  1. Lou, great review, and I would love to see the Cruise compass as we will be on for 11. Nights in February. Thanks also for the positives.....there have been so many negatives about Dynamic dining, and your experience pretty much mirrored ours when we were onboard in November.

I thought it was pretty nice. The dining rooms were quite elegant, and service was pretty good, we never had to wait and dinner took about an hour or so.

  2. I am not sure it is as much age as attitude and likes. I am a 60 year old "Early Adopter" and very excited about the new technology. I don't think there could be too much tech for me. I like all the gadgets, information access and control the technology provides. I can remember when many complained about cellphones becoming a leash that your boss can always reach you. I looked at them as my freedom that allowed me to be anywhere to do my job including a cruise ship (if I wanted). I am familiar enough with technology to know that I should wait for the bugs to be worked out so I did not book a cruise until she is in action for a couple of months.

There are plenty of old fashion ships in the Royal fleet for the traditionalist (young and old) and by the time the technology reaches these ships it will be accepted.

So this is one "good customer" who is looking forward to the this techie ship.

    Like your comments!

We were on Quantum for 5 days recently, and we are not "millenials" by any chance. Yes, there were "Bugs" to be worked out, but we are looking forward to a longer cruise onboard Quantum in February, and trust those bugs will have been fixed.

Both of us are "old":D but we enjoyed Quantum. I had reservations about things like DD, but waited to see how it was working. We are very much traditionalists, having been cruising since 1980, and learned not to comment on things until we had experienced them during the My Time Dining introduction. We had always had late seating, same wait staff, and loved it, and were sure we were not going to like MTD when it was introduced. We tried it once, and have never gone back to traditional! Also, DD worked just fine for us, dined at Chic, American Icon Grille, Grande (twice) and Coastal Kitchen, and never waited for a table and never spent more than 60-90 minutes at dinner,

Us "old" people tried the bumper cars, I Fly,and North Star but it was too cold for the Flowrider:D

Glad to see there are other "old" folks out there who can appreciate and embrace "change". Plenty of ships for everyone:)

  3. The Sea Pass card (only one, no bracelets) is in a sealed envelope that has to be opened with a pull tab. The envelope has a message saying if this has been opened or tampered with in any way, go to Guest Services. It would be very evident that someone had opened it.

Your other card and bracelets are in your stateroom. One problem with the bracelet is that no name is on the bracelet....when my husband signed the waiver for I Fly, he had my bracelet....lucky for him I was right there and we could switch bracelets.

Yes, someone could open the envelope, go in the room and take the cards and bracelets. They could also take any wine, etc., that may have been ordered for you. However, it is impossible to open the envelope and try to reclose it, without it being very evident that it has been opened. Once you reach your room, you would know the envelope had been tampered with and you would go to Guest Services (another problem, I realize). HOWEVER, there are cameras everywhere, so not much chance of getting away with your goods!

If you don't go to your room and get your SeaPass card immediately upon boarding, you can use your Set Sail pass to buy drinks in any bar......so no one has to go thirsty:D

The mini bar was locked, so don't know how anyone could steal anything from that.

The OP has a valid gripe and I hope it gets addressed to his satisfaction.

  4. What happened to you is inexcusable! I am a very loyal Royal who spent 5 days on quantum, and was lucky enough to have no issues, but I don't doubt for one minute what you say happened.

Please don't hesitate to email Royal Caribbean, I have found they are usually very good about getting back to you. You can use agoldstein@rccl.com

    Good luck!

  5. We're were on the three night sampler and the two nights previous. On the 3 night sampler there were men in Grande in t shirts and jeans, and some others without jackets. I am not doubting what you saw, but I know what we saw, and we had a discussion about the dress code with the two women (who were very nicely dressed) at the next table

  6. While onboard quantum last week, a ships officer, not the Captain, was hosting a large table in Grande.

No tuxes that I could see, but they say "formal" means a collared shirt for men and dressy tops for women. They were not enforcing even that dress code. I did hear that once the regular sailings start(with the inaugural that started Sunday) they would enforce the dress code. Perhaps someone onboard now can confirm.

  7. We rode the NorthStar on November 18, while the ship was docked in Bayonne.

The port will allow the NorthStar to operate in port, only over the footprint of the ship.....it cannot swing out over the sides, due to the air traffic above the port, according to the operator of the NorthStar.

    Definitely a great view

  9. Still on quantum and after 5 days I can help answer some questions.

Sit down breakfast offered at American icon grille, could be other places too.

Sorrentos is onboard, thin crust pizza

No alternative menu in any restaurant, as far as I know. We ate at American icon grille, Grande, chic, and Coastal Kitchen and no alternative menu was offered or mentioned.

Diamond lounge has continental breakfast, but no dedicated sit down breakfast for Diamond or diamond plus. However, suite guests can have breakfast at coastal kitchen As well as lunch and dinner at the same venue

  10. Had a similar situation. Found a sale with a $100 per cabin onboard credit, but the cabin would be priced $15 more. Don't know about you, but I would pay$15 to get $100!

First rep called resolutions, they couldn't see the price I was seeing(even though it was on their website) and said they couldn't do,anything. This took about 25 minutes. Called today and in 5 minutes had the onboard credit aded to the reservation, and we did not go thru resolutions.

You should not have to make numerous phone calls to get things done correctly

  11. Received a flyer from Royal which mentions he new "suite lounge". Flyer states continental breakfast and cocktails available for suite guests as part of the new suite perks. Also mentions that California kitchen is available only to suite and Pinnacle guests. Foes not mention that suite lounge will be available to Pinnacles, so we shall see!

  12. We also stayed at LaQuinta and found it quite comfortable and reasonable.

We left our car there for the week at no charge and we did pay a minimal amount for the shuttle to and from the ship. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Have also stayed at the Radisson and left the car, but would prefer the Cocoa Beach area.....more restaurants and things to do in that area.

  13. travelgodess and elleluv

We are in the same boat (literally) we are on the Brilliiance repo and the Nov. 16 pre-inaugural and haven't heard anything since we registered. My invitation read the same as yours, that we would be receiving the booking number the week of Sept. 22.

I'm sure they will have the numbers out to us pretty soon(optimistic, aren't I):D

I do check e-mails every day when I am on a ship, so if it takes until then I will be sure to let you know. Lucky for us we live in the Boston area, so we have no plane or hotel reservations to worry about.

  14. And if the weather is nice, the conciergelounge has a nice outside area!

Depending on the numbers, the concierge lounge can be very crowded, and so can the diamond lounge.

Last year we spent 46 days on Brilliance doing a b2b Baltic then transatlantic, and the l

Conciergelounge was overflowing every night. Same thing in October during the repositioning, both lounges over capacity. I heard over 700 diamond, Diamond plus and pinnacles onboard for those sailings.

Since we will again do the repositioning, I am hoping the drink vouchers will help!
