  1. Princess calls their outdoor screen Movies Under the Stars, and it is commonly referred to as MUTS. In the evenings, the pool loungers are set up with cushions and blankets for MUTS. During the day it is just the usual pool loungers.

I do not know specific movies/events playing on Royal. Maybe you can do a search using the name MUTS or the longer name spelled out. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. Do they have something every night out there?

  2. Will be on the Royal Princess next month. We like to sit somewhere other than near a pool. What deck on the Royal are there deck chairs with shade? Don't mind people walking by or anything. Just want to sit and read looking at the water. Thanks in advance.

  3. We always book specialty dining the first night. Yes, the suites get it free that night, but it's never been a problem for us to board and book that night for the time we want. We call as soon as the DINE line opens at noon.

They never seem to pick up before, so we don't bother. Sometimes we stop by the restaurant itself and if someone is there, we make our RSVP.

You should be fine to book upon boarding for your husband's birthday.

Oh and you cannot book the first night on line (ahead of time).

Yes, I tried online and saw you can't but will take your advice and try when we get on board. Thanks

  4. thanks for your posts. looks great. have a question. was there a long walk from the ship to anything when in port? to the shops, bus etc. could you get a tram as some ports/ships provide? thanks. my husband has a walking disability. not wheelchair bound but can't walk far. looks like our royal trip 2/8 is the same as yours. any info would be helpful. thanks.

Would love to know too as we'll be on the same ship/itinerary in March and have the same problem. Thanks.

  5. on the ROYAL they also have the super Tuscan wine dinner held in Sabatini ( they close it to public that night) I think $60 p/p and it is amazing food and wine parings. We did it last December and sailed with our daughter and a friend of hers. They sang happy birthday to her and brought her a cake. It was the night of her actual birthday.

Thanks. Just noticed when I went on to make a reservation, you can't make one for the first night which is the night we were going to celebrate. Bummer.

  6. Winemakers Dinner is great ($40) but it’s only available on the Royal & Regal & don’t know which ship you’re sailing.

The Ultimate Balcony Dinner ($100/couple) is another great option but with 4 dining you’d need a large balcony.

I enjoy Sabatini’s & Crown Grill but for a special event would chose the CG because we prefer their entrées. Ambiance was similar & we usually have great service.

Thank you. Would love the winemakers dinner possibly but haven't seen it on the website. Will look again.

  7. would you be open to celebrating with other people for a 'different' dining experience?

I'm thinking Captains Table or Winemakers Dinner, and we've never been to either and have no clue if they are offered on your cruise...

Not sure but I'll certainly look into it. Thanks

  8. Since Royal was in the title I will go with that. Personally my DW and I tend toward the Crown Grill. It is Princess’s version of an upscale steak house. She is not a steak eater but they have both lobster and sea bass as selections, as well as other non beef items. The sides and soup/salad are a step up as well. I am sure others will step in and prefer Sabatini’s. It really depends on your preferences. Either will be an experience better than the MDR for a special occasion, with better food selections as well as more personalized service.

Thanks. We were looking at those two. Will choose one of them.

  9. Thank you for your reply. God bless your son and please thank him for his service.

Handicapped rooms have roll-in showers for those who need them. The doors are wider in order to accommodate a wheelchair. There is also a fold-down ramp to get onto the balcony although we have found them to be quite stiff to operate. My son is a disabled vet who must use a wheelchair at all times (broke his neck in the Army) so we have seen the inside cabins he books and we were once automagically upgraded to a Caribe deck HC balcony on Crown when nobody had booked the cabin. We found a week or so before we sailed. We were upgraded from an inside to the HC balcony. Loved the room but would obviously have given it up in a heartbeat if someone actually needed it.
  10. Has anyone been in one of the handicapped staterooms on the Royal Princess? My husband sometimes needs his wheelchair and sometimes can walk. We're thinking of either getting a handicapped balcony room or a mini suite.

Any help would be appreciated. Is the mini suite worth the money?

  11. Was on the Equinox a few weeks ago. Tried all the specialty restaurants. All were good. Our favorite was Murano which we went to three times, one of which was my husband's birthday. They came out with a beautiful and delicious birthday cake for him. Very special. Tuscan was very good which I'd say was our second favorite. Silk Harvest, also good was our third and Sushi on Five was good if you're a sushi eater. Both our husbands weren't fans of sushi so they weren't as happy with their meal as we were. While they have a few other dishes, they should offer more standard fare for those who don't enjoy a California roll, etc. and have chicken/steak teriyaki or some other mainstream Japanese dishes. Overall we were happy we tried all the specialty restaurants. All were good.
