Does it take any time for Royal Caribbean to add their travel protection insurance to the booking and forward the updated information to the TA? The TA I call is actually a customer service representative of a large online travel company. Do they have to wait for another department of that company to send the guest copy of the invoice? Thanks for your assistance

I booked a cruise through a travel company’s website, I called the travel company and requested that they call Royal Caribbean and ask them to add their travel protection insurance. I received an updated invoice from the travel company that shows the new price of cruise with the added insurance, however it is not itemized with the breakdown of the cruise fare and insurance. Does Royal Caribbean provide a guest copy of invoice showing the itemized breakdown. How long does it take after adding the insurance for the travel company to request the updated invoice from Royal Caribbean so it can be sent to me?

Thanks for your review, it was great to read this, especially from the viewpoint of a frequent Royal Caribbean cruiser.

I wonder if they scale down the buffet on the last night to encourage guests to eat in the main dining room. This way the people that remove their automatic gratuities and claim that they are going to tip in cash will go to the dining room on the last night and actually give the dining room crew their tips.

Why haven't daily gratuities gone down?

Agree The cruise line crew that work behind the scenes and those who work in positions that have directly contact with guests agree to their compensation based on the DSC. When you pay the DSC you contribute to that salary plan that is acceptable to the crew when signing their employment contract. I personally don’t like that method, however I pay the DSC because I feel that I contributed to their agreed compensation and don’t want to disrupt it. If a crew member goes over and above, I give them cash as a thank you, I want to enjoy my cruise and not obsess over what crew members get paid, it is not my business. When booking the cruise, I consider the cruise fare, taxes, fees and the DSC as a part of the total cost. -

Virgin has gratuities that are paid for by the passenger, that amount is built into the price of the cruise. This may be a better method because they pay their crew the amount that is agreed when a crew member accepts a position. If you book a cruise with Virgin and pay the cruise fare, you don’t have to concern yourself with any of the debates going on in this discussion. -
Thanks for reporting back, glad your family enjoyed their vacation

The experience you are looking for can be found for a similar price on Celebrity or Princess.

If you are not out drinking and partying with the rowdy spring breakers in the overnight hours during the 2 weeks of the year that they congregate in Miami Beach, you will be fine.
