  1. I replied to you on that Dominica Thread Jackie.

Yes I would use sea shoes, your nice new trainers would get muddied up. Some of the stones that lead up to the waterfalls get slippy too so you need the grip.

Have a great time Linda.... I know you will :D

We are off to Albufeira on Sunday for a week.

  2.

Disappointed by HELSINKI, not that there was anything wrong I just thought it wasn't a very attractive city. If I went again I would do an excursion.

There are some nice parts of Helsinki, The Botanical Gardens were a surprise, and the architecture of the Train Station inside and out was worth seeing.

Kruz, you did the right thing from Alexandria, loads on our cruise walked out of the port gate, got hassled for 2 minutes and walked straight back on the Ship!!

  3. Leave the bags at UK airport check-in desk and they will automagically appear outside your cabin anything up to 2 hours after you get onboard.

Don't think they do the little books now, might depend on how you booked. Through tinterwebs it's all done electronically.

Don't know about your cabins, although I doubt it will be noisy

  4. It's possibly going to be a fault on the extension lead or one of the appliances. No-one can forsee this.

The only other explanation would be having too many high power devices plugged in at once, 3 or 4 phone/laptop/tablet chargers would not overload the socket, but having a kettle and 2 or 3 other devices like hairdryers would do.

We all wouldn't overload sockets at home, so shouldn't do it at sea.

I know what you mean about losing power at sea, a bit un-nerving. It must have been awful on that Carnival one last year that were without for days, they were sleeping on deck because they had no air con.

  5. Everyone is different, you need to find one you like and stick to it.

I can use pretty much anything including the 99p small tubes from home bargains, however DW doesn't get on with Ambre Solaire and sticks to Piz Buin.

Home bargains and B&M stores sometimes have some good deals on both Ambre Solaire and Piz Buin. Can be as low as £4-5 sometimes, when the same stuff in boots/superdrug may be £15 ish.

Will look out for the tesco ones, thanks for the heads up hammers.

  6. Seeing as I suggested it I had better have a stab, don' t know if I can find a fulll five though:rolleyes:

    1 Alexandria, Egypt:

What a dump, litter everywhere, pestered as soon as you get out of the port area. How many times do I have to tell you I don't want a Taxi, Horse and trap, Guide, help to cross the road...arrgh. Never felt really safe there, I know it's their way of life but I didn't want to see live chickens and cute bunny rabbits in cages outside filthy Butchers shops. Maybe we just walked though the wrong area but it was very intimidating being stared at by everyone as though you were from a different planet.

    2 Port Said, Egypt:

After the experience in Alexandria we never got off. We knew it was just a stopping off point to visit the Pyramids, but looking at the market stalls you have to run the gauntlet of to leave the port area made us decide to stay onboard and enjoy Celebration with the 200 or so of us that didn't do a trip.

3 Safaga, Egypt: (hmm, is there a pattern forming here?)

Nothing much here except the view of the cement factory. Like Port Said, it's a means to an end, somewhere to dock close (ish) to the Valley of the Kings.

    4 Casablanca, Morrocco:

The Mosque is impressive, but that's about it. Another scruffy African City.

So many on here have suggested the trip to Rabat, so I think we will do that next time we are there in April. It's a massive container port and it's quite relaxing on deck watching all the to-ing and fro-ing as they move the containers around.

    5 La Romana, Dominican Republic:

Not much to see here on the changeover day of a 2 week cruise on the Destiny. You could do a trip to the Bounty commercial Island, but not much else. We had a walk around for an hour then got back onboard.

  7. Has as been said many times, statistics can prove anything.

Suppose the flight should take 4 hours, the airline, in its brochure says its 5 hours. When it lands at 4.5 hours, the airline says its 30 minutes early not 30 minutes late.

Has anybody else noticed that the flight time published in the brochure is 30 minutes more than the pilot tells you it is on the aircraft.

This is not just one airline but all I have been on in recent years.

Spot on there.... Clive and Anne

Every Ryanair flight I have been on plays that fanfare even if they are 15 minutes late.

  8. Here goes....

Not in any particular order but Rome has to be number one:

Rome: There is just so much to see, we walked miles.

Istanbul: A vibrant City with a real buzz, loads to see again, Hagia Sophia, and Sulemani Mosque are my favourites.

Venice: Great place to explore, good to see the normal hustle and bustle of the locals going about their business in the smaller streets, it's not all about the tourist hot spots.

Stockholm: Great buildings to see and you can wander around Gamla old town, then over to Skeppsholmen for the greener part of town. The sail out is amazing.

Tallinn: Another great walkable City, looking at the Nevsky Cathedral you could almost be in St Petersburg. Holds a place in my heart because I spent my 50th birthday here drinking the excellent Lager.

Kruz... why oh why did you limit us to 5, there are so many I love... Barcelona, Cadiz, Lisbon, St Petersburg, Bergen, I even liked Helsinki for it's plain architecture and awesome train station.

PS. We should do a worst port thread when it goes quiet on here again.

  9. I think the wind tunnel effect was due a lot to the side curtains on Destiny.

Piazza San Marco doesn't seem too bad, as it's more open at the sides towards the back.

I would think that the engines on Majesty are a lot more efficient and cleaner than on Destiny, hopefully no soot problems then. It was really bad on the Destiny at times.

  10. On FB today it says "we're building a new buffet on deck 10" and "work has started on the new sun deck on deck 11".

    I wasn't far off then...:)

We never sat on that deck behind the funnel so don't know about the soot there, we did use the small sundeck on deck 8 that is at the back but never had any soot issues.

Have people ever complained on here about soot on that rear deck 11?

I don't recall anyone mentioning it.

  11. It's hard to tell off those pictures but I don't think its the buffet at the front of the ship, those windows at the front are really sloping.

It could be an extension to the Piazza San Marco on deck 10, this would give more room for tables and also shade the kids club area better.
