  1. I like to keep track of where the Queens are and I notice that the arrival of QM2 is very delayed into NYC. Has there been an issue on the way? I hope that folk aren’t too inconvenienced with such a late arrival.

  2. Using deck 9 as a corridor to walk along to the A stairway is a great route...well, we enjoyed it as it is smarter than the other decks being QG (somewhere we can only dream of right now!). It was fun glancing into the rooms where the door was propped open to sneak a peak at their size! The corridor had smart wall lamps and nicer paintings in the wall - with the bonus of the commodore lounge at the end!

  3. Welcome to the wonderful world of Cunard. I’m sure you’ll love it. Enjoy the QG - something we are yet to try (but will do one day!)

Table tennis is hidden away behind the spa pool area (its outdoors but under shelter)

    Happy sailing!

I love the new lobby carpets but I have to agree with you about them ‘looking’ dirty. My husband noticed it straight away. (I’ve added a photo so hope it works!)

On the whole, the remastered QM2 is fabulous. It looks modernised but without being too modernistic. A lovely update to a beautiful ship.

Our sheltered balcony had been ‘done’ and as far as I know they all have.

  5. Now, let me say at the very start that there is no way I’d ever be in the position to sail in either of these (unless I win the lottery!) so my question is purely quizzical. When on QM2 last week we were looking up at the windows below the bridge & trying to work out which room was behind them. Commodore lounge, library etc. Looking at the deck plan shows the ones on deck 10 are suites 10,001 and 10,002. Is it right that they don’t have a balcony though? I think if I was spending so much for a room that I’d want some private outdoor space. Oh, to have such a dilemma when choosing a suite!

  6. We were in cabinet n 4074 and our children were in 4156 - both were great locations. Low and central enough to not feel movement and not far to any activities. I have to admit that on one evening, the lower 4000 numbers would have heard the theatre music as we walked down the corridor we were surprised at how loud it was (not that it’s going on for long though)

I’d definitely book deck 4 again.

  7. We have just returned from a wonderful crossing on QM2. Whilst onboard there were, unfortunately, a number of medical emergencies (praying for speedy recoveries all round. Obviously, won’t ever know details) I know that some onboard events are labelled with a code word and on one morning my husband and I are sure we heard ‘this is the bridge - fanfare, fanfare, fanfare’. Did we hear it right? If so, what does it mean? We tried googling it but to no avail. On a similar note- with a 2am tannoy call for a medical response team to go to the medical centre, do the necessary team not have pagers? (I am absolutely not complaining, just intrigued at the workings of the ship)

  8. We disembarked QM2 yesterday - never a good thing!! Cuba d arranged our transfers to JFK and we were grateful to them for organising a luggage store at Hilton Midtown for a few hours so that we could have a quick visit to Times Square before our evening flight. The transfers were excellent. As we took off and turned slightly to head back to England I managed to catch a glimpse of the gorgeous QM2 as she sailed off. Stunning! Happy sailing - we loved our week. Cabin 4074 was perfect for the crossing

  9. We are just on QM2 with 16 &13 year d boys. There is a teen zone for them and at check in we could see quite a number of children and youngsters. We haven’t done Cunard with them before so will wait and see how it goes but I am optimistic.

  10. We shall be heading off on QM2 to NYC from Southampton in a few weeks. We are actually flying straight back as the voyage is our holiday. On arrival, do they only have the option of being transferred straight to the airport or (as we did in Athens last year) offer a day trip into the city during the day? Alternatively, do they allow evening flights to stay onboard longer? (Which was an option also in Athens last year on Q.V.)

  11. We have 16 & 13 year old sons. Does anyone have any experience of travelling on QM2 with 'children' of that age? Are the clubs any good? We've taken them on Princess before which they loved but our Cunard trips have been without them so didn't need to consider the youth activities. Deciding on a possible trip. Thanks in advance!

  12. Cunard also have now introduced kettles into their cabins. P&O are hardly likely to remove them. The trouble is so many of these stupid rumours start and then they are repeated as truths. Goodness knows how many times Oriana has been sold, or about to be sold, ridiculous.

I'm sure it'll be untrue however, Princess have taken kettles away (or at least they had on Emerald last summer) so you can't be sure.

  13. Looks like a good start to our first Cunard cruise! Looked on Manchester airports departures info at 4am to see if our 8.30am was going on time it said CANCELLED!!!

Went to the airport time changed to 13.40pm .Technical problems we are told and they have borrowed a bigger plane and we have open seating. Not too optimistic about going even then. Looks like the ship will be waiting for us and will probably be nearer midnight when we get there.

I'm intrigued by open seating as I thought they had to balance the plane.

Our (new) friends that we met on board flew from MAN on 19 Aug to Trieste with Titan and had a 767 half full so after take off they spread out for space. The other TItan plane had real hassle checking in at MAN on that day.

  14. We disembarked QV last Sat and have (new) friends that left yesterday to fly home on the Titan return flight. They were kept on board fortunately but on arrival at the airport were dumped by Cunard. They messaged to say that it was 'carnage' with staff shouting.

I checked mar traffic just now to see that QV left at 6:30 so I'm guessing not a successful transfer day. Cunard have really got to do something with these issues. Certainly puts me off doing another fly cruise. Back to Southampton for us!

  15. I'm so sorry to hear this. We were on the LHR flight (8pm) and saw the Manchester flight had been delayed.

We'd booked a day trip through another company for yesterday. I was pleased we did it (obviously not an option for MAN flight). I was annoyed though that Cunard didn't advertise their disembarkation day trips nor that our transfer would have been 4pm if we'd used it until we were onboard.

It's awful that there was no food for you plus all the delays. Although not Cunards 'fault' as such I think they should take responsibility for the charter that they organised for you. It does feel a lot like 'you're off the ship so not our problem'.

It was hard to capture it on camera but in 'real life' it was very obvious. The blue oblong was not parallel to the edges and none of it matched the other sections of carpet.

It didn't spoil my trip of course and caused some hilarity amongst our new friends. Someone signed off on that work but shouldn't have! The rest of the ship is immaculate and beautiful.

I hope this picture works! It shows (not very clearly) the final section of new carpet which was wonky/off centre. Not good for those of us with a touch of OCD.

  18. We were on the 19-26 Aug part of this trip. We love Cunard (tried Po & Princess last couple of years). We live that, despite being full, she didn't feel crammed and there was a relaxed atmosphere. It was our first fly cruise experience. We live an hour away from Southampton so it's really handy. It felt a bit of a hassle getting to the ship but it was worth it. We don't live Cunard style at home so enjoy the luxuries. We did notice some changes - fortunately not enough to spoil our trip but enough for us to look at other lines/options for future trips. Drinks were expensive- we certainly drank less than usual. I didn't use the spa - which I have before - as it seemed so costly. 22% tax was high as we were in EU waters and if anyone wanted to buy duty free alcohol/cigs they'd have been disappointed as they weren't on sale. There were less staff wandering around selling/delivering drinks on deck. I liked that the photographers were more subtle. Kettles in the room - great!

Refit - was worried that the club restaurant would create a dull corridor on the way to the Britannia restaurant but it actually looks lovely. (Despite a carpet issue! The end panel was wonky!)

We found the staff to be excellent- as always.

We were on early sitting (not by choice!) and found that getting dressed up (which we love to do) was very early, missing the best part of the day!

All in all - a wonderful week which was topped off by meeting the most amazing table mates.

  19. Hi there, have only done one transatlantic with Cunard, so probably not the best to give advice! But just wanted to say that on our crossing we didn't notice any kids at all!! I am sure there must have been a few somewhere, but it certainly wasn't like cruises we have done with Royal Caribbean etc where they were full of families. Our 17 year old even struggled to find any teenagers her own age. She did one day go to the teen club to have a look and see if anyone there but there was no one (she did check the program before going)!!!! We loved our Cunard holiday but if considering activities and kids clubs for your boys, it may not be what you are looking for.

Thank you, I think you could be right. I'll save QM2 for a grown ups holiday!

  20. I've travelled on each of the Queens in the past but without my children. Having done a cruise (on Princess) last year with them they have now caught the cruise bug. I know that there are children's clubs but what are they like? We are keen to return to Cunard this year but don't want to spoil the childrens' holiday. (Both boys that will be 15&12).

I'd be keen to hear experiences of the clubs to help us decide whether to take the plunge! Thanks.

  21. Boring? I'd imagine that it's really exciting to creep further into the Amazon. How would it be any more boring than any other trip? (Which, of course, they're not!)

  22. We took our children on their (not our) first cruise last year to Norway. It was 2 weeks up to the North cape but we called into the Fjords too. They loved it and, like us, didn't want to come home. They were 11 and 14 at the time and it was a good mix of time with us and time in their club. Socially, it's a great option as cruising is a great way of meeting others. On cruise ships, people readily chat to each other. There are often social gatherings for solo travellers too.

At the ports...petrol museum at Stavanger, little train in olden, proper train in flam, red bus tour in gerainger...the Fjords are perfect for not booking a ship excursion (which are expensive).

Cruise ships handle rough weather well and I found my children loved a bit of movement.

Be prepared for uk weather...it could be hot, it could be wet.

    Do it!
