  1. Good luck with the Monday cable car thing, sometimes these places will open when they are normally closed if they know a ship is coming in.

We actually walked all the way up to the cable car station and then got the bus back, it's a long walk. It's quite steep in places up at Erice too.

We did the Pompeii shorex from Naples. We try if possible to do stuff under our own steam but sometimes do the shorex if the DIY looks a lot of faffing about with syncing buses and trains. When doing a shorex to a place like Pompeii or Ephesus you get a guide, this can add a lot to the experience as you find out loads of things you would never have thought of. EG. The gaps in the stepping stones over the streets in Pompeii are set to the correct distance to enable the carts to pass through.

It was our first time in Rome, so did the Rome on your own trip, it was good as you get ages there, next time will do the train into Rome and just not pack as much in the day.

  2. 1. Don't miss any of the showteam's shows, they are excellent.

    2. Four Seasons MDR is cosier than Seven Seas. (we preferred the atmosphere)

    3. Buffet can be busy and get crowded at peak times, you may have to carry your tray down the stairs to the Royal Observatory bar.

    4. More snack type food is served at Piazza San Marco at the aft of the Ship, Burgers, Pizza, Ribs etc.

    5. There is a small sundeck on deck 8 aft, often missed by many.

    6. If you go to one of the MDR's after 7.30-7.45pm, you will probably end up queueing.

    7. Don't forget one of the MDR's will be open for lunch if you want a sitdown served meal, allow around one hour. (sometimes it's nicer than the evening meal)

    8. Don't be put off if you cannot get facing the front of the stage in the Jubilee Lounge, the seats at the side of the stage are Ok as the performers work the sides too.

    9. Take clothes that are a size bigger to wear towards the end of the cruise:D

  3. Some good news there, second small bag sounds good.

We checked in online with Jet2 the minute it opened and were allocated seats together on both legs of the journey. We declined the "pay extra to sit together" option and still got sat together. Maybe it was because we were first in with the booking? Last time we flew with them we were apart.

We are off to Albufeira for half term, Jet2 flights and 4* Hotel booked through Alpharooms. A good price considering it's half term.

  4. We have tried many brands over the years and ended up using Kwells as the ones that best suit us.

Travel-eez totally zonked me out, we don't use them now:rolleyes:

However, on the last cruise P&O sold us some of these:

These are the best we have ever had, no drowsiness at all.

Not saying they will suit everyone, but they work for us and we will try and source some on the high street before we next go.

As Spike Milligan once said... "the best cure for sea sickness is to sit under a tree"

  5. Breakfast: Sirens on the Dream

Lunch: Majesty MDR, a really good Fish and Cheese Sandwich, sounds disgusting but was very good.

Dinner, a close call between Orion on Dream (with Manny as Waiter) or Four Seasons on Majesty (Leo as Waiter), Majesty food was better.

Bar: Sky Bar on Destiny, No contest....

Staff: All Thomsons Staff are fantastic.

Show: Africa, best viewed from the balcony on the Celebration.

Showteam: last Summer on Majesty, they were something special.

    CD: Gavin Carroll.

Sail in: 4:30am Geirangerfjord. Even if it was on a P&O ship....

Sail out: Got to be Geirangerfjord. With Stockholm a close second. (cheating again, this was on NCL)

  6. Only done these two:

Casablanca: We just walked to the mosque along the main coast road, this is impressive to see, but the rest of what we saw looked scruffy. When we are there next it will be a sunbathing day or a trip to Rabat.

Cadiz is lovely.... very walkable and loads to see.

It's great if you like Churches, some are really nice inside. We didn't do the Cathedral (€5 each) but the small Church in the same square is gorgeous inside, don't miss it. We also found the Holy Cave Church (€3 each) which has some Goya paintings inside, it's small but we thought it was well worth the entrance fee.

It's on a street called Rosario, and you would not think it was a Church from the outside. It's worth tracking down though, it took us ages to find it.

This map gives some good walks, but it's easy just to do your own thing with the map.

When we are there in April, I think we will head for Seville on the train if time permits.

  7. Never had a problem with the kids on Thomsons, they are well looked after in the club and you only tend to see them when they march around singing the club song. NI and Scotland break up for summer earlier than England and Wales do, we met some really pleasant Children the last 2 years in early July.

If you look at some of the older P&O threads there have been problems with "feral" (their word not mine) teenagers running riot in the past. Staff and security seem to turn a blind eye.

  8. St Lucia: Another vote for Cosol, a cracking tour. There is a beach about half an hour walk from Castries towards the small airstrip, not the best beach or the nicest walk but it's OK.

St Kitts: Brimstone Hill Fortress for me. No need to do the tour or get a taxi if you are fit enough to walk up that hill, you can get a bus that will drop you off on the main road and it will take around 30-40 minutes to walk up.

Antigua: Another vote for Valley Church beach using the bus.

Tortola: If you have not seen the Island before then do one of the big open sided truck tours, some amazing views and some time on Cane Garden Beach.

However, Virgin Gorda Baths should not be missed, the Thomsons shorex is about £8-10 more than doing it from the quayside but worth it as you have the comfort blanket in case the boat does not make it back.

  9. We are on Majesty 10th April for 2 weeks, I would think the weather will be colder than over Israel way, but hopefully in the low to mid 20's.

We are doing it mainly for the itinerary, Cadiz and Lisbon are lovely, and easy to DIY. This will be good for you if on a budget.

If you go to Israel you will not want to miss the trip to Jerusalem and Bethlehem so this will cost you around £100 each. Well worth the money though.

We like the Majesty, others on here are not so keen though for their various reasons.

As Linda says, you need a plus cabin. Deck 3 was fine for us last time and we are booked on 4 this time. I suggest a midships cabin in case the route up to Lisbon gets a bit choppy.
