1. Oh and I haven't seen the SW Fakeaways book but I'll look it up now, thanks Cathy 😊 Keep going everyone!! Hannah x

Have seen the Fakeaway recipe book at the weigh in and last week it was our chance to nominate Woman of the year. Evidently it is an opportunity for members to cook a recipe and bring along a portion for all to try.

Amongst the offerings were 3 selections all from the Fakeaway recipe book.

The Sechswan chicken and the Sag Aloo were great. There was also a rice dish containing lemon and coriander. All very tasty and you get your chile kick.

    I. Shall buy the book as we do love a curry and have many recipes but most contain Ghee or Cream we shall look for replacements.

Thai is the lightest and the tastiest to date.

  2. I am surprised that SW hasnt been adopted or been approached by many of the cruise lines.

After all whats the first reaction of most people when you tell them you plan to go on a cruise.?

Whoa your gonna put some weight on.

Everybody knows that it is the wardrobes in the cabins that make your clothes shrink!😇

I do need to find a SW spot in Florida as we spend 6 months there and using Publix scales is not as accurate.

Maybe somebody from SW could peruse the menus and score them accordingly,im open for the job if they want somebody.

    You know your amazing.

  3. Joined SW in July after putting on over a stone on my last break. It has been a godsend to me. In the eight weeks since i joined I have been on one cruise (12 days) which i at first perceived as being a challenge, but was pleasantly surprised to have been able to keep within bounds. I did add 1 and a half pounds but quickly made up for that in the first weigh in ashore.

Cut out the bread rolls, stuck to the healthy options and sugar free options at dinner.

Always went to breakfast in the MDR whenever possible as the measured portions were far more beneficial than the help yourself in the windjammer. If the WJ was the only option i stuck to scrambled eggs with pepoers and Tea.

Smoked salmon with either poached or scrambled in the mornings with water melon blitzed in the blender kept me going through to lunch. Fish dishes were high on the priority list.

We did visit chops and Portofino but kept away from the sauces.

My only sins were the Gin and zero tonics only 4 sins my allowance is 30 so plenty of scope.

So far been slimmer of the week and the month and will get my 1 stone sticker this week.

    Pleased you bet.

  4. Thanks so much to the posters for the helpful info/replies on the distances & food options at the various terminals in Harwich.

Yes, It is the ferry from Hook, Holland we will be taking. Sounds like we better do the "Gobble & Go" breakfast on the ferry. (Gobble & Go is the name of a team Pem Corgi race!)

I'm sure we would normally have no trouble walking from one to another, but with the luggage it might be a different matter. It seems silly for such a short distance, but now we feel assured we could engage a taxi, if need be, thanks to your replies. Cheaper than muscles or tendons out of wack for a month.

BobnJac, we are planning on being on the Oct 13th sailing too! Aqua Class.

    Cheers!

    Found this on a website.

Harwich Cruise & Ferry Terminal Facilities

Facilities within the cruise terminal are fairly basic, but purpose built and spacious. There is a cafe, very reasonably priced and a local tourist stand within the cruise terminal, but little else.

Next door in the ferry terminal, (accessed by going along the rail platform), is another restaurant an exchange bureaux, more toilets and telephones.

This is also where you will find the ticket office for the railway.

Immediately outside the front entrance to the cruise terminal is a spacious coach park and a taxi rank, very accessible. If you have a coach or private vehicle waiting you have a very, very short walk.

I see from ypur signature that you have travelled to Esberg on the ferry crossing. That was one of the most exciting trips my wife have ever made. A North sea crossing in a gale. Some years ago for a birthday treat jacquie booked a few days break in Esberg. We took the ferry from Harwich in March, just as we left port a snow storm began. We had our dinner and went to the cinema. We watched a film and were oblivious to what was occurring. We left the cinema and sat looking out of the window at the 40 ft plus high waves pounding the ship.

The ship was all but deserted and the crew were proffering sea sick tablets to those sturdy enough to endure the experience.

Its a trip we will never forget.

Just an aside and not wishing to detract from the thread.

  5. Thank you for that clear and concise reply.

We have used the voucher system recently on the Independence of the seas, this system proved very amicable especially if with friends who were not at the same loyalty level. We were all able to enjoy our pre dinner tipples altogether at most bars around the ship.

  6. We will be taking our first Celebrity cruise in October. We are currently Diamond on RCCL and as such look forward to receiving our alcoholic beverages in the Diamond Lounge.

Is there an equivalent on Celebrity ships all I can find ate references to Michaels Club for suite guests and zenith cruisers.

What and where are the Elite and Elite plus facilities located and what are the allowances.

  7. We have just returned from Harwich 19Aug 2014 and it is a bit of a Heath - Robinson affair there.

Not half as slick as the other cruise ports we have embarked/disembarked from.

Convenient for those travelling by train though as the platform is adjacent to the check-in area.

Ariving by car and using car park facilities seemed to be ok with shuttle busses or porters readily available. Perhaps there is such a service from the Fery port. Maybe if you call or google it you might get some decent info.

I do believe their is a canteen of sorts but it wont be gourmet thats for sure just inside the entrance. Probably tea, coffee and a curly ham sandwich.

Forewarned is fore-armed and it wont detract from your cruise experience I'm sure.

We will be back to take the Infinity on the 13 Oct and we are not expecting some magical transformation to have taken place in the mean time😉

  8. If I am unable to finish my delicious meal in the MDR, can I request to have it packed up and I can take it back to my cabin refrigerator? I would hate to waste good food. I can eat it the next day. Has anyone ever done this?

No just leave it and go the next day and repeat the delicious meal but have a smaller portion.

They have not implemented food rationing on ships as yet so this should not present a problem.

Doggy bags on ships? about as functional as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

  9.
Sounds like what I do. I eat very light for breakfast and lunch, and eat whatever the heck I want for dinner. Bread is my downfall - if I could resist the bread at dinner I'd probably lose weight on a cruise instead of staying the same, or maybe gaining 1-2 pounds. I also take the stairs as much as possible, especially if only going up four flights or less.

On my first ever cruise with Royal Caribbean, I never saw the inside of an elevator. That was the rule I set for myself at the beginning of that 11 nighter and I stuck with it. I've relaxed my "rule" a little, now that ships are getting taller :o
Wow! If you never use the elevator, how do you know which day of the week it is?
  10. Obviously taking the stairs is wholly dependent on the nature of the destination?

My wife constantly takes the stairs usually from deck 7 to the dining or even the Diamond lounge. Invariably we do use the elevators when we leave the Lounge and make our way to the MTD on 5 or wherever. Much more stable when you are double loaded with drinks! Even better if one can get somebody to press the correct floor button to allow you to alight on the dining floor!

Tried walking the track on the running deck but unfortunately got a stitch after 3 or 4 paces. athleticism not my forte.

Always avoid the on board gymnasium as it looks like a horror chamber although i did once purchase a pair of expensive sneakers and a Nike Top, unbelievably i never lost an ounce whilst wearing this apparel.

We go on cruises to enjoy the company, the food and the ambiance of the vessel, thats our take on it and besides you wouldn't have anything to gripe about if you didn't put on weight and worried about losing it between voyages, would you?

Don't wash your clothes in any chocolate based detergents, that makes them shrink.
  11. We did a bucket list trip in 2013 from the UK to Canberra via /Singapore. flew business class with Singapore Airlines, their service and lounges were fantastic. As we were in no rush we stopped over in Singapore for 7 days (you need endless funds or a lottery win to stay longer). Then we did a week in Bangkok.

ARRIVING IN Canberra we stayed with relatives for 12 days and then went to Cairns for a week. After flying back to CANBERRA we stayed over for another week before hiring a car and driving Sydney. Took it easy over 2 days.

Accommodation in Sydney especially near the Harbor is very expensive we were recommended to stay in Parramatta about 12 miles out of Sydney and former site of the Olympics.

So much to see and do in Sydney allow as much time as you can afford. the natives are friendly and the food great. It's like the USA but with an element of sophistication and hum our.

To get into Sydney there were so many options. Train about 20 minutes return journey very cheap. Even cheaper was the river boat travels down the river right into the harbor where you utilize the same ticket to ride the ferries to Darling Harbor and other spots.

If you like seafood you must try any of the Doyle's fish restaurants.

We did another week here before joining the Radiance On its repositioning to Hawaii. A great trip and hopefully we will do it again.
