  1. Someone suggested just using umbrellas (sorry, couldn't find the post again to quote you) and that's what my Mom and I came up with last night.

Thanks for the fire warnings and the truth that it'd not likely be allowed. I was trying to desperately figure out a solution before I book the cruises.

Does anyone know if it is especially windy on the aft bump outs? I'd expect that you'd be more sheltered on the inner sections that aren't bump outs.

Would a bump out room at the aft be just a windy mess? I'm talking about the Coral specifically.

I would think that the first cabin in a bump out section would be windy........but the others should be fine. I have stayed in cabins in the aft bump section on the Coral and have not experienced what you are fearing.

You might check with others, but aren't the mini suites on the Dolphin deck fully covered?

You mention that you are looking at the mini suite on the Caribe deck.....did you know that there is a partially covered balcony all the way to the aft that is open for everyone to use........has lounges and is a great place to sit back and watch the wake.

  2. Just because some are getting their passports back in 2 or 3 weeks doesn't mean that can't change in an instant. Last year there was computer problems and in certain areas (US citizens living overseas) where people had to wait till the problem was fixed before they could get their passports processed. And what if you didn't dot an "i" or cross a "t" or they didn't like the photograph you included; that could add time for processing your passport.

Thankfully things usually go smoothly, but don't take that for granted. Glitches happen.

  3. I will be looking for your review. I want to book a mini suite that is fully covered and the only ones are at the front of the ship or the back that get that fully coverage. I too just came across the vibration issue which is making me feel like I shouldn't spend the extra money....so I'll be looking to see how others have fared before deciding.

We have stayed in the mini suite on the Coral.....the last cabin aft on both the port and starboard side. Since you want a covered balcony you wouldn't in the last cabin aft cause these cabins are uncovered. So you would be a little further away from any vibrations.

Now we had also read about a vibration issue someone had after our first sailing in the last cabin aft (port side) and truthfully neither the spouse or I remember any vibrations. So on this most recent sailing where we were in the last cabin aft (starboard side) we were looking from vibrations. On the first night of the cruise we did feel some vibration (not much) and maybe we felt it cause we were looking for it. After the first night we didn't notice any vibrations back there at all. Vibrations bother some people more than others; so it would seem we aren't or weren't bothered by vibrations.

If I had my choice, I would pick a cabin toward the aft rather than forward end of the ship.........just our preference.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Is the Coral an old ship? A beat up ship? Bottom of the category ship?

What caused you to think the Coral is an old beat up ship? Maybe you could give us some insight as to why you have that impression.

I was on the Coral in November of 2015, not long before her last dry-dock and we did not find her "beat up......or bottom of the category". And believe me, if she was in anyway to look "beat up", it would be just before a dry-dock.

The Coral is a great ship and a favorite of many a cruiser.

  5. Aperture priority mode

    Program mode

And 2 other custom modes that you can program camera settings and save the settings for return use are considered manual exposure modes

And any of those settings you can manually adjust WB, ISO, Exposure compensation and aperture

I have not figured out how to manually adjust shutter speed yet though. I know in reviews and specs it says shutter speed can be from 1/2000 to 4 seconds. Just haven't had time to play with it that much. It may not even be adjustable for all I know. the shutter speeds range its claiming may be from the different programmed scenes

But you can adjust Exposure compensation.

    White balance

    ISO

It is not a FULL manual control camera for sure but it does have Aperture priority, White balance, exposure compensation and ISO settings. I just don't think it has shutter priority or manual shutter settings. that would just about make it a FULL manual control camera.

Maybe someday they will come out with a small waterproof camera (like the TG 4) that will have full manual control.....wishful thinking.

  6. It is normal to think your going crazy when a link you have used 1000 times all of a sudden no longer works. When websites upgrade or update pages they rewrite existing links to point to newly created landing pages. All is fine till one day those rewrites expire, then blamo! Your favorite link no longer works.

Been there, done that, shot the monitor and killed the mouse!

    So true.....LOL

Hate it when things that have worked for years suddenly stop.......:D

  7. For me the extra $100 for the TG-4 was worth it for the higher quality images through RAW file. The TG-860 does not shoot in RAW. JPG only.

The TG-4 shoots both RAW and JPG

    Some features the TG-4 has that the TG-860 does not is;

    -Timelapse recording

    -Longer battery life

    -Built in GPS

    -Faster lens and lower aperture

    -Manual exposure mode

-Aperture priority mode <----VERY important with me, I shoot aperture priority most of the time.

-Higher storage buffer for continuous shooting.

    TG-860

Could you please tell me where you have "manual exposure mode" on your TG4? I don't see it mentioned on the reviews of this camera. There is an "aperture exposure mode" which is nice and I see where that there is an "exposure compensation" feature on this camera.....that is a plus too.

Just trying to figure out what you mean when you state that there is an "manual exposure mode" on this camera.

    Any help is appreciated.

  8. I've had no problems logging in all weekend or right now.

I always click on Sign In/Register at the very top rather than the Log In to manage your booking toolbar as the latter does not remember my user name as the former does.

You may want to clear your cache and reboot. It would also help if you told us where you were located (USA, UK, Europe, Australia) as someone in your specific part of the world will may know if there were local issues with the website.

First of all......am in the USA

Second.....if I could get to the log in page, there would be no problem.

Third........Yes I cleared the cache and rebooted before I posted.

This problem is only on my PC. Tried both 'firefox' and 'internet explorer' with same result. Just tried with my I-Pad (both 'chrome' and 'safari') and can get on the Princess site with no problem. So it must be my PC.

Thanks for answering, now I know it is me. :(

OK, found a solution......deleted my link to the Princess site and then used a search engine to go to the Princess site and saved that link.....all is well for now. :D

  9. For the last few days I have gotten this message when I tried to log on to the Princess web site. Is this universal or just limited to a lucky few?

    We’re Having Technical Difficulties

We apologize for any inconvenience and will be back shortly.

    For immediate assistance:

  10. Checked and we had a different captain on our ship for last years Panama Canal cruise.

Our story is a little different........we had never received the passport booklet. On our recent cruise we went down to the Captain Circle and requested one. When the hostess gave us the booklet, she asked if we needed any passport cards.....she opened the drawer and in it were passport cards for all of the destinations. So if you are missing a passport card, you can get a replacement one while on the ship. One caveat though, it won't have the Captain's name stamped on it.

  11. Princess has a limited number of non-alcoholic options on their bar menus which I have sampled but I have also requested some traditional drinks to be served alcohol free such as:

    Strawberry Daiquiri

    Banana Daiquiri

    Pina Colada

    Strawberry Colada

    Margarita

    Strawberry Margarita

Has anyone had success with requesting other non-alcoholic off-menu options and what were they?

    Yes, I have..........Mango Colada.......quite tasty. :D It's like a pinacolada but with mango.

You can order any drink that can be made virgin. You can even made up a drink. You can ask the bartender if he knows of any good mocktails that aren't on the menu. You are only limited by your imagination and ingredients.

  12. I have to admit this sounds a bit crazy, but I'd like to know if I have the Explore4.

I asked my TA and she said no because it would have been marked in her notes, but her notes also say that we have the Pinnacle Grill which we woudn't have booked just on our own. (I also admit to remembering being very excited about having the Explore4 for the drinks package. I don't ever remember knowing that we where not doing this.)

Did your TA print out your confirmation and give those papers to you? If not, go back there and ask her to print them out for you, including the most current one. Check those papers carefully to see what it states you have.

We also booked under the "Explore 4" promotion; on my confirmation papers, page 2 near the top, there is a heading, "Value Added Items".........it shows the drink package and the Pinnacle Grill. So, we know we got the promotion, even though, no where on the confirmation does it state "Explore 4".

  13. You don't need a passport for the cruise. However, look closely at any excursions you might take. We did a round-trip Seattle cruise a few years ago, and there was one excursion on some sort of train that went into Canada (sorry, forgot the details), and this excursion required a passport booklet or a passport card.

Yes, there are some excursions that go out from Skagway that do require you to have a passport. You go across the border and enter Canada.......the Yukon......can go by train or bus or both. We took the bus in one direction and came back by train.

So, before booking an excursion, check the details.

  14. Has anyone tried to use walkie talkies on a cruise ship? My son doesn't have a smart phone so we cannot use the Princess@sea app. Wondered if walkie talkies would work.....

    Igepal

The subject of using "Walkie Talkies" has been discussed a number of times on CC and the majority of reply's are in the negative column of the subject.

Some people say that they had no problem, but others say that "Walkie Talkies" were useless, because of all of the metal on the ship blocked the signal. Of course, many other negative things were also said about "Walkie Talkies".

We don't have smart phones and have not had a problem of "NOT" knowing where the other person was or where to meet up....etc. :)

  15. Another thing to mention, though it doesn't happen often. Check your excursion to see if you are to bring your passport with you. So far it has only happened to us once........and we knew ahead of time that we needed our passport for that particular excursion. No one was allowed to board the bus till they showed the tour guide their passport......everyone had their passport. :D

  16. We did this tour on the Coral in February and my hubby and I were the only ones in long pants and closed shoes. One couple was extremely late and didn't have the waivers signed. Felt pretty out of place with everyone else in shorts and sandals. No one said a word so not sure if they actually require the dress code. We did enjoy the tour very much!

On the letter we received telling us that we were picked to do the tour also included instructions. Part of the instructions included a dress code which everyone followed except one young lady. The longest pants she had was a workout outfit that came to her mid calf. The crew had a discussion as to whether she could go on the tour or not.......they let her go.

My previous post was to warn the OP about the dress code we were expected to follow. If others didn't have a dress code, good for them. I surely would have like to wear shorts instead of long pants as it was in the mid 80's that day. :D

    YMMV

  17. If you do book the tour, there is a dress code. No sandals, no high heels, no shorts, no skirts, etc. You are to wear long pants and regular shoes such as gym shoes. Oh, and do please wear a shirt or blouse. :D

There is a lot of walking and standing......sometimes you will use the elevator and sometimes the stairs. Another thing I should mention.....no potty break.

We did this tour on the Coral and thought it was worth every penny of the cost. The goody bag was worth as much or more than the cost of the tour. The plush bathrobe alone is priced at $90, if you were to buy it in the gift shop.

  18. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like a problem with the lock, not an issue of the card being demagnetized.

One would think.....but as I said, the spouse's card worked fine tho mine didn't. If it had been the lock wouldn't you think that the spouse's card would NOT have worked.

Here's hopping that there is no problems with the card on the up coming cruise. :)

  19. Yes, had that happen on the Star. Every few days my card stopped working. At one time they gave me a replacement card and that didn't work.....so they had a guy do something to the door and the cards worked again. Funny thing was, when my original card worked the replacement card worked......when the original card didn't work, the replacement card didn't' work (and I had kept the replacement card in the room away from phones tablets, cameras etc). All the while, the spouse's card worked just fine, never a problem......go figure.

  20. I called Princess too and apparently I wasn't the first caller to report the problem. The agent said to wait a few days and the problem should be corrected. A few minutes ago I checked my personalizer, and it is back to normal. Yea! Now I can get back to watching 'The Love Boat'.

  21. I have an upcoming cruise in my personalizer and for the last several months it has shown that all of my information was complete. Now, today when I log in, it it showing "incomplete". I checked everything and the only thing that is missing is the expiration date of the credit card. (It was there before.) So I reentered the data and saved it; then when I look again it is missing. I think this is a glitch on their part, put who knows. Has anyone else had this happen to them.

And yes, I entered my data correctly and the expiration date is long, long after the cruise.
