  1. There was nothing in the horizon newspaper at all about disembarking procedures. A tannoy message came as we dressed for dinner but that's easy to miss if you're in your cabin. The only place we saw it written down was the back page of the 'Discover' magazine. It was hidden at the back and could easily be missed. My feeling is that wanted more people to self disembark. It really did feel as if they wanted rid of us. There was no staggering of times to leave.

The parking was 'Cruise Parking' (yellow & blue signage). We've never queued before with them and I'm sure it was due to most of the ship getting off in a short space of time.

  2. Although I enjoyed breakfast this morning in the peninsula restaurant I have to say we weren't keen on disembarkation. We did not get any information about how to leave cases etc until later on yesterday. We've cruised before so had an idea of what to expect. However, some tablemates knew nothing until we outlined the need to pack that evening. We got the impression this morning that they just wanted rid of us. To be all off by 9 is the earliest I've ever known and I felt the attitude was somewhat 'push off'. With so many people leaving all at once it did cause queues for the car park minibus.

I understand that this is. It how P&O normally handle it but that it's more in line with our experience on Cunard with coloured labels and staggered disembarkation.

  3. Having just come off Oriana this morning I have to agree with the post above. As our first non-Cunard cruise we went with an open mind. There were a number of positive aspects - entertainment for one. But on the whole the ship is dated and tatty. Rust was evident and maintenance seemed lacking. Time for a revamp. Enjoyed our mini cruise but shan't be repeating it on oriana.

  4. I've just come off today too! It was our first P&O having only used Cunard before. I was impressed with the precautions taken to avoid norovirus. They can seem OTT but very necessary. However, as far as the ship was concerned I found it to be tatty and tired. There was dust in our cabin - unacceptable and there were a lot of scratches. Water etc was great and the shower (over a bath) was excellent. The furniture is quite dated but there was a lot of storage. The bedding cushions were faded, as was the valance. I'm not keen on the bed being under the window but that's a personal preference but it did mean clambering on the bed to close them! I think that the 'twin' layout would work better. There was a running joke about the public toilets not working causing queues.

What did surprise me was that the linen for the next cruise was left in our room last night. I really didn't like that.

I thought the entertainment was excellent - John Evans (comedian) was fabulous, the Brit Tones (4 piece singers) were brilliant and the onboard singers/dancers were very good. The entertainment director was superb and really added to the atmosphere.

All in all we've had a great few days and were very, very impressed with P&O's customer service and communication. We are glad we did it - Guernsey and Brugges were wonderful but shan't be on Oriana again.

  5. All true! We are meant to be on her right now but instead we are at home with cases at the ready! I have to say that P&O have been excellent at keeping us informed about what's happening. They can't help the weather and safety is paramount. It's disappointing to miss one night but in the grand scheme of things it's not the end of the world. Will just have to make the most of the 3 nights!

  6. Trying not to panic as I read these replies...first ever P&O trip begins on Tuesday on Oriana. Only travelled with Cunard before. Quite prepared for it to be different.

  7. I agree with the 2 replies. If you go on a ship tour (or indeed a privately arranged tour) at any port this is the one to do it at. Apart from avoiding visa costs it will enable you to get the most out of your visit. It's an amazing city.

  8. I have loved reading the regular updates about this trip. I'm many years away from being able to do the world but I'm living it through the descriptions on here!

My husband has just told me that a friend of ours (& his wife) will be joining the ship in Singapore so I'll have to hear more info from them. *not* envious at all!!

  9. As Cunard cruisers only (so far!) my husband and I are looking at a trip on Azura to the Fjords in the summer. I have trawled the P&O website and can't find anywhere that says how much is added to the bar bill. I've found the £5 a day added to the onboard account but not how much it is for the drinks. It's not necessarily a deal breaker but would be useful to know.

Whilst at it...any comments on Azura would be useful. You Tube clips look great but we have read a couple of less than positive reviews. Having said that, I'm very keen and am close to persuading my husband!

  10. That's a good point about the couch - we were in an inside cabin once and missed the chance to sit on something other than the bed. Mind you, good excuse to sit in a bar!!

You've all successfully put me off an atrium view room. I'll save the money and put it towards my bar bill!

  11. Thank you all for your comments. I did wonder if having a window - even if the blind was down, might psychologically make you fell less enclosed than an inside. Mind you, I'd travel in a cupboard of it gave me the chance to experience QM2 again!

  12. Last time we sailed on QM2 we were fortunate enough to be able to be in a balcony cabin but successive years of feeding my cruise habit means we need to be slightly more frugal now! Are the atrium rooms a step up from inside cabins? Does the window make the room feel larger or does it feel like a goldfish bowl? Can you hear any noise from the lobby? Any experience from people that have sailed in one would be gratefully received! Thanks.

  13. On QV Baltic trip last summer we had 2 early shows - something I'd not come across before. They were because we were due in port early the next day with v early starts for tours. I would imagine that the TA will stick to 10:30 shows for 8:30 sitting. Mind you, I find my body clock adapts to the new pattern quite quickly - late to bed, late up!
