1. Warkick for those in the "know" as when he sailed

On the QE2. & QM2 he would "kick A"

Never

Avoid a storm. Head directly into the rough

Seas. The rough seas:D

So he was a really crappy captain then...thanks for the info. Glad he's retired now and Captains who don't go out of their way to make passengers uncomfortable have taken his place

2. Commodore "Warkick" was in charge when I was on the Maiden Tandem voyage in April 2004 with the QE2 alongside for the ride

The ocean was smooth as silk. What the QM2 was meant for!

3. Only 25 more days until the magnificent Queen Mary 2 sails from Southhampton on a spectacular 10th Anniversary transatlantic crossing to Brooklyn, USA.

Accompanied out of Southampton by the Queen Vic and Queen Liz to the sounds of anthems and fireworks.

Prince Phillip will be aboard for lunch on sailing day and Commodore Warwick and ship architect Dr Stephen Payne will be along for the crossing

Not bad for a misused "Liner"[emoji106]

4. Hong Kong right now.

emyty2e4.jpg

The waters in that pic look way way way too calm. QM2 is a LINER and should only be allowed to dock or anchor in seas higher than 8 feet!!!

5. R

So does that mean if the Atlantic is calm there should be no crossing that week?

Correct

Effective immediately the QM2 will.be held in Southhampton or Brooklyn and sailings will.only be scheduled during midwinter or when hurricanes, monsoons and icebergs are in the forecast and preferably into the teeth of the storms at 35 knots so that passengers will be miserable and seasick for 3 1/2 days to prove she is a "liner" and not a "cruise ship".

That is the new Cunard business model

Commodore Turquoise 6 and Captains Bligh and Queeg presiding on the bridge

6. Not saying they should never cross in the winter but the idea that the QM2 making an annual world cruise is "wasting" this ship is IMO unsupported by current cruise ship market demand and the mission to provide safe, comfortable and luxurious service to passengers

7. Your case has been submitted 700 times on this forum and dismissed 699 times. There is zero need for dead of winter TA cruises on the freezing and gale ridden North Atlantic. I know that back when you were young the Mauritania, Gripsholm and the like were needed for such trips as those propeller and sea planes were expensive and uncomfortable. Thankfully jets now can get you to London in 7-8 hours in the coldest winter months so the.QM2 can provide a luxurious world cruise in warm seas until early May

8. Thanks

A few caviats. The activity calculator, unlike Active Link, makes no allowance for a base daily activity level and, for example, awards an activity point for 15 minutes of low intensity walking which can lead to over valuing daily activities.

Also it appears to allow the continued use of the old points which can also lead to errors in valuing foods

A nice website but not a substitute for the real thing

9.
Oh yes , you are right. There will be
Lots of celebrations in 2014
Just received the QM2 Transatlantic
Schedule for summer.
P.S. I did an eastbound transatlantic
On S/S Queen Elizabeth in 2013
But it was missing something.:(
It's not the RMS Queen Mary 2
I thought QE was great last year for Trans Canal, San Pedro-NY

Loved the Grills al fresco dining deck and Verandah is far superior to Todd English. I believe they are booting Todd out of Queen Vic and hopefully QM2 will follow suit
10. Very nice. Sailing from Southampton with

The 2 other Queens is exciting. The QM2

Will be in front.

So you will be flying over to UK and

Sail back?

Flying via Icelandair to Paris for a couple then the chunnel to London for a couple and Cunard xfer from St Pancras to S'hampton on sail date

Here's the definition of "favorable wind" copied from http://www.seatalk.info/cgi-bin/nautical-marine-sailing-dictionary/db.cgi?db=db&uid=default&FirstLetter=f&sb=Term&view_records=View+Records&nh=2

1) A direction of the wind under which a vessel can sail to its destination without beating. 2) A wind which is neither too strong nor too light.

Seems to me that a wind that blows a functional ocean liner into port 24 hours ahead of schedule would have to be rather strong.

And no, seavoyager, I don't see "a vast conspiracy", but I do think there's more to the story. Maybe I missed something, but I haven't seen any comment from Cunard as to the reason for the change in schedule. -S.

You and NCLgirl keep investigating this HUGE MAJOR "OneextranightinFreemantlegate" scandal. Maybe you'll solve the Kennedy Assassination too.

Good Luck

12. I guess they didn't want to alarm passengers so far out from Port. But they in port now so "helpful winds" doesn't cut it anymore.

It's still another 25 days Salacia. March 10 for 23 wonderful nights. I'm keen. :p

QM2 circumnavigates Australia Perth to Perth then she's on her way to me in Adelaide.

Or maybe, just maybe it was favorable wind..

Nah...couldn't...has to be a vast conspiracy to keep something from the passengers and the world!

after all, " something's afoot"

13.
None! There is one 28 day rt from New York
In May 2014 : it goes to Hamburg & Southampton twice and around
Norway
You and the other 10 average passengers on the typical B2B TA from Brooklyn (out of 6500) should show your anger by waiting in a line with a buzzer for "free style" dining on Norwegian

Have a wonderful time
14.
There was a time when the QM2 had winter cruises from NY
I know because I booked at least 4
There was more transatlantic service
From April.
There was a lot less Norway and northern
Europe cruises in the middle of transatlantic
Service
NCL Breakaway services NY and sails to
Bermuda , Bahamas and Caribbean with a consistent
Schedule ( this was the plan of the QM2)
The ship is beautiful ! Great restaurants
Buffet is amazing. High tech. And there is an upper class
Like the Grilles. And private deck , hot tubs bAr
And pool
And no flying:)
Don't knock it unless you tried it:eek:
Tried Norwegian once. That was more than enough.

Enjoy it. My guess is QM2 will survive, nevertheless..
15. O
Hi fellow Cunarders:
My January 2014 "The Cunarder" arrived today.
Since turq is apparently readying herself for lining up with a buzzer to wait 15 minutes for a table, uncaring service and mediocre food ---- the magic of NCL "free style dining"--- plus shorts, sweats and cutoffs on "formal nights"

I'll pass along the scheduled Cunard events from the Cunarder mentioned

1 In honor of the 175th anniversary of Mr Cunards first scheduled Brittania TA all three Queens will be returning to the Mersey and Liverpool on 25 May 2015. Details of where they go from there to be announced

2 On July 4, exactlly 175 years to the day, the "retired out of reach glorified yacht" Queen Mary 2 will depart from Liverpool and retrace the steps of the Brittania to Halifax and then Boston.
16. one other very important plus that QE currently has over both QM2 and QV is the excellent Verandah restaurant vs the pedestrian rehash of a New England hash house known as Todd English.... fortunately, QV is already kicking his overrated Fig and Olives out in favor of Verandah and QM2 will be following suit, I believe as soon as contracts allow

17.
I understand your point about there not being enough interest in B2B crossings, and from what I observed last year, there were several times where the fare for crossings was substantially reduced on both sides of the pond after final payment date. I'm not sure what that indicates.

Regarding "more than a score of scheduled Cunard voyages to and from NYC":
Other than voyages involving trans-Atlantic crossings, I found 4 QM2 cruises sailing round trip from NYC this year: the 5-night July Canada cruise, 12 night NE/Canada cruises - one each in Sept and Oct, and the 12 night Caribbean Holiday cruise in December. -S.
My total included TAs obviously so I think we are both close to agreement on QM2 voyages from and to Brooklyn.
18. Fu
But the Qm2 was fully booked . Every Transatlantic back to back
From or to Ny is.
The same for Qm2 cruises from Ny to Canada
Cunard never lost money from NY:D
Fully booked with 3000+ pax going one way each way and 25 or less at best going B2B round trip...a market too small to fill one of the zodiacs on board. But you are right about not losing money which is why there are more than a score of scheduled Cunard voyages to and from NYC every year
19. Laat time we did a B2B TA we loved it but there were about 14 of us out of 3000+ pax each way. Probably not a large enough demo to construct your entire company business and marketing plan to attract.
