  1. If it is all on the same ticket, they tried to trick you, no goodwill whatsoever. The agent probably didn't take a proper look at your reservation.

Let's take this imaginary trip as an example:

LHR - JFK - BOS same day travel, booked as 1 ticket -> bag allowance is included in your ticket

LHR - JFK - BOS where the JFK - BOS leg is done a few days later, but is ticketed on the same reservation -> Also in this case, bag allowance is included for ALL legs

LHR - JFK - BOS where the JFK - BOS leg is either the same day or on a later date, but has been issued as a separate ticket, you will need to pay for the JFK - BOS part

However, if you buy tickets through 3rd party agents it might not always be very clear to you if all the flights have been ticketed under the same PNR. Therefore, always check the PNR number and cross check that on the airline's website to see if the number of flights on that PNR match the ones you have on your reservation you've gotten from your travel agent.

  2. We dislike Lufthansa since we travel with carry ons only. Not only do they measure your carry on but they weigh it - and if it's an ounce over 8 kg you have to check it. No other airline I have flown is as picky as Lufthansa

That would solely depend on the check-in/gate agent you have assigned to your flight. You can have the most strict rules, if the agent decides not to enforce them, they mean nothing.

  3. While this is generaly true, skf, be careful with that statement. Because DL also charges for several destinations in Central America, Mexico & the Caribbean. All of those destinations being International as well.

  4. Even if you book a multi-city ticket with multiple days between flights on the same PNR, you will still have the "free" bag allowance.

However, be careful if you book these kind of tickets through third party websites, as they sometimes tend to scramble together separate tickets into one reservation. So you will see your flights as 1 reservation through them, but in fact, you could have bought completely separate tickets.

If all of your flights are listed on your confirmation on the Delta website, you're safe.

  5. Pay the penalty and change to fly a day earlier.

That's pretty much the best advice one could possible give.

Traffic in London can (and is at times) a total mess.

And arriving at 11 doesn't mean you'll leave the airport at 1130. You'll need to get through immigration, pick up your bags, etc.

You really don't want to arrive at the pier just to hear you've missed the boarding time. Bite the bullet and pay the change fee.

Is it really necessary? Maybe, maybe not. But if it will be, the change fee will be a fraction of what you'll be paying to get to the next port of call (and all of that precious vacation time of course).

  6. Our flight into FLL arrives at 11am which seems to be plenty of time to get to the Port. Is it reasonable for us to consider a taxi going to/from the port? Carnival seems pricey and Super Shuttle is even worse. Has anyone used a taxi and/or Uber?

Do you think that is a good idea?

Last time I've been at Port Everglades, traffic was at a total gridlock. Taking over 2 hours from my hotel (halfway between the airport and the cruise terminal) to the pier.

Nevertheless, a taxi might be the most effective way and there's plenty of them available at FLL. Now just hope there's not too many ships in port and traffic runs smoothly.

  7. I never said you would be giving out unclear or false info. I said that it is possible the OP may not provide all the pertinents.

If you are comfortable giving this advice - by all means - I am certain most will appreciate it.

Would you be among the few here who would actually follow up?

I don't respond to many threads, but the ones I do engage in, I follow until the issue is resolved or a solution has been found

Would you be among the few here who actually have knowledge in this area?

    I most certainly am.

Passport and visa requirements may seem a complicated matter, but if you have the knowledge, the answers are very straightforward.

  8. I don't work for an embassy or consulate. But I am appointed (yes, by law, in case you wondered) to take decisions whether or not a certain travel document (both passports and/or visa) suffices to travel.

Do you really think I wouldn't ask any further information if the Timatic (the bible for passport & visa) would give an unclear response with the info OP gave?

Trust me, I see enough people being left behind because their local instances give them wrong or outdated information. Maybe things in the US are different, but I've seen people from all over the world holding papers (given out by local officials) stating they need travel documents A & B while in fact they need A, B & C. While that info might have been correct at one point, it was no longer the case when they traveled. These things can change every month.

You'll have to take my word for it, but when it comes to passport and visa questions, I'm one of the few people on CC who is able to give a crystal clear answer to them.

I'm wondering what made you think I'd be giving out unclear or false information.

  9. Oh, yes, OP should wait for an anonymous poster on CC to get back to him/her - or perhaps might follow the suggestion about contacting relevant consulates to get information.

Fyi, if you've followed other visa/passport threads, you'd know I handle passport and visa issues at work. Don't just assume people reply without any knowledge.

    Lighten up, geez.

  10. I normally get in around 1130am for a cruise that leaves around 4 or 5.

Gives you ample of time to eat, unpack (if your bags make it on time), explore the ship and prepare for the muster drill.

But others I've travelled with in the past prefer to get there later to avoid the crowds and tend to get there around 1pm - 2pm. But I want to enjoy every minute of my cruise :-)

  11. Cancelled, I don't even want to think about the delays that will occur. Even if a flight might operated, it is very likely to be affected by some bad delays as a knock-on effect.

And yes, domestic in Europe means within Europe, no matter how many international borders you cross ;)

  12. Are you willing to start an altercation and perhaps get a punch in the nose? Someone who is bold enough and inconsiderate of others to play their music in public is not likely to turn it down or off at your polite request.

Same goes for the balcony noisemakers. That's the job of the crew.

Talking to a person directly often has more effect than you might think. And I'm not talking about punches here. I'm sorry, but with that mindset you might as well stay in your cabin, because God forbid you'd run into someone who might punch you in the face.

I work with tourists on a daily basis, and yes, quite a bunch of them are rude and obnoxious, but I have yet to encounter one to punch. And I've had to deliver much harder messages than asking to turn down their music.

Off topic so please forgive me.

My father’s parents immigrated from St. Niklass, Belgium in 1912. I have a rare last name for both in the USA and in Belgium. Due to that I found my second cousin there. Being the wonderful people that they are, we were immediately invited over for a visit. That trip dramatically changed my life as I had never been out of the USA. This change lead to cruising and trying to see as much of the world as possible (31 countries so far). I don’t speak Flemish but I often can figure out what is said.

    Again, sorry off topic.

Such a great story, thank you for sharing it :-)

I admire people who have a rich family history as mine is a rather dull one, as for most Belgian families who've been born and raised here for centuries.

I hope you'll come and visit us great little corner of the world again some time soon :-)

  13. Yes, HMC is fake, but you need to look past it. Don't just stay within a few yards of the docks where the tenders are. Explore the island and you'll have some great views.

I've been to Amber Cove as well. While the area around AC is stunning, the port itself is just put there to attract cruiseships, so expect the typical Caribbean "shopping" area right after disembarkation at the end of the pier.

They have shuttles to and from the main building (bikes if I recall correctly).

The port is completely owned (and built) by Carnival Corp., so expect no authenticity whatsoever. This is one of the reasons I find it such a pity lots of cruises now go to Amber Cove instead of Samana where nature is just stunning (caves, mangroves, and a more authentic feeling of the real Caribbean).

To enjoy Amber cove, you'll have to rent a car or scooter to explore the area, because there is absolutely nothing within walking distance

  14. Memorable for me:

    - First cruise down the Caribbean (and first cruise ever) a pod of dolphins was swimming near the ship, a colleague and myself saw it, asked a crewmember if it was indeed a dolphin and since it was, it was passed onto the captain who came on the PA to make the announcement we were being followed by dolphins

    - A few years ago on the Nieuw Amsterdam (could have been Eurodam as well) we were in the showroom attending a presentation when the alarm went off and the captain came onto the PA with the words: "This is not a drill" A fire broke out in one of the cabins.

    - The year after that, on the Noordam, the power throughout the entire ship went out. It was a calm night with full moon and the ocean never looked so peaceful and beautiful

    - This year, was standing on the Promenade deck watching an idyllic sunset on route from Key West to Ft. Lauderdale (last night of the cruise) when I met a special someone. Most memorable night of my entire life.
