  1. Slightly veering off topic here but following on from Hawaiidan's excellent post above - am I right in thinking that The Terrace offers the GDR's evening meals as well as a different selection? Also do you have to ask for the menus for the next day to be delivered, or is this something they do automatically? On previous cruises, it's been my job to go and take pictures of the menu outside the MDR and let Marital Unit see them so we can make a decision on whether to make the trip, so particularly happy if they arrive so he can decide what he fancies. I've not cruised with Oceania yet, but know from experience that after a long tour I am generally too tired to do the full "Look lovely for dinner" shenanigans, and if I can slum it clothing wise a little to go to the Terrace, that would make this weary traveller's holiday much easier. We will definitely be doing the pre 8am trick for extra dining reservations - what a fab tip - thank you!

  2. I cannot imagine the level of energy it takes to bring about such bile and anger over a grilled cheese sandwich. I do wonder how these people make it out of their house and into the real world for more than a few hours without expiring from the terrible realities of life in general. We're just about to book 10 days on Marina next October, and I am beyond excited at the prospect of not having to cook for 10 days let alone have some amazing treats whilst not cooking! I think Marital Unit and I will stick to 2 tops to keep ourselves away from moaning minnies. Thank you for all the lovely comments about food that are ramping up my excitement level!

  3. I recently had to leave a complaint on the Facebook page of a luxury cruise line (not Oceania) as I had filled in their online form for a quote, and asked explicitly in the text box that I did not want to be contacted via phone, but instead via email. I was rung within 4 hours and politely explained to the chap on the other end that I had explicitly asked not to be called and to be contacted via email only. Every week since then the same number has contacted me. I posted on the Facebook site of the company in question that if they couldn't follow simple directions, then I certainly couldn't entrust several thousand of my hard earned pounds to them or mine or my husbands life to a company that couldn't carry out simple requests such as not to contact us via phone. I did get a very sheepish apology and haven't been contacted since.

  4. Thanks for this, I didn't realise there was paid and unpaid wait lists. Does anyone have any experience with results for these two options? Thanks in advance :)

  5. Hi all I hope you can help. DH and I are looking at a cruise on Nautical next year for our anniversary. The cabin grade we are looking at is marked as waitlisted. Whilst I understand the concept, in people's general experience, do these cabins eventually become available, and do you or your TA contact Oceania with a potential booking to get in the line to get a waitlisted grade of cabin - how does it work? Is it worth holding out hope for one of these cabins to become available over and above something a grade or two up that is classed as a guarantee? We've cruised before with Celebrity but haven't seen waitlisting used within their booking process. The cruise in question is over a year away if that makes any difference with people's experiences. Thanks all!

  6. It wouldn't bother me to have to wait listening to inane music for 15 minutes, most music on hold is quite inane. I'd prefer to wait 15 minutes than have to pay even more for a cruise than I do at the moment, due to them having staff waiting to pick up a call on the first ring. I agree it is bad customer service not to reply, but to be fair your letter of complaint didn't actually ask for a response, and you don't make it clear from any cc's that I can see that your complaint was going anywhere but the boss. You had a bit of a moan, told them get some analysis of their call records and pre empted their reply. I am sure there is a sarcasm smiley somewhere, maybe there's an analyst you can get to do a recce for you to find it :D I'd definitely suggest removing your postcode from your mail as well, it's rather insecure.

  7. Thanks all very helpful! As long as I can give them an idea of what's going to happen it will make it easier for them, they are mobile, but we think wheelchairs will be good for embarkation because of all the potential standing/waiting around and the long walk to the ship. They are both very independent and I think that being in a wheelchair will be a difficult enough situation for them so this has really helped me to help them be a bit more in control of the situation so thanks again!

  8. Hi all. I wonder if anyone can share their experience of wheelchair assistance for embarkation/disembarkation at the Ocean Terminal in Southampton?

There are 4 of us travelling in May on Britannia, my elderly parents and my sister and I, both my parents have requested assistance.

If someone would be kind enough to give me a run through of what happens, so I can explain to them the procedure then it will make the experience less disruptive for them.

    Thanks in advance!

  9. I've cruised in an aft balcony before and agree they are in a fabulous position. I'd be miffed to lose that!

At the moment we are looking at being midships on the A deck, as that's the only place that grade is situated. It's under the lido deck which might cause an issue, although tbh our aft on Eclipse was under the open part of the buffet on a med cruise, and there wasn't that much noise, and B507 is a Fjords cruise, so potentially not that much pool use etc.

As part of the equation is the unknown element of Britannia cabins and location, it's an interesting conundrum.

Keep em coming, and thanks for the replies so far!

  10. I've booked 4 of us in 2 Superior Deluxe Cabins on Britannia in May - B507. Currently we are in DA grade on a Gty fare. Given that P and O have in the last few days stated that the ship is 70% booked up through til April 2016 and is their fastest selling ship, I'm guessing that the cruise is going to be very close to full, in the experience of the collective mind of this forum, what do you think the chances of the upgrade fairy throwing us a bone? Is the ship being less or more full conducive to said fairy visiting?

Also fill us with hope and tell me the best upgrade fairy story you have!

    Thanks in advance!

  11. I wonder if one of you kind souls can tell me if it's possible to have more than one account attached to a cabin. Travelling in May with my parents in one cabin and my sister and I in another cabin (we're both adults). Can my sister and I have two accounts so we both pay our own way?

Sorry if this is a silly question, I've only ever cruised with hubby before, and we shared an account on those occasions.

    Thanks in advance!

  12. Looking forward to hearing/seeing Perry for the first time in May. I have to say last year the Baltic cruise we did rivalled temps anywhere in the med..it was amazing! Don't think there won't be sun in the baltics in the summer...there most certainly is!
