  2. Phil:

You get the dinner only if you are the "Top Cruiser". They've appeared to discontinue a dinner with a Senior Officer and replaced it with most cruises with a lunch in Blu with all Zeniths invited to dine with officers. Zenith beverage packages and Internet have also been diluted by giving them as "perks" and embedding the cost in the price of the cruise. They have been gradually cutting back on the Loyalty program and those who want additional benefits just don't appear to understand the shift in priorities.

We try to avoid eating with the staff.

  3. Many thanks for posting this message. :)

Thank you for posting that information. Im sure that if substantiated, that will bring a huge sigh of relief from many who see this as an imposition made to unsuspecting participants on this particular cruise. :D:cool:

We have visited other parts of India in the past and it was always the same, rip off prices for visas.

As an Australian friend said to me this morning, "It was the Brits that taught the Indians Red Tape", but this is abusing the privilege.:(

I also called CIBT this morning in an effort to clarify the need for a visa, " if as passengers we have no intention whatsoever of putting a foot on Indian soil," already deciding that we will not be leaving the ship whilst in Cochin.

I was informed that it was compulsory to obtain a visa at an exaggerated cost which did include their admin fees. Bumping the cost up to around the £500 mark for two people.

    WHAT!!!!!!!:mad::mad:

  4. Or quite the opposite.

On the huge QM2, having the launderettes either aft or forward (they almost alternate as you rise up the decks) means that, instead of walking the entire length of the ship to find a laundry, there may well be one above or below you, and therefore closer (by lift/elevator). Passengers in the middle of the ship only have to walk half the length of the vessel.

So, not awckward (sic) at all. An entirely user-friendly layout.

Thats an interesting theory, which is the shortest half and does altitude aid drying time?

  5. Doesn't matter which launderette you use, but please don't throw the iron at anyone!

I purchased an IPad and an IPhone for my wife which she uses constantly also an IRon that you refer to, this has never been out of the box, claims she cannot get a signal. Should I return it?

  6. I find this info interesting. We've been on cruises where both lounges were jam packed, and others where there were only a handful of people in the CL. I'm sure the numbers for the Harmony TA will be through the roof.

I am reliably informed that on the TA on 23/10/16 Harmony there will be in excess of 2000 D and D + members cruising and approx 200 Pinnacle members.

The Diamonds will be restricted to Deck 4 and the Suites and Pinnacles to Dazzle and Concierge bars. Want to take bets they dont stick to that.

    Evidently no reservations either.

This is going to be interesting.

  7. We are 4 adults 2 of whom are regular cruisers and the other 2 first timers we are contemplating taking this cruise, but would like some clarification on dress especially with respect to formal evenings which Im sure will be in abundance on this 55 night cruise.

Whilst we regularly cruise on RCL we do not dress for the beach when going for dinner, but we have heard that if you do not retain your formal dress for the entire evening then you might find yourself excluded from certain areas of the ship, predominantly the theatre and various bars. Could somebody elucidate on this please.

Some guidelines would be useful as to what attire for men and women are deemed acceptable. Formal, lounge suit, Country club casual, etc and the guideline for kadies also.

Whilst we appreciate that a degree of decorum should be retained is it verging on Victorian principles or are we in the 21st century?

Im apologise in advance if this subject has been covered in the past and if so if I can be directed to the debate so that I could be answered would be appreciated.

  8. Rent a car. little Office across the street think its Budget, Rent the car for about 60 bucks do the Island and have lunch at Bloody Marys.

Your not going to get lost honestly.:):):):):):)

Have a great time. we did

  9. Are these amenities fleet wide for junior suites? We are booked in December for a junior suite on Grandeur of the Seas and in August for Vision of the Seas. Both are Vision class. I have some questions.

Do they provide the tea bags? Are they the same as I would find in Park Cafe? Does anyone know the coffee filter size, in case dh wants to buy and bring coffee with him? Dh said he will buy small filter/coffee bags, good for one or two cups, if no one can answer.

Also, does the attendant provide ice or an ice bucket in the cabin or upon request? And do they provide bottled or a pitcher of water for the tea and coffee? Or will we need to fetch our own ice and water if we do not want to use the bathroom tap water?

Do the junior suites on Grandeur and Vision have walk-in closets? The videos I have seen make the closet look like a regular closet, albebit maybe a little larger but not a walk-in. I haven't seen the JS closets in person yet, however.

    TIA!

John whats the 5000 club? Hours, days or weeks spent cruising? The reason I ask, don't be offended, but is if its days, the questions you ask seem pretty basic even mundane.

Tea bags. These can easily be picked up at any of the refreshment stations in the windjammer.

Whats wrong with the water in the bathroom? Its all treated via Reverse osmosis and tastes better than most city waters.

Ice can be obtained via room service or from any bar.

Nothing like a glass of iced water enjoyed on your balcony following an intensive trek around the walk in closet.

  10. Nope. I don't really care about dogs. I like dogs, but it doesn't bother me one way or another if they are onboard.

Margaritas are not on the cocktail menu for the DL or CL, so it is not surprising me to that you were not able to use your vouchers for them.

Same thing with the buy 1 get 1 free wine by the glass. That is what the coupon is for. It is nice that you were able to get them to discount a bottle for you previously.

I'm sorry you were disappointed. And I understand why you would be. But if they are going to be consistent, then it should be the same rules on each ship.

There were many things that we used to receive that made us feel special. We don't seem to really get them anymore, but we also understand that the ships and service have changed. We have lowered our expectations accordingly. If we do receive a nice gesture, we are both surprised and delighted. :)

Can whole heartedly agree with all of the above except the dog thing. This service dog thing seems to be an american term and as usual is actively abused. Too many of these rats on sticks dressed as clowns ( thats the dogs not the owners) frequenting ships , restaurants and bars. Perhaps a visit to a therapist would be in order, or is it as a result of such that there are so many of these critters about?

  11. I searched the forums and found that most people rarely see mosquitos on the ship, but I wonder if they're taking additional precautions.

Additionally, we will be swimming with dolphins in Cozumel off of Independence in April. I hear that the zika mosquitos are crazy daytime biters. Anyone see them there?

Not personally, but you could enquire at the Land Excursions desk to see if there is an RCCL tour possibly with lunch at a really inflated price available to spot them in their natural habitat.

  12. This!

No it is a closely guarded secret, that all RCCL ships based in the USA are regularly sailed through a giant open air car wash type device just outside Fort Lauderdale, where the whole vessel is thoroughly, washed and sprayed with Deet as a precaution against mosquitos.

The ships are then detailed and returned to their port of departure to carry on their cruise schedules. The crews attend a separate base to be sprayed whilst the ship is undergoing this procedure. With special attention given to their hair, feet and behind their ears.

  13. The only difference really is the name changes of venues. This trip on Independence with so many Pinnacle, D+ &D (1200) is that the Diamond lounges have been extended to Viking Crown and Pyramid Lounges taking the overflows. Many of the Pinnacle cruisers are mingling with the D & D+ lounges probably because the Concierge lounge is tiny.

The Welcome back was held in the theatre where top cruiser Addison Fittis (1400 nights) received his earned accolade and toasted with champagne.

Captains table and dining with Officer still happening and probably open to those D+ who are halfway to Pinnacle.

For the rest of us dining with friends in Chops is only $60 per couple and not hundreds of thousands of $ for the privilege.

Weather fine seas calm on this easy going TA aboard The Indy.

Will be attending the Royal brunch and galley tour on day 11 if the standard is as high on here as it was on Splendor, then personally, that will be the best $60 spent on this cruise.

  14. I think that pretty clear indication that real Voom is available on Indy. I assume you had the STREAM package?

Yup we dont do cheap[emoji6]we have to maintain contact at all times. Glad they brought Voom and Surf on otherwise contemplating a sat phone..
