May I ask, are you in a suite or a regular cabin?

We are in regular cabin. We ordered the drinks on 2 phones,  got as far as choosing the drinks and added to basket then pressed 'place order' simultaneously on the 2 phones. The confirmation appeared immediately on both of them then moved onto being prepared in seconds.

The service is very good on the ship at the moment probably because there are only 1295 passengers on this cruise instead of 3500+. I'm not sure if it would be as quick if the ship was full.

There were more waiters than passengers in the MDR at lunch!

  2. We are currently on Sky Princess and have the Princess Plus rate which includes service for drinks. We have realised if we each have more than 2 alcoholic drinks a day we are on a winner. The cheapest glass of wine is $9 plus service charge but most are $11+.(any drink up to $12 is included).. then there is bottled water,  speciality coffee etc that are also included. Certainly is a good deal!

Cannot speak for Sky but we got off Regal on Thursday and there were 1512 passengers onboard compared to the normal capacity of 3500+. As far as the dress code was concerned there were some in dinner suits and ordinary suits but also many in jeans and even shorts on the 2 formal nights. It is one of the downsides of Princess is there formal code and not been adhered too.

We are on Sky on 28th Sept for 7 nights so will have 2 formal nights too,  which nights were yours on Regal? How did you find the ship with such a lot fewer passengers than usual and how was the service?

    Many thanks for any tips.

The wait for drinks on Sky was long - not the bar staff fault they were working their absolute socks off, and if you managed to catch someone attention on the deck who was rushing around with a tray full of drinks trying to find the person who actually managed to order on the app - they would apologise and say they would try and get back to you - really not their fault the app is hopeless and when you consider ship was only two thirds full - it’s only going to get worse unless they sort it out !!!

I sympathize with the OP.  I would find that very annoying.  BUT, I would just go ahead and do it the old fashioned way.  Belly up to a bar together and enjoy not only your drinks together, but the company of a very fine Princess bartender.

According to recent UK cruisers going to the bar is not allowed so can only order on the app or catch the attention of a waiter.

  5. We are on Sky in 2 weeks and wondered if you had any tips for best places to get served quickly? If you order drinks on the app how soon after will it let you order another drink thinking that if it takes a long time to arrive may as well have another one ordered. Was it easy to get drinks in the mdr or would it be a good idea to take one in with us (presuming we could get served)

    Thanks for any info.

Is the Blue Lane the only option for UK cruises?

When trying to upload the security photo just get the message ‘Data not available. Please try after sometime’. Won’t let me go any further.

We are in the UK and managed to complete all of the information required, had several attempts before the passports would scan but they did eventually. I took new security photos not uploaded ones from somewhere else. The only section I have not completed is the health questionnaire but now we are already showing as green lane.

  7. MDR breakfast times are usually 7am - 9am. Here's the MDR breakfast menu (The MSC Express is the closest your hubby will get to a full English)

Perfect thank you[emoji4] That should keep him happy especially as he can have poached eggs as well.

  8. We are on our first MSC cruise in September on Magnifica and were wondering about the breakfast options. Husband doesnt like going to the buffet for breakfast on the other cruiselines we have been on as it is too busy.

Will the MDR be open for breakfast and is it to be recommended? What times is it usually open? Will hubby be able to have his full English breakfast?

    Many thanks.

  9. We are leaving for the Royal transatlantic in a couple of weeks. With the record setting hot temperatures in Europe, what are the temperatures like while sailing? This will be our 6th fall TA in northern Europe, but we've never experienced such warm temperatures. We usuallydress in layers, but we wonder if we should be packing more lightweight clothes.
We live in the UK and returned from the British Isles cruise 2 weeks ago. Whilst we were on the cruise apart from at Southampton, Guernsey and Le Havre where it was quite hot, most of the ports we stopped at were quite cool.

The weather in the UK has changed now and the temperatures have dropped with no sign of returning to the high temperatures we were having.

As you have previously experienced layers are the best option in our unpredictable climate!

  10. Am I right in thinking that if a drink is free there is nothing to sign for?
You dont sign for any drinks now paid or not unless they are over a certain amount ($50 I think) and they dont provide receipts either. They say it is to save on paper but still deliver half a rain forest of flyers to the cabin everyday selling the spa and shops!

  11. We are new too and live in the UK and will be sailing on Magnifica on 24th september. On our cruise personaliser (or whatever they call it on MSC) it says tickets will be e-mailed 21 days before sailing.

If you think their website isnt as user friendly as P&O you should have tried it before it was updated recently. It seems quite good now in comparison![emoji32]

Not quite sure what to expect on the cruise so will be going with an open mind.

  12. Glad you wrote this! I am sitting at my computer reading this thread, wondering what the heck a kettle was and why a stateroom would need it!!!!!!!!!!!! My first thought was along the line of Halloween and witches!

    Pooh

A kettle is an electric jug that boils water and switches itself off after boiling. Ideal for making tea which needs boiling water to make a decent drink. The main reason I think for you not using them in the US is because your voltage is only 110v and in the UK its 240v and therefore boils much faster for us.

It is probably quicker for you to boil water in a pan.

Most UK cruiselines have had kettles in their staterooms for many years because we Brits cant survive without our tea.

As there are a lot of British passengers that cruise from Southampton, putting kettles in the cabins on Sapphire will keep them happy.

Unfortunately for us there wasnt a kettle in the cabin on Royal last week also sailing from Southampton[emoji852]

  13. I think the wait staff is still confused on the new cards. I ordered a mocktail at dinner one night and the waiter brought over a form for me to sign. Other times, I ordered a soda from a bar and the bartender didn't even ask for my card. Maybe he remembered me?
Yes I think you are right. Sometimes in the buffet when I ordered a coke they asked if I had a package and didnt want to see my card and other times asked for it.

  14. Be careful how you charge the drinks if you dont both have the drinks package.

We have just come off the Royal I had the soda and more package and husband no package. On the first evening I ordered a mocktail and husband had a beer and I paid for both on my card so expected to be charged only for the beer. On checking the account the next day I noticed I had been charged for both drinks so queried it at guest services. It took them ages to work it out but eventually said it was because there were 2 drinks on my card at the same time, even though I expected to pay for one anyway. Didnt make any sense to me but from then on husband paid on his own card for his drinks.

We never had to do this when there was a sticker on the card and I could just pay for his drink instead of getting 2 cards out as all the charges for the cabin go to my credit card anyway.

This also means if you want to buy a drink for anyone you wont get yours free.
