  1. Looks like everyone has answered the Suite questions, so I'll jump in on the Thermal Suite.

It's a small area in the middle of the spa. They only sell a small number of passes because it isn't a big area. The area is co-ed, so appropriate attire is required. There are 4 heated loungers, 2 different steam rooms and a dry sauna. There is a shower on either side of the room for cooling off.

The only real gripe is the area is quite small. The loungers are usually taken and it can take awhile to get one. I prefer to have the steam / sauna in the locker rooms like on the Radiance class, because they tend to be less crowded.

Hopefully they've done some work on the facilities because on our last trip there was always at least one thing broken (steam or sauna, one day all 3 were down). Not the end of the world, but if you pay $150 for a week long pass you kind of expect it to be in working order.

Oasis is a marvel of modern engineering and simply one of the best ships afloat. Enjoy your trip!

  2. I was onboard until I read this...(highlighted in red)

    Coming from Carnival, that's rich!

Carnival is the cruise line that made me retire my tux. Had my tux on and here we are in the dining room with people wearing jeans, with their butt cracks hanging out.

But it is what it is. I still cruise CCL, not a lot anymore but when I do I dress down for the dining room.:)

    Bill

    Amen!

To each their own, but I had a good LOL that Carnival > RCL.

  3. To provide an educational opportunity for all other passengers, it might be better to first keelhaul the guilty parties, then make them walk the plank. Preferably on a sea day so everyone will be aboard to benefit from the lesson being taught.

Only if I get a chair so I can watch. :D

  4. I would never, ever try cutting it this close.

Why? Because of days like today. I'm sitting in an airport right now facing a 4 hour delay due to a cancelled flight. If this were cruise day, I would have just missed my ship.

Everyone has their personal preferences, but I always fly in the day prior just in case of any problems just like this one. Even if the flight is on time, what if you have a flat tire, or there's a wreck so you get stuck in traffic?

    No way.

  5. These tipping threads always get people hot under the collar, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

As someone who grew up in poverty, I watched my mother struggle to make ends meet as a server. I'll never forget seeing how hard she worked for almost nothing. I've always remembered that and I tip accordingly.

It's a crap job and these employees are paid very little.

  6. If every guest gives a bar waiter a dollar extra they cannot then give everyone special service then what?.

Then whoever gives $2 will get better service [emoji3]

I have no issues with tipping, but I do think the automatic gratuity on drinks is a tricky subject. If I order a special drink (like a mixed drink, or a frozen drink) then I'll toss another buck or two on top of the total. 18% to hand me a bottle of water seems out of line honestly. Doesn't matter since I can't do anything about it!

I always prepay my gratuities and I always give our room attendant anywhere from $50 - $100 as soon as we board. I'm an ice freak and always want ice in my room so I ask them to keep it full all week. Never had an issue.

  7. I'd be surprised if there is a ship with more reviews or information on here than Oasis. That particular class of ship is simply amazing and a wonder to behold.

My favorite class is the Radiance, but the Oasis is incredibly hard to beat. You'll never know there are that many people on the ship when you are there because of the incredible size of her. All of the specialty restaurants are great with Chops and Sabor being our favorites (usually eat at both twice).

    Oh, and CATS sucks. [emoji3]

  8. I'm on the same cruise as you; Allure Jan 29th.

If you are setting aside $750 - $800 then I would just go ahead and buy the alcohol package. For two people it's $760 and then you can just drink whatever you want.

I'm not a huge drinker but the package allows you to experiment and try some different drinks without having to feel bad about just having spent $11 on a drink that sucks. If you hate it then just toss it and try something else.

It's been a long, tiring year so we bought the package and I intend to make the most of it. [emoji56]

  9. Hi guys, going to be on the Radiance in May to Alaska, an might want to try Izumi's Restaurant. Has anybody eaten there, and where could I find a menu, an where could I find the cruise compasses for the Radiance, last yrs cruise to Alaska? If not, thats ok to. Inquiring minds would like to know.

It's just like any other hibachi that you'll eat at anywhere. It's good if you like that type of food but there's certainly nothing special or unique about it.

We always eat there but not more than once per cruise.

  10. Well, I love you all dearly, but as a physician board-certified in nephrology, hypertension, and electrolytes, and an author of a chapter on the hospital management of electrolyte disorders (albeit 16 years ago now), I must say I've not seen more BS in a thread in a long time! ;)

these are the facts, from an expert:

    1. water will taste salty at a concentration of 200mg-250mg/liter. so to get 1 gram of sodium, you'd have to drink 5 liters of water. there are usually 2-4 grams of sodium (or more) in a typical restaurant meal. For example, Applebee's chicken fajita rollup with french fries: 4200 mg. does the ship's water taste salty? No. So even if it had the most sodium it could have without tasting salty, you'd have to drink 21 liters, or about 5 gallons, to get the sodium in one Applebee's meal.

    2. water intake does not "flush out" sodium. Sodium concentration is very tightly regulated by the body, if you take in too much sodium water will be pulled out of your cells and the sodium concentration in the tissues will stay about the same. You will also feel very thirsty. If you are not thirsty, your sodium concentration is normal and you don't need more water (although there are rare people with impaired thirst sensation.) Sometimes in the hospital we can give too much sodium to a debilitated patient who can't drink, then we have to give free water based on lab values. But we never use water to "flush out" sodium.

    3. No clinical practice guidelines recommend increasing water intake to control edema. There is no reason this would work.

    4. Gatorade does have more sodium but as has been pointed out it has alot of sugar. You can and will get plenty of sodium from food so no reason to drink gatorade. I've never recommended that to anyone.

It is definitively the food. Those of you who do better with bottled water are undoubtedly drinking more water, which suppresses the appetite and as you all probably know is recommended as part of any weight loss diet. So you are just eating less food. If that is what it takes to keep you from overdoing the food/sodium intake, then keep bringing bottled water.

but I promise you it is not the ship's water. Really.

Bottled water is recommended for all immunosuppressed patient due to some microsporidium outbreaks that have occurred in public water systems. Ship's water should be fine, but otherwise I'm sure a letter from your doc or coordinator will suffice.

sorry for the diatribe but this is my jam.

How dare you come here and state facts.

  11. If you have the disposable income, get a balcony. It's fun to have, but it's not necessary to enjoy your trip.

I don't spend all that money for a vacation to sit in my room; I want to be out exploring the ship, people watching, or catching some fresh air.

  12.

My husband tried Sorrentos and said it tasted like frozen pizza.

I've eaten some crappy pizza before but Sorrento's is shockingly bad. I cannot believe how many people line up to eat that stuff. Those cheap "Tony's" pizzas out of the freezer section are better.

The only thing I've ever eaten on RCI that is worse is that garbage they serve on Labadee. That's the worst food I've ever had. There was a really, really skinny dog walking around and I tried to give it a hot dog off my plate (sue me, I'm a dog lover). It took one bite and dropped the rest on the ground and walked off. No, I'm not exaggerating either.

    That stuff was brutal.
