  1. I've spoken to 2 different people at RCI regarding recommended dress code for the main dining rooms and/or Chops/Giovanni's Table.

One person said... men can wear nice dress shorts with golf type shirts or collared shirts..no jeans, cut offs, tank tops. resort casual is recommended. Chops etc would be long pants with a sport jacket. Just nice dress shirts, no tie.

Then I was told today that even in the main dining room, they prefer sport jackets, dress pants, maybe a tie or suit if desired. NO shorts in any ship restaurant unless it's the buffet. Really??

I'm reaching out to previous passengers on the Adventure of the Seas. People that have been there and saw what fellow cruisers actually walk in wearing to the MDR and upscale dining venues.

Just wondering if they "bend the rules " as to what's acceptable especially on the first night because they know some passengers won't get their luggage by dinner time so they "let" you wear shorts in the MDR. They did this on NCL. Thoughts???

Thanks for any help on this matter!!!

Dress codes don't matter. I'm just off Adventure. We only ate in the MDR once (my time dining on the second formal night - otherwise it was Windjammer). As we were waiting to be seated I counted at least 3-4 people walking out of the dining room in shorts or jeans (adults not children). There is absolutely no rules on dress code, period. Wear what you want.

  2. Ship UPS/FedEx and notify the hotel ahead of time. They can give you tracking and an ETA. Enjoy the B2B

Remember that shipping UPS/FedEx doesn't guarantee anything except that if your package doesn't arrive on time, you don't have to pay for it. Odds are it will get there OK but if I were the traveler and the medical supplies were vital to my existence, I would carry them with me.

  3. My sister and I are just off Adventure. We got off in Nassau and simply tooled around the main area for about 3-4 hours (in and out of stores, Pirate museum, stopped for lunch). He has a small collapsible scooter and she was fine all day. Just plugged in every night and was good for the next day.

  4. We've cruised NCL, Princess, Celebrity and RCI - all in handicapped balcony cabins. We're just off Adventure of the Seas and I took some pictures of cabin 7300 (pardon the mess). Plenty of floor space, no barriers for either the bathroom or balcony. Location was good to the elevators. I feel the newer RCI ships (we've done Oasis and Allure) are great for accessibility. On Adventure all of the public bathrooms had automatic doors but they only worked about 50% of the time.

  5. Our travel agent booked us a Handicap junior Suite on the Radiance. It was the last suite in our catergory so she booked it. I’m feeling a little guilty about booking it without a handicap but we really wanted a Junior suite for this cruise. Any thoughts?

I travel with my sister who requires a HA cabin. I find it highly suspect that your TA's only option was a HA JS. Never in all my years of cruising has a HA JS ever been available (and no regular JS available) and I generally have to book a minimum 6 months in advance (usually more) just to get a balcony HA cabin.

  6. Is there anyone out there who has been sleeved?

Sort of (DS = switch + sleeve). Do you have questions?

Only you control what you eat. If you're worried, stay away from the buffets. Dining room should be able to accommodate any concerns you might have.

I had my surgery 15 years ago and have cruised regularly for the last 10 years. Never an issue.

  7. I know this is a Breakaway thread but Pier 88/90 related. I think we are going to drive in from NJ day of cruise and pay the $40 per day to park at the pier. DH is mobility challenged and we ordered an ECV for the ship. He can walk from the parking deck to check-in and will get a temporary wheelchair if we need to.

I saw this question on another thread, but cant find it. For ease of getting from NJ to NYC on a Saturday is it better to take the

GWB and go south, or take the Lincoln Tunnel and go to 12th ave. Two seniors wanting to avoid the crazy taxi drivers.

On a Saturday, and if it's early enough before matinee time, you should be fine with the tunnel. We've parked at the pier and there's plenty of handicapped parking (if you have a placard) so hopefully your DH won't have to walk too far.

  8. Precruise pricing for my trip next month is $45/person, but every other week (or so it seems) there's a sale and it goes down to $42. I've been following it for a long time and these are the only two prices I've seen. But the advice you received is best - if you are set on buying the package, go ahead and do it. When (not if) it goes on sale, cancel and repurchase at the lower price. You can't go wrong.

I bought it for $48 but then over July 4th it dropped to $42. I cancelled and then repurchased at the lower price. Only downside is that the new charge hits the credit card immediately while the refund took about 3 days to show up. After the holiday it went back up and is now $48 again. Just keep an eye on your credit card.

  9. Thanks. That makes me feel better. We have cruised before, just not with RC. In fact we just got off Carnival's Horizon a couple weeks ago. I know some people just like to complain & I do take things with a grain of salt, but just seeing so many bad ones really had me thinking!

Ironically I've never cruised Carnival because of everything negative I've heard about them. We haven't been on RC in 4 years and we're sailing in 11 days.

Generally people speak louder when they're not happy then when they are happy.

You'll have a great time on your RC cruise!!

  10. Article in the Washington Post says it was Allure (quoted by a RCI spokesperson). They were in Roatan. The article talked about a cruise-sponsored excursion but I can't figure out from the article if that was the case for this couple. She got stuck on the zip line and then they sent the husband. Because she was stuck he slammed into her. Both were alive when they got to the hospital, but evidently he died from his injuries. I've never done a zip line but evidently this is standard practice to have multiple people on the same zip line starting with a staggered time. Guess no communication telling the start that someone was stuck. I'm sure that will come out in the investigation.

    Very tragic.

  11. I suspect that only you (or she) can answer that question because her symptoms are personal to her. I do have a very good friend with Lyme disease - it went undiagnosed for years so she has some serious issues. She cruises at least two times a year with her family. I think like with any disease or chronic illness (my sister has MS), you do what you can and try to enjoy the rest.

You mentioned a couple of things she's nervous about. Unless you're going through a storm, generally movement is minimal. What about the food is she concerned about? Is she on a special diet? You can make special arrangements through the Special Needs department.

Suggest she have a conversation with her doctor.

  12. I bought drink packages a couple weeks ago and the refreshment package price dropped $8/day with the "sale." We only got that package for my husband, but when I bought it, it was $26/day, so I'm going to call and refund it then repurchase at the lower price and save myself the $32+ 18% gratuity charge.

They have the most screwed up pricing methods I've ever seen.

I called this morning. Drink package purchased last week was $48/pp. Mine only went down $3 but it's still $25 each. PITA - they cancel and then you buy it at the new rate. Of course the "cancellation" takes days to hit your CC, while the buy hits immediately. Just give me OBC and we're good!
