearest station to St Andrews or as Trevor says pick up another taxi.

If it's not a Sunday the best bet would be to get taxi across the river to Inverkeithing station and again follow Trevor's instructions. There's a taxi rank directly across from the port gates or maybe you could ring one of the numbers given above and book a taxi once you're on the tender. I also use 0130-555-5555 and 0131-777-7777 who are cheaper than the black cabs and are equally reliable IMO.

However it's all a bit complicated and the fact is Princess offers an afternoon tour to St Andrews so my advice would be to take that and enjoy a leisurely morning in the pretty village of South Queensferry. St Andrews is not a big town and you would certainly get an impression of it in a couple of hours.

They responded that they didn't pick up from the port so that is confusing. I did see the Princess excursion but wanted to do a morning tour not afternoon. They don't return to the ship til 615.

  8. We are cruising the British Isles this month and wondering if it's possible to see St. Andrews from Edinburgh. I tried booking what was called a shore excursion with Timberbrush but they don't leave from the port but rather a place about 30 minutes away. Opted out of it but would still like to go if possible.

  9. As the Eagle has posted, Viator is an agency (consolidator).

They have their uses, but for your transfer it's simpler and cheaper to book direct with a transfer operator or public transport or ship's transfer bus.

    JB :)

What would you recommend for London Victoria Station area hotel to Southampton? I'm in need of that option next month for 2.
