  1. We are staying at Hyatt Place 17th St Convention Center. Nice hotel, 10 min to the pier . Next to shopping & restaurants. We booked the room for 11/23 directly for $124

  2. We are on the Noordam 11/27/2014 Southern Caribbean Seafarer.

I've looked in the Dominican Republic board on CC, but it seems that HAL uses a different port than most. If anyone has stopped there, can you help me answer a question?

I am considering booking a trip over to Caya Levantado at the Pier when we get there. Does the ship send a tender there to bring folks back? I got the impression from the ship-sponsored excursion that they did. I don't want to be reliant on a local return or (worse) be stranded there.

I wasn't thrilled with the rest of the offerings there. We are SCUBA diving at the rest of our stops, but that end of DR isn't known for great dives.

  3. We are on the Noordam on Nov 24th in an SC guarantee. I got an email from HAL today offering an upsell to the PS. It was more than I wanted to pay, but I called anyway.

I thanked them for offering the upsell & asked what the cost might be to upsell to the corner aft suite we really wanted all along. He agent spoke with her supervisor and offered it to us at no charge.

I have an assignment I thought was better than the PS 4 weeks before the cruise. It NEVER hurts to ask!

  4. We have always used the laundry and dry cleaning since we stay in the Neptune suites. It's great to pack less (relatively speaking) and have clean clothes when we return home!

Out only problem was when dry cleaning lost Mike's tuxedo jacket. Our cabin attendant was mortified, and we were worried what to do for that evening if it couldn't be found. Our cabin attendant made a list of EVERY dry cleaning order in the last 2 days on board & visited every cabin until he found Mike's jacket in the same room one deck up.

  5. We had it for a partial transit of the canal. You could see all around the rear of the ship as you went through - gorgeous views! We had 20+ from CC on the balcony with us. The next level down, the corner cabins could actually reach out & touch the sides of the canal.

  6. Another great dive shop is Curious2Dive - Hans will personalize your dive trip based on your interests and abilities. He's a Curacao native that knows all the dive sites and is on good terms with the locals.

The best Curacao diving is shore diving!

  7. I'll second using Curious2Dive in Curacao. Hans will pick you all up at the pier, outfit you at the shop and do a good briefing for divers & snorkelers. You will most likely go to Tugboat. Shallows for snorkelers, a shallow wreck, great growth under a pier, and often sea horses.

He can offer the best of both worlds with a single shore dive.
