  1. I don`t have first hand experience of this but going by all the past threads concerning this it seams best to say nothing and let your friend be a no show . You don`t want to risk extra charges . Hope you enjoy your holiday x

  2. I would agree with Kieth , we book ours according to what we have done during the day ,

i.e. if we have had a long excursion and will probably be tired we don`t book a speciality restaurant and just go with the flow and grab something quick .

We tend to book our speciality dining for days when we can appreciate it more ( sea days are good for us ) . As for shows , if your worried there are 2 performances per night so book your dining for early or late , that way you should be able to take in a show as well .

    Hope you enjoy x

  3. I can’t answer that but we are currently researching our stay in Southampton and you will get great answers on the British Isles port of call forum. I have heard it is quite possible depending on your day and time in port to take the train to Salisbury and then get on the HOHO to Stonehenge. The recurring tip is to buy the Stonehenge ticket thru the hoho bus company as doesn’t limit you to a time.

When you get to Salisbury train station you will see tours to Stonehenge being offered . Did one of these trips years ago , was very reasonably priced if i remember .

  4. NCL have been doing a Wine Wednesday promotion in the UK. It didn't matter if you booked through a TA or direct with NCL but if you booked on a Wednesday you received a case of wine. Mine arrived last week without any paperwork and even my TA didn't know anything about it! Luckily, I had read about the promotion on the NCL website. Not sure if this is ongoing but it might be worth checking before you make a UK booking and make sure it is on a Wednesday. Enjoy!

blooming heck just booked last week on Thursday lol , didn`t know about this Wednesday promotion .

  5. We like the Hotel San Francisco in Santiago. It fronts on a busy street, but our room wasn't noisy. The hotel is near a traffic light, so we could cross the busy street, and from there it's walking distance on a pedestrian only street to the main square.

The hotel has a huge old lobby (with a bar)--a good place to wait and people-watch. The concierge and bellmen were extremely helpful with storing luggage and calling a taxi to the airport. The taxi-ride to the airport was not long and the fare was reasonable.

Santiago has a truly great museum to Pre-Columbian art--just a couple of blocks from the main square. In addition to the main square, walk down the busy street in front of the hotel to the Capitol building and try to catch the changing of the guard if you can--it's quite spectacular. Behind the capitol is a statue to Salvador Allende.

is the hotel in a safe area ? are there any restaurants within walking distance / is it safe to walk to them ?

    thank you in advance x

  6. Thanks June, we are growing tiresome of the Caribbean already. The girls can have an educational experience with the Canal and locks and see something most won't have the opportunity to. It's on the bucket list for my DW and I so it's a win win all the way around. We want to give them trips of a lifetime as I'm sure most everyone sailing with kids everywhere want to as well.

i couldn`t have put it better myself x Our son has travelled all over from a baby . He always enjoyed seeing ancient sites , safari`s in Kenya as well as plenty of beach / fun days . He often talks about the wonderful places he`s visited and still remembers then even though he was young . PS bet your children`s teachers are impressed your taking them on this holiday .

    Hope you enjoy x

  7. I agree. Just hoping that since the first cruise week of the two is spring break for my school district allowing for my kids to miss only one week of actual school. Hopefully this plan works for others taking this cruise with kids, albeit few, in their school districts as well around the country. I would never have my kids miss two weeks of school that was in session.

We have just completed the panama canal cruise on the star ( which was brilliant bye the way ) and it did have an "older" crowd BUT there were some families with children aboard . Also your kids might enjoy the history behind the building of the canal ( i know our son would and hopefully they will remember this trip for a long time ) , PLUS this is a new ship , very family friendly and should attract other families . Not all families want a weeks cruise around the same old caribbean ports . I say well done for taking your children on a informative as well as fun trip . x

  8. I second this!

Have been there twice now--second time kind of unplanned, as our ship was supposed to sail Eastern Caribbean, but Fall 2017 hurricanes intervened.

    Tropicante is great!

    Mexican staff speaks English.

Food is well prepared to order and delicious (I have food allergies, so that is always a concern, but felt comfortable after making this known to Steve and staff).

Owner, Steve is American (Originally from Texas, as I recall). We met an American couple (Steve's friends who live in Mexico) last time we were there too--nice folks!

Older gentleman will meet your taxi/shuttle with your name on a chalk board when you arrive.

how easy is it to get a cab back to port ? would hate the stress of not being able to get a cab

  9. I`m a firm believer in the saying "when in Rome do as Romans !! " In the uk we do not tip when we get a drink in a bar , but when away we do what is expected in THAT country . In the whole scheme of things i feel to tip a buck when getting a drink is very little but very much appreciated by the bar tender .

Going back to the original question i always take plenty of one dollar bills " Cash is king " much better to give a cash tip , you then know where your money is going x
