  1. I hate using the soda machines in fast food restaurants. People are sloppy when they fill them and the thought of reusable cups makes me squeamish. That's a great way to pass along colds and norovirus. I'd rather stick with cans.

Disney has been using self serve soda machines for years. The new chip ones are even better as the cup has to be placed on the base in order for the soda to come out.

I have used them at Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld. I have not heard of anyone getting sick from a soda dispenser. I would think it's lower than grabbing food from the buffet.

Not saying that they can't keep things as they are but also offer the soda machines as an option, especially when you order the soda package.

  2. I switched our 3100 stateroom on our up coming cruise to one of the newer conference staterooms when one became available. My mom doesn't know that I switched it.

I was happy with the location of 3100, but I heard the other ones were a bit larger and had a bigger window. Keep checking, as you can switch as long as it's the same category. I checked every week about a month or so before final payment. Might have checked more often closer to payment date.

I haven't cruised with Celebrity yet. Have a great cruise.

  3. It was a serious question about allergies, not necessarily you. I wondered if there was some chemical transformation that occurred.

Well I can tell you that I'm allergic to most raw veggies. If they are cooked, I don't have a reaction. I also have allergies to certain fruits, once cooked I can eat them.

I have some crazy allergies. My sister didn't believe me about the fruits and veggies but then it started happening to her. I noticed it a few years ago while eating raw broccoli and nectarines. I thought there were pesticides or something on the nectarines that I was reacting to. I managed to get in and see an allergist and he said it's from the oak trees and the pollen from them gets onto the fruit before it's even formed.

I have been going to a Naturopath for almost a year and I have stopped eating certain foods (he did testing) and shortly after eliminating (dairy, wheat, corn, potatoes, sugar, etc.) I stopped having asthma attacks. I was so allergic to smoke that someone smoking over 10' away could cause me to have an attack. Now I can stand next to someone smoking and nothing happens. The bad news is that this diet was suppose to help with the raw veggies. I tried eating snap peas and that was a big mistake. I never expected to have the reaction I had. Normally raw fruits and veggies give me itchy eyes. The peas made my throat start to swell. I was lucky and my inhalers and benedryl worked well enough I didn't have to call 911.

  4. We had the same experience on the solstice. Talked to two people at guest relations. Can only do classic to classic downgrade.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

It must be fairly new. I have been reading a lot of threads here since I booked and a few have been able to downgrade to the Premium Non-Alcoholic. There is no incentive to downgrade, you might as well keep the free Classic package. I guess I will see what drinks I would like to try.

  5. I haven't sailed with Celebrity, but I'm sure you can swap out sides that come with the meal with anything else that is on the menu (even from the kids).

I've only sailed with Disney but I always switched out the baked potato for either fries or rice. I also had any sauces left off.

  6. I tried doing this in March for my niece since she was under 21. They would only do the classic non-alcohol package and if I wanted the premium had to pay to upgrade. Were very insistent that it was only Classic to Classic that was allowed. Doesn't make sense since the non-alcohol packages are way less that the Classic Alcohol package

Was it just the two of you in a stateroom? If not that might be the reason.

Did you check just once or did you try asking again with a different person?

I have heard reports of others doing this, so I'm going to try. Obviously, if the person I talk to says only Classic Non-Alcoholic package I will say no thanks.

  7. I don't think, technically, that there is such a thing. There is sorbet, which has no dairy, but it isn't ice cream. I have occasionally seen sorbet on Celebrity as a between-course palate cleanser, but not as a regular dessert offering. I have never seen ice-cream substitutes made with almond milk or soy milk on Celebrity.

They have coconut and other non-dairy milk ice cream on land. I have seen cashew and almond, I'm sure there are others. I haven't looked as right now I'm not eating anything with added sugar. But when I'm on the cruise it would be nice to enjoy a treat. I also can't have wheat so I think getting any treats will be hard onboard.

  8. From what I have read it's still a good use of free perk. Using it for bottled water, soda, speciality coffees and the odd virgin drinks.

I also don't drink alcohol. I have decided to see if I can downgrade to the Premium Non-Alcohol package since I would drink smoothies and the sparkling waters, more than the odd alcoholic drink. I don't drink soda and try not to have added sugar.

  9. I called in and had my allergies listed for my cruise. Most of them are not life threatening. I have some foods I avoid because they cause me to be allergic to smoke. Strange, I know. I have been seeing a Naturopath for almost a year. After he did testing and had me not eat certain foods, I noticed that when I was out and about I wasn't having any asthma attacks from smokers. It was quite quick 2-3 months of not eating dairy, wheat and a few other things that I noticed. It has been great so far. It's quite a change in how I live.

Last year I went to Disney World and had my worst trip ever. I had so many asthma attacks it was crazy. They were bad ones too. I wish I knew about avoiding certain foods earlier.

I'm hoping that I can still find food to eat and enjoy my cruise while trying to avoid foods that aren't good for me.

I'm guessing there is no way to see online that my allergies are noted anywhere. Anyone know for sure?

  10. They have Lactose Free and Soya milk available, if you are dairy intolerant and have filled in a Special Needs form.

Thanks I haven't filled out the form yet. I go for more testing and want to see what the Naturopath says. I have a feeling I won't be able to have dairy, if I want to be able to not have asthma attacks all the time.

I have been on a very strict diet for 5 months. I can now go outside and not worry that I will have an asthma attack from someone smoking near me (or 10 feet or so away). Yup it was that bad. Unfortunately, I found out I'm really allergic to raw peas. He said I should be able to eat raw veggies now that I cleared out but I had an anaphylaxis reaction after eating them, where previously I just got itchy eyes from some raw fruits and veggies. So no raw veggies now, not worth the risk.

  11. It starts out as real milk, yes. I think some people have issues because when using such high temperatures, the milk gets a weird burnt flavor. Some research I remember suggested UHT dramatically changes the milk protein somehow. In the end I remember thinking the issue was the use of high heat had some significant change to the structure or something or other so what you are drinking is a far cry from what came out of the cow. They do this because it makes the milk shelf stable for 6-9 months.

Personally, I use almond milk or oat milk in coffee, oatmeal, etc and drink water instead.

I've had to switch to dairy free but I can't stand almond milk in coffee. It tastes burnt and so gross.

So far oat milk in coffee is the best but I still prefer Coffeemate.

  12. I would check out Vancouver if you have never been. There are a lot of things to do. Since the Olympics getting to the airport is very easy. Stanley Park, Aquarium, Science World, China Town, Capilano Suspension Bridge (North Van) are some of the big tourist spots. If you don't have a SeaBus near you, just taking it from downtown to the north shore is fun (you end up at Lonsdale Quay).

  13. From everything I have read so far, it's best to upgrade onboard. The charge to upgrade will go onto your account and if you have OBC, it can be paid with it.

Seems like some have been able to get a discount by asking. So why pay $ up front when you could pay less or next to nothing if you have OBC to use up.

  14. We did a recipe exchange on one of our cruises. It was neat seeing what other people's favourite dishes/desserts were.

Was a bit hard for some recipes as they weren't in different measurements (that I'm not use to using) or had items that we don't have in our country.

  15. Celebrity treats their customers better than the cruise line we were suppose to cruise with this year. We were given one cruise to change to and no break on the price (Newest cruise ship in their fleet so double the price). No transfer of all the perks we originally booked with to the new cruise, no incentive at all. I doubt anyone fell for that offer. Who would want to pay double what we originally booked and we had to go down to an inside from an oceanview since they were all booked.

We asked for our deposit back and are cruising with Celebrity instead.

  16. I'm still stuck on Doug and Cindy's claim that they are 'trying to ear healthier' by drinking Soylent. (BTW, did you know that stuff has been banned in Canada?)

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent_(meal_replacement)

    Gross.

If you want to loose weight cut way down on your wheat and dairy consumption. Eat more fruits and vegetables.

The Naturopath I have been seeing has put me on a special diet that is low in glucose and had me eliminate certain foods my body can't handle (wheat, dairy, corn, vinegar, beef, etc.) I now am not allergic to smoke. I have lost weight. I go back in 2 months and get re-tested to see if I can eat some of the foods again.

He told me that 80% of the population shouldn't be consuming dairy.
