  1. I sail in October...Where on Getaway have you found is the best place to enjoy sail away while enjoying the beautiful view of Miami?

I'm sure any place would be great. Just wondering if there's a more breathtaking place than others. I've sailed out of Miami twice but on smaller ships and with Getaway being bigger I'm sure it's different!

  2. Don't blame the cruise line for your lack of knowledge. Is this your first time sailing NCL? If so, maybe you should've done your research before booking. There's plenty of people who's aware of this policy so it's not like they just came up with it on your sailing.

Suck it up buttercup. Pay the gratuities just like everyone else. It's part of cruising!

I hope that you can put this behind you and enjoy the rest of your cruise!

  3. How did you get the balcony upgrade? I booked a studio on the 8-9-14 Getaway just a few days ago. I'm excited about the cruise, but would LOVE to have a balcony room if it did not cost me double. Im on a tight budget as this is my 4th solo cruise in 12 months.

Hi! For my sailing a studio cabin and a guarantee balcony were the same price! I originally booked a studio and then have been watching the prices like crazy and also someone on my Roll Call brought it to my attention. So, I only had to pay a difference of $150. Which to me is perfectly worth it! I know it's only a guarantee, but to be able to open a door and see the ocean it's totally worth every penny! I tried looking at your sailing but it says the studios are sold out so I am not sure how much you paid for yours but the guarantee balcony is $1832 (Including Port taxes & Fees). So if you paid anything close to that, take advantage of upgrading! Good luck & Happy Sailing!

  4. Hello all!

I was originally booked in a studio for my Getaway cruise in October. As of yesterday I am now booked in a balcony guarantee! Talking about EXCITED! For the exact same price that I was going to stay in a tiny room with no view, I am now staying in a decent size room with a balcony!!!! I'm not trying to picky (haha) but I do hope I get a good cabin...

Has anyone had good luck with booking guarantee balconies? It stinks that I have to wait so long to get an assigned number but I'll take it. =)

The BX is the lowest level of balcony category, there are 9 levels of balcony cabins above that which you could be assigned.....or there's a small possibility you could be moved to a higher category like a spa or mini-suite category......or even a Haven suite....but only a small chance for those.

Thank you so much!! Now the waiting game begins! Once they assign the cabin number do they ever change it without me knowing, or is that something that's set in stone?

  6. With a guarantee category you can be assigned any cabin in that category or higher. You'll definitely enjoy any of the balcony cabins, and can still meet others in the studio lounge during their regular meeting time in the early evening. :)

Honestly I don't too much care for the meetings..Just booked the studio because is was the most reasonable price. Lol. How can I tell what categories are higher than BX? I just like to look and kill time...or days to say the least. LOL!!!! Thanks for your reply by the way!

  7. When I booked Getaway for October 2014 I originally booked a Studio...As of today my TA has changed me to a Balcony Guarantee...When I look it says that it's a Balcony Guarantee on deck 8-Forward in BX. Looking at the deck plan on deck 8 there's only 4 of those cabin categories. I understand that I will not get assigned a cabin number until after final payment, but just wondering if I should expect to get assigned one of the four available? I just don't see with only having FOUR that one will be available. So I am preparing myself for anything, but hoping for a good cabin. Which going from a studio to a balcony what could possibly be bad. Lol! Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advanced!

  8. I went on the Pearl 2 years ago...(At that time they had a slide...it has since been removed) and I am going on Getaway in October. (First big ship) As of now, I would lean more toward the Pearl. The ONLY downfall the Pearl has is the ability to be chartered. It is the chartered ship for NCL.

From what I hear Getaway has a ton of things for children to do. So you have to ask yourself...Are you sailing just to see that particular island, or are you sailing for the ship? If you're sailing for the ship go Getaway. If you're sailing for the one non-visited island, go Pearl.

Let us know what you decide!

    Happy Sailing!

  9. Thanks so much for the above suggestions!!!! Neither of us need wheel chairs but our knees will make in impossible for us to HURRY to our connection. If we could get some sort of transportation would be ideal but when and who do I contact for this service.?

I would suggest calling (404)549-9248. This is for a Customer Care Representative. They assist travelers throughout the airport as you enter and exit the plane. Explain your situation to them. Don't feel bad about using this assistance. I hope that this helps.

  10. If the airline is the one who actually was the cause of the layover and it wasn't something you originally booked I would imagine the airport would assist you as much as possible. They have people driving golf carts around so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to help you. I would probably be in touch with someone ahead of time just to give them a heads up. I live here in Georgia and I agree, the Atlanta airport is enormous. I hope that everything works out for you.

    Safe travels.

  11. For the past two days I've been trying trying to find what 7-10 day cruises are going out of Miami in fall 2015 and early 2016. The NCL sight shows 0, is it screwed up or is it too early to see them?

    Thanks

I've been looking for a cruise October 2015 with NCL and the only thing I can find is Getaway...Which goes to the same ports as always. I'll be cruising on Getaway this year and wanted something different as I will be turning the big 3-0..I wish they would add more ships or something. So I totally know where you're coming from.

  12. Does Carnival offer kids sail free? If so when does it usually come? Looking to cruise October 2015 with some family and they have kids so to get that offer would be great. This will be the first time for me sailing Carnival so I'm not aware of how they do things. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  13. First, have your workmates cruised before? They see TV ads with people in penthouses in formal wear, drinking champagne, eating lobster. I think its your responsibility to tell them sq. footage of cabin, closet space(one bag only, no prom dresses) One bathroom(all toiletries kept in cosmetic bag),Bring makeup mirror to prevent hogging bath. Alert them to cocktail prices, excursion prices etc. You are not a cruise guide so tell them to go to library for cruises/ports books. They should know you can lose cruise deposit if they cancel(I bet one will cancel!) Who gets top berths? No guys in cabin. No drunks. No TV after.....PM.Early or late seating, Big table or dine by yourselves? Laundry hanging in bath ?Are they aware of miscellaneous cruise costs? Daily auto tips to their CCs? shore taxis? shore dining? If it were me, I would insist on 2 in cabin. Pricing will not be much more. I see this as a very stressful situation. Working with someone is so different than 24 hour socialization, tiny spaces and travel. Comments anyone?

I could definitely see where you're coming from and how spending days with someone is totally different than spending hours. Lol. I cruise with my BFF. But we've been Bestfriends for 15 years. Maybe their relationship is the same. idk. But I can see where having 3 bodies in one cabin could be a disaster. But you can't go into it thinking that way. Otherwise it will turn out exactly how you planned. A horrible trip. Just go and have as much fun as possible. Depending on the cost I could see myself paying extra just to have my own space. But that's just me. Haha.

  14. I agree with communication being the key. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't feel obligated to do things with them. Yes, you are staying in the same cabin but that doesn't mean you have to do everything together. I would consider your trip a cheap solo way of cruising. The more in a cabin, the cheaper the price. Right?

Be considerate of the others. Try not to take too long of showers, don't hog the mirrors, don't use all of the outlets (since they are limited), don't make a lot of noise if you're up before everyone else, and if you do decide on doing everything together while on the ship, give everyone a chance to pick something. Maybe each person could get a day they can plan for the entire group. Just some suggestions. I hope that you have a wonderful trip!

I'll be interested to see what others say too! :D

  15. Cruising is my absolute favorite way to vacation, but I have a difficult time finding friends or family to go... After reading these posts I am thinking that I WILL try cruising solo. I have a little anxiety about it...but I think I want to try. I think I would feel perfectly safe cruising solo, just a little worried about feeling lonely.

I can totally understand where you're coming from. I can make friends with strangers, so talking to others is not an issue for me. But being in my studio cabin alone all the time might be. haha. I guess I'll start talking to myself..Then that would be an issue. LOL!!!!

You should look into booking the Getaway October 2014. There's a lot of singles going that I'm aware of. I'll have to adjust to not having a window to view the beautiful water but I will certainly not die without one.

Just think...It will be something you could say you have done. What an accomplishment! Not too many people go to the bathroom alone..much less vacation! =)
