  1. UPDATE - After I calmed down I wrote Mr. Kalish an email pointing out how disappointing it was that he obviously didn't do any research at all before responding to me. I never expected to hear from him, but today I received an email saying that they had reconsidered my claim and as a gesture of goodwill they are going to reimburse us for the $325.40 we spent on the airfare. I don't know what changed his mind, but maybe when I responded to his letter, it made him take a second look. I have always been treated very, very well by NCL in the past and it is my favorite cruise line. They have redeemed themselves (at least to me) with this reimbursement. It is not the money that makes me happy, it is that they are doing the right thing now. I was always going to cruise with them again because I love cruising with them, but now I can do it without a lingering bad taste. Thank you NCL for reconsidering.

Any ideas for the rest of us that haven't been able to get our flight fees? I have sent in proof that I purchased tickets from LAX back to Vancouver but they want me to re-book something. Not sure what I want to book yet.

  2. I'm still confused about the Smoothies. It doesn't appear on either the Classic or the Premium Pkg. only on the Premium Non Alcoholic.

I'm getting the Classic and would enjoy having a few Smoothies on my 7-night cruise. Would like to find out before the cruise if they are free, full price or a dollar or two more. Anyone been recently that can let me know?

  3. Classic package can you get cans of soda ? Or is that now only on premium ? I am not to sure now

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

From everything I have read you are suppose to get a glass on the Classic. However some have reported that they were given a can, but wasn't at a particular bar each time. So random, and you are lucky if it happens.

  4. I got a phone call today saying my proof wasn't good enough. They don't want proof you purchased tickets they want proof you have cancelled and were charged a change fee.

I tried telling them I would never have booked with the airline that I did if I wasn't doing a trip to LA. If I plan on going to Orlando I would use Alaska Airlines as I have their CC and get a companion rate of $99. My airfare cost $230 for two people and is direct from LAX to Vancouver.

NCL won't do a thing until I decide where I'm going and show them proof that it cost me money to change destination and or dates.

  5. I try not to use hand sanitizer. They kill all the bacteria on your hands including the good bacteria.

So when you use hand sanitizer you have clean hands for as long as you don't touch anything or there is nothing in the air to get on them. As soon as germs get on your hand they will multiply quickly as you have no good bacteria to stop them.

Soap and water. I will only use hand sanitizer if I absolutely can't find soap and water.

  6. I thought Classic Alcohol included all of the items on NA Premium. No?

From what I have read here you don't get the Premium Water- includes sparkling water and Smoothies.

I'm thinking I might switch mine to Premium NA if they will allow it. I don't drink, but was thinking I might try a drink or two when I got the package. Then I found out the smoothies and sparkling waters are not included in the Classic Package.

I mostly drink sparkling water as a treat at home. I don't drink any soda. I do enjoy fancy coffees and teas.

  7. Well you are doing better than me. I booked with NCL and had my October 1st cruise cancelled. I had already purchased airfare for the return flight. Got a great deal so I booked. Cost to change flight is almost as much as the tickets cost.

NCL offered us nothing. I had to fill out a form online and show proof that I purchased airfare and still nothing. Friday it will be two weeks since I filled out the form. Still not sure if they will pay the $200 in change fee or $230 for the tickets.

They wanted us to switch to their new ship the Bliss and pay more than double for the same itinerary but downgraded to an inside since they don't have any oceanview left. Oh and they won't transfer over any of the extra free items we got when we booked on the Pearl. I said no thanks and decided to book with Celebrity.

  8. If it is going to be canceled due to a charter, it would have most likely been done by now. They usually notify booked passengers about a year ahead of time so that flight cancellation fees won't be involved. So, you should be good to go on that sailing.

Thanks! It would really be awful to have a second cruise cancelled.

  9. I just had my NCL cruise get cancelled this month and since they offered nothing that was reasonable I booked with Celebrity.

Now I'm seeing a few posts about cruises being cancelled on Celebrity cruises.

I know things happen but it seems like a lot of cancelled cruises. Is there a way to figure out if the new cruise I have booked might get cancelled? It has been quite stressful trying to re-plan my vacation. I'm still doing a Pacific Coast but it ends in a different city and has more ports so more researching for me. I also plan to spend 6 nights after the cruise before flying home.

I have cruised with Disney 5 times and maybe remember reading once about a cancelled cruise. I know they only have 4 ships so that might be the reason for less cancelled cruises.

  10. I find it interesting that both smoothies and bottled water seem to be excluded from the classic package.

I have checked on Celebrities own website and smoothies aren't listed for either the Classic or Premium Drink Packages. I do believe they are included for both packages as I looked up the Aquaspa Cafe and it says Complimentary (drinks might be an exception but how much can they charge for a smoothie?)

I also found this it's from over a year ago but someone posted that smoothies are included on the Classic Drink Package. Post #91 - https://boards.cruisecritic.com.au/showthread.php?t=2283776&page=5

  11. If you go onto the Celebrity website and look up Aquaspa Cafe it says it's complementary. I doubt that smoothies cost more than the fancy coffees and teas they have available for free on the Classic Pkg.

My mom is happy with the Classic Pkg for drinks. If she wants a better wine she will just pay for it. But I doubt she will want to pay more, she will probably just drink the free wines with dinner.

  12. Why don't you get the premium non-alcoholic package instead? If you aren't drinking alcohol at all anyway, it would probably cover all your drinking needs and desires.

I'm going with my mom and the Classic Drink Pkg was one of the free offers we got. She drinks.

  13. Regarding no smoothies, I find my preference to be to order a pina colada (for example) and leave out the liquor. I'm not a huge fan of alcohol, but the nonalcoholic fuity/smoothie like drinks are great!

How much is a smoothie? It says it covers up to $9. If you look on their own website it doesn't say smoothies in either the Classic or the Premium pkg.

I have the Classic Pkg and thought I saw somewhere smoothies were included. Now I need to figure out where I saw it. I don't drink alcohol so that was one thing I was looking forward to having.

  14. I received a call from NCL. The connection wasn't the greatest I could barely hear her when she talked. It sounded like she was following up on the message I wrote when I put in a claim for airfare. She apologised about the cancelling of the cruise and wanted to know if I had anything else to say.

  15. We always purchase cruise insurance, however, in this case, it does not also protect air tickets which we needed to also purchase. We will receive the deposits back for the cruise and the hotel is not an issue but to lose airfare unless we rebook with NCL at the time of cancellation is not pleasant. The 10% to rebook is laughable when I know in the past they have offered 25% to passengers of canceled cruises.

True, we know a cruise can be canceled by the cruise company but the issue comes hard to swallow when NCL knew they booked a charter and was not transparent by not telling customers.

What! I wasn't told that the change fee for the airlines wouldn't be covered if I cancelled. I was told to fill in a request and the person on the phone then asked if I wanted to cancel the NCL booking. I said yes since you don't have anything else to offer me. I was told it takes about 3 days for them to go through the information I submitted on the airfare.

The change fee is more than I thought it was (apparently I was looking at old information) so it's $100 per person and I paid $230 for two tickets.

  16. My TA confirmed with a NCL TA that it's been chartered by a company to Cabo.

I'm booking a Pacific Coast on Celebrity as my replacement. It ends in San Diego and prices for hotels are more than half the ones in LA so even with the extra cost of the cruise and loosing some of the perks it's evening out a bit. SeaWorld and San Diego Zoo tickets aren't that expensive either so we have things we can do after the cruise.

I did not have a TA when I booked the NCL cruise. Mine had moved up in the company and the replacement agent I was given wasn't very good. I booked this cruise as I found a great deal on Black Friday weekend. I called the new agent on the Monday before and told her what I was thinking and never heard back from her again. I'm still using the same travel agency but just a new agent. She seems great so far as she has been helping me out even though the only thing I booked with her was the air.

  17. The biggest issue for many that booked on the Pearl is we had locked into a good price point by booking way in advance. This cruise was just a 5 night repo from Vancouver to Los Angeles that was leaving on October 1. They have another one on the Bliss that leaves one day earlier on September 1 also a 5 night. They have lots of space available on that cruise but will not let us exchange for that one unless we pay the new higher rates, which in some cases are double or even triple what the Pearl cost was for us. They are screwing the passengers who had booked the Pearl months ago. All I can say is they have lost my business for good and I am sure many other people feel the exact same. Not the end of the world because there are so many other cruise lines to pick. I will say this. I have had this happen before with Celebrity cruise line and they always took good care of me when something like this happened. Bye bye NCL forever.

I'm not loyal to NCL. I have never even sailed with them. They will be loosing customers if they don't come up with a better deal. The option they left us with is not really an option. I'm waiting and going to try next week and see what can be done.

They say they are willing to pay change fees but my airline fees are the same to cancel and I feel they shouldn't be that picky when it's only $50 CAN for two passengers. It's not my fault they decided to cancel our cruise and that I'm a person who likes to plan and get my trip organised as early and on budget as I can. I don't know what I'm doing for my holidays now and trying to figure it out in two weeks isn't very fair to me when I work full time and now have extra work with trying to keep my driveway clear of all the snow we have been getting. Maybe I'm now sticking with my Free Dining at WDW, which my mom won't do as it's booked for August and she doesn't want to deal with the heat in Florida. The airline that I booked to go to LA isn't that great to book a flight for Orlando.

  18. A company has booked the Pearl for a trip to Cabo. My TA found that out. So the 9 night cruise they were offering as an option is gone!

So far I have not been given a fair option of a cruise. They are trying to push people to going on the Bliss at over double the price and no Free at Sea offers.

I have flights home booked already and they are not refundable. So I'm out $230. I would not book a trip to LA for 2 weeks. I would do a cruise and a trip to LA to make a 2 week vacation.

Not sure what to do. Such a waste of time. I have spent well over 8 hours planning this vacation. Now I'll probably be spending another 8 or more trying to plan another trip.
