Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I keep seeing people saying things like "there's a few ships in that port on the same date". Where can I find reliable port calendar info? Using google I ofund a few that have given me conflicting info. For example, we'll be Arriving at Tortola for one day on March 14th. It looks like it might just be two ships there that day?
  2. PThank you for that. Guess I didn't pay enough attention. I will saw, however, I didn't think we paid the full balance yet. Is that possible if our cruise is in less than 1 month?
  3. Since I have grown to distrust some info received from Celebrity phone reps figured I'd check here. Called FBC just now to see if we could move our flights up to arrive earlier and without even looking up my reservation the rep flat out told me any change to flights 30 days prior to the embarking day is $200. He said regardless if the alirline would charge a fee. Is this right? I thought this was just for the cruise itself.
  4. this really worries me as we've booked half of our group via celebrity for, as you said it, the price. cr*p!
  5. Thanks all. Yea Oceanview is just fine but not the same experience as the MDR. Even if I get them fed they'll probably be too tired to go to the MDR at 830. Will try for the day of boarding and hope for the best! Thanks all
  6. Thanks Northern Aurora. Good to know. And actually nice to see they uphold the rules and push back. So many times on our past celebrity cruises it seems the staff is reluctant to dare tell any passenger to follow the rules.
  7. Good point. However its still strange they made it a "premium" location when it seemed like nobody ever used it (but me) on cruises years ago.
  8. Excellent! Thank you. 2 hours on the phone today most of it on hold and a surly rep told me it was the other way and there was no other option. I knew right away I wasted 2 hours and should've just come here. We've never had or even seen an upper berth. Should be interesting to see which of our sons wins the battle to sleep there!
  9. Does it help if you booked flights through the celebrity website? Currently we're booked to fly direct from PHL to SEA arriving noon one day prior to cruise embarkation.
  10. I feel for you. Spent 2 hours on the phone today 98% of it on hold with no resolution to any of my issues. Eventually rep put me on hold and never came back. I hung up after 30 mins. (Sorry I didn't add anything to solve your problem)
  11. Over the years on the M class ships I've loved Michael's club. Excited there's one on our trip on the Solstice next month but I think it's only for Retreat or Concierge guests or something? If so I'm bummed. How well do they check ie could I sneak in and enjoy the ambiance?
  12. Well be staying in room 6151veranda on the Solstice next month. How do I find out if the configuration is the one with the bed by the entrance door or by the balcony. Sounds petty but we'd much prefer the bed by the door and sofa seating area by the balcony. When the bed is there it totally ruins the balcony area. Strangely I think all of our 8 or 10 celebrity cruises over 20 years have been configured our preferred way. Asking bc the picture online shows it the "other" way. I did check the S class spreadsheet and didn't see our room listed.
  13. So we're taking the Soltice to Alaska next month. When I made reservations the only seating available was 830. We're waitlisted for select. I'm concerned bc we have an 8 year old who will likely chew my arm off if he has to wait until 830. And we're coming from the east coast so that's like 1130. What are the chances 1) we get our waitlist or 2) the day of boarding we go to guest services and they let us switch or 3) we just show up earlier?
  14. Heres what it says on the celebrity website FAQ: "When calculating which days you can take your test, be aware that the day you set sail is not counted as one of the days, unless the country of embarkation stipulates that the test be taken within 24 hours of arrival." That's great to know they're available 24/7. I think we have a 30 minute layover at one point lastly, yes, the above plan means we'd fly into SEA the day of the cruise. It's only a 2 hr flight and there are multiple. But yes I get it. More risky. It's also a 12 hr drive. Not something I'd like to do.
  15. Oh yea. Amazingly I'm also on the Amtrak riders forum discussing the same. So our train arrives in San Francisco 410pm Thursday. The cruise leaves on Friday. To your point these trips can be notoriously delayed. Sometimes like 17 hours. The folks on the amtrak forum report it's late 18% of the time. And not a typical route with delays usually caused by the freight trains that own the tracks. So...our plan right now is to get off early in Sacramento. Supposed to arrive 2pm on Thursday the day before the cruise. We would plan an early AM flight like 7am out of Sacramento. 2 hr flight to SEA. Even if the train is 12 hrs late wet be fine. can deal with 13 hrs late. The Sacramento Airport is 15 mins from the amtrak station. Even so we're weighing the discomfort of worrying with the fun of the trip. If I and my son could pull off the ultimate travel trip : long distance overnight train with 7 day cruise our utopia would be complete:-) but want to bw realistic. Thanks so much for such prompt and insightful responses!
