  1. Hi All!

Just made D+ (realistically the highest level we will ever reach)...Benefits section of C+A page says that level includes access to the Concierge Lounge and special seating areas of ice rink, theater, pool decks, etc. My question is whether that now means the same as having a suite (Gold Card) on the ship. Reason I ask is that our most recent cruise on Allure was in a suite, and they seemed pretty adamant that only "Gold Cards" could access those areas?

And around the pool decks when it says reserved for gold cards only, d+ are not allowed in. As another poster said, on Oasis class, concierge lounge is for gold cards only, Diamond plus now have access to diamond lounge, nor concierge lounge.

  2. Have dined with the Captain 3 times. First time it was because we "looked like a fun group." We actually were. Dinner started at 8:30 and we were still there at 11:45 while they were setting up for the Chocolate Buffet (1999).

The second time was on a Trans Atlantic. We (the guys) were wearing Flamingo Ties with our tuxes at the Captains Reception. He asked about them and a friend told the story behind them. He commented we seemed like a fun group of friends and she said we were, and he should have dinner with us. So two nights before the last Formal Night the Captain personally came looking for us in the Diamond/Concierge Event to get our room numbers for an invitation.

The last time, the Restaurant Manager asked us. He did it privately because he wasn't asking our table mates. The reason was, he said, that they weren't quite dressed appropriately for Formal Night. He had done us a great service in changing our table and visited us every night, so he got to know us. That was also a big consideration.

The food is usually a very nice menu. It is specific to the Captain's Table, and there is nice wine with each course. It's a very nice event.

One comment, not trying to stir the pot, if you don't dress for Formal Night you likely won't be asked. I have never seen anyone at the Captain's Table in less than coat and tie for men. I don't know how they decide for first formal night, and can't say I've particularly noticed if anyone is dressed casually at the Captain's Table. But if you really want an invitation, I'd suggest dressing for Formal Night, and get to know the Maitre D'.

I used to think it had something to do with your formal nite appearance, but the last few times we have dined with the Captain we had a man sitting with us with a sport shirt, no jacket or tie and last month we had a gentleman with no jacket, a loud plaid shirt but he did have a bow tie on, he was a b2b cruiser and said he had dined with the captain the week before, and someone who had been at the Captains table with him said he was dressed the same way.

    Go figure!........

  3. Once revitalization was done, those areas had inside cabins added and the formerly public areas (library on 9 and Explorers court on 8) were made much smaller public spaces with just a few chairs and tables. The business center on 7 did not change if I recall correctly, you can still access the computers and printer in that area,.

  4. Well our outbound flight was 9:50 a.m and we were at the gate at 8:50, took a cab no,problem. There is also a shared shuttle service for $10 per person and if your flight is noon you have plenty of time to take the shared shuttle and save a few bucks, as the flat rate is $25 for the taxi.

We had an early number and the concierge escorted us off, so I was comfortable with the flight time. If we were not entitled to those perks, I would have scheduled a later flight, probably around 11 or noon.

  5. Very interesting :) I like option two. Does RCI allow you to book kids in a separate room with no adult on the reservation? I know DCL doesn't but I've never done RCI. I assume since kids are cheaper in the family suite that we'd still have an upcharge if I included 4 adults in the suite and 3 kids in a separate room?

KIDS are not cheaper in the family suite. Any 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th guest in that suite, regardless of age, is the same price, which is usually less than the first and second guest. (I say"usually" as i have seen guests 3 and 4 be priced higher than 1 and 2 but that is a rare occurrence.)Royal allows you to have the kids in a room directly across the hall or next door without having an adult in that room.

  6. To try to answer some of your questions:

We could make arrangements to take our adult kids to Coastal Kitchen, because they had room for them. I think it depends on availability, and i dont know if you can make reservations prior to the cruise using the cruise planner.

As Carol said, no tendering on Oasis class.

You wil priority debarkation on debarkation day, but the rest of your party will not.

If you rent a cabana on Labadee, you are allowed to take a number of guests with you, even if they are not in a suite. However, most cabanas are iimited to 6 guests, but you might be able to get the concierge to allow 7. If you do not rent a cabana, folks not in a suite will not be allowed on Barefoot Beach.

As far as the reserved seats for the shows.....there is a separate section for gold card holders and they will check your card before you are allowed to enter that section. There are not enough seats for everyone in a suite in that section (not everyone in a suite will be going to that show so that is not a problem). They will hold those seats until about 15 minutes before the performance starts then open them up to anyone, regardless of the color of their seapass card.

    Hope this helps a little.

  7. We have stayed at LaQuinta and there is a shuttle to he pier, it as $10.00 pp, I believe. They also had a shuttle to the shopping center which had a number of places to eat, including a neat diner, think it is called the "moonlight"

    Diner, but I'm not sure.

LaQuinta was fine, from was clean and breakfast was fine.

  8. Go to insuremytrip.com. There is at last on ensure de company that will insure for pre existing conditions as long as the insurance is purchased before final payment.

Also. Your father may have his condition taken care of before you cruise. My husband had a heart problem in September, had a heart catherization on September 8 and a triple bypass on September 28. We are planning on cruising on October 25, and his doctors have said he should go. We had made final payment in August, so we thought we would have to cancel the cruise, but he has been home for a week and is doing just fine, so we expect to go. everyone is different, and I had purchased insurance beforehand, so cancellation would not have been a problem.

    Good luck!

  9. Yes, it ONE person in the cabin is over 55, or military, or EMT, or police or fire the whole cabin is entitled to the discount. Same with resident discount, as sometimes people cruise together who live in different states, and if either state has a resident discount, it is applied to the booking for both guests.

  10. Have done caribbean on both quantum and Serenade. Anthem will have more kids, especially being Easter week. More restaurant choices on Anthem, bigger solarium on Anthem, more upscale stores. Demographics probably a bit older on Serenade, fewer kids. Smaller ship, easier to get around, lots of glass everywhere. Smoke in quantum casino really bad, not quite as bad in Serenade. Loved dynamic dining, but that was JMHO. Staff on Serenade

Nicer Han staff on Quantum, but probably because when we sailed Quanntum it was new and they were working out the kinks.

Serenade and Radiance class is our favorite class, but we recently did Oasis again and still enjoyed it very much.

Not having to fly would be a plus for us, but I would have a hard time picking which one to do, love them both. Would probably come down to price for me.

Weather would be warm immediately on Serenade, but might take a day or so to get to warm weather on Anthem. Also, think of the weather on the return.

Don't think you can go wrong with either option, have fun deciding!

  11. Reno, perhaps the poster meant to say a passport has to have at least six months left before the expiration date if you use it to cruise. While that may be the case in some countries, we have been with folks who had four months left out of the ten year expiration date, and they had no problem entering or leaving.

Just make sure you have a government issued photo ID available with the certified birth certificate and he will be fine.

Kids between 16 And 18 without a passport need a government issued photo ID, and a school ID with a picture will suffice, along with the certified birth certificate,.
