  1. Hi Gerry. So sorry you had that happen to you! I live in Regina now but I was born and grew up in Saskatoon. It is so scary when something like that happens far from home! Had a medical emergency in Paris years ago and ended up in the hospital. So glad all is well and you are safe at home. One hint about insurance. Sask health should cover some (we actually contacted our MLA and he got it done when we got some flack). Good luck and keep healthy!

  2. On our first cruise we tried to go to a show. You would think that Garth Brooks was entertaining that night the crowd was so big...and pushy. We just walked out and on our cruises we have never actually went to or tried to go see a show again. I found the movies under the stars a lot more relaxing and easier to find a seat without getting pushed around. I am on a cruise to distress, not to get more stressed out lol.

Also, on that same cruise, (Island Princess, Feb, 2013) there was this gent, about 65ish. Every time we saw him around the ship he was really loud and braggy, about his cruise level, his general knowledge, etc. He was with a whole group of his friends, about his age and they looked embarrassed to be with him...lol. Well to top it off, on the plane home, there he was lol. He delayed the plane because he has left his wallet in airport security in the bins. We ALL missed our connection. The whole plane was upset. People from another cruise who were handicapped were forced to sit at the airport waiting for a new connection. We had to overnight an extra day. But Boy he was quiet for rest of the trip lol

  3. Oh but there is :) All of ours have been perfect. We are together, we are not at work, no phones, no family (except each other), we get to flowboard every day. Life is great on a cruise. It is the one time every year we can reconnect as a couple and leave the world behind :D They ARE perfect because I am with my husband. While neither one of us is perfect, we are perfect for each other :p

Well said.. I have always had perfect cruises as well! I feel so fortunate to still be healthy enough to travel...to be financially able to travel and to have someone I love to travel with

  4. Congrats on your 20th! I would do a little Internet searching. There are some beautiful new ships out of Florida for 7 day cruises. I am not sure about October though. I am not from Florida but I think that may be storm season. You probably can get a good deal on a cruise at that time but I would insure it! My DH and I have our anniversary in Nov but we always take a 3 week holiday in Feb or March. No hurricanes and we need to get away from the cold.

Take a look at some of the different cruise reviews to get some ideas. We are Princess cruisers because we like a laid back, romantic type cruise. I love children (I have 7 and 9 grandkids) but not a lot of them on my holiday. Our first cruises we did not see many kids. Tends to cater to older folks and even though we are in our early 50s this is fine with us.

You have lots of time. Find a cruise and then read the reviews. Good luck!

  5. I also noticed this on another line, prices going up big time. I thought I had read it wrong lol. I am going to have to take a smaller room or really watch for sales!

  6. I fly a lot by myself to see my kids. Last couple flights I had husky gents right beside me. I offered to pull up the arm rest when we got in the air because the poor guy looked so uncomfortable. They make plane seats small and I feel sorry for anybody who is built more ample.

The worst person I sat beside was a skinny woman who had a real bad attitude right from the start. She actually threw her carryon at landing on her seat, creaming me in the face! This was after a very uncomfortable flight where she threw stuff here and there and did not say a peep! I ignored her all the way, figured she was off her meds or something...I do not like confrontation so I waited till she was long gone before I even got out of my seat. Too bad, I have met some super nice folks on planes! I am one of the people who would move for someone to be comfortable on a plane...no problem! Good luck and relax and have a good flight!

  7. Oh yes, I know the disappointment of missing a port. Our cruise to Panama Canal the weather was too rough to dock in Costa Rica. We had an extra sea day instead. We just got refunded the shore excursion we had planned and dream of making it back some day. I think this happens a lot more than people know! I heard a lot about cruise ships missing the private islands lately because of weather too. eg. Princess Cays , Castaway Cay, etc. A cruise for us right now is a once a year big treat so it is a worry for sure!

  8. Life is too short! Just chuck the stuff out with the other junk mail you get! I hate telemarketers and I just don't answer them anymore! Find an adults only vacation so children bothering you wont be an issue. They must of been pretty noisy! We never hear a peep from the next door neighbours cabins. Good luck with your future trips.

Personally, when we are on our cruises we don't notice much because we are so thankful to be travelling lol...

  9. The suggested way to handle someone who gets physical is to fall down onto the lounger and yell for help if they push you.

You get to keep the lounger and they get to finish their vacation in the next port.

All cruise lines take action against physical altercations.

If somebody threatened to get physical because of a chair I would just walk away. Its just not worth it...If something like that happened, everyone involved just might get booted off the ship!

  10. I typically book my excursions at least a couple of months or more before we cruise. I sail on March 7 and I did notice a few that I booked were sold out. I would take a look online and if you see something that you absolutely want to do, I would pre book. On the other hand there is always some that do not sell out..Last couple cruises we were on I did hear people complaining about excursions being sold out though. Have a wonderful cruise!

  11. I don't know what's wrong with some people! I would never hog a chair like that! The only way I would save a seat is if I was getting up to get a drink, etc. Hubby and I had to go a little early and sit in our chairs before movies because it was impossible to get seating closer to the movie but never, ever would I leave a towel and take off for hours! Not nice!

  12. When my husband took early retirement, the argument he used to overcome my ambivalence was, "Well, we'll be able to go on more cruises." Considering how much we've spent on Princess since then, they bloody well should have celebrated his retirement.

Lol. I loved this when I read it! I am pretty sure my hubby has this in the back of his mind..I have the next 15 cruises planned. You only live once!! Doesn't mean you have to be crazy but enjoy !!!

Last cruise, my Dh and I were actually scolded by this gent who was about 20 years older than us that we were too young to be retired or to be close to retirement...lol. You know , in my life we have lost so many people that if you possibly can and you want to and you can afford it.... Why not!!!!

    Jo

  13. Congratulations on your retirement! I went about 10 years ago at about 44 due to several back surgeries. I did work since I was 15 though lol. Hubby started at his career at age 17 and one of the perks of his job is retirement at 55. He has two more years to go and I cannot wait. The best part of our life is yet to come..

    Have a wonderful cruise!

  14. Your not a geek! When we sail my husband tell the kids to log onto the ship cams at a certain time so he can wave lol. Doesn't work great though because the cam is hard to wave from lol, unless you climb over the fence to get at it. Now HE is a geek lol. You just love boats...who doesn't !!!

  15. There is nothing wrong with paying in advance. We always do and it gets it out of the way! We have been on two princess cruises and about to take another 14 day b2b in a few weeks.

I book early and I vigilantly watch for sales..it pays off every time! First cruise we got upgraded to a mini and I got 400 back..Second cruise we got two price reductions credited to us.

This upcoming was the best deal. I booked over a year ago and it went on sale twice. I ended up paying over a thousand less and getting 600 in room credit for this trip. So keep your eyes on the website and good luck! Have a great cruise!!!

    All the best

  16. I bought water shoes before our first cruise 3 years ago and they are great for all aspects of water sports! I love them and I bought them at Sears on line for around 20. Tried to get some for hubby but had a hard time finding bigger ones..he is not as much into the water as I am so he doesn't mind!

  17. We use credit card for our shipboard account and for the hotel room in Florida. For everything else we take a few thousand in American cash. We keep it in the room safes and take out a little as we need it for each island that we dock on. They all take American cash in the carrib. I try to not give out the credit card info to anything but princess and my hotel..

  18. We live so far away from Florida (western Canada) that what we do every year is make the pre-cruise part of the holiday. We go 4 days ahead, see the beautiful state of Florida and if our flight is delayed it is not a huge issue. Last year our flight came in 6 hours late because of tech issues. If we had flown in the day of the cruise we would of missed it! If you do fly in the same day I would suggest insurance for missing the boat. For the same price you could book a hotel. We plan our trips a year ahead of time. We got excellent air fair prices this way and a couple of discounts on the cruise from the odd sale here and there. Try some of the last minute deals on websites for deals on your flights. Good luck and have a great trip no matter what you decide.

  19. What I do is watch my cruise after In book it. First cruise we booked a balcony. The mini-suites went on sale a few months after so I called and upgraded to a MS and also got about 300.00 refunded to my account. The next cruise also went on sale so I called in and got a refund of about 200.00. We were already booked into a MS so we stayed where we were. The cruise we are on, coming up in March we booked into a MS and we booked it a year in advance since it was almost sold out. I noticed last week that the cabins were on sale and got a refund of over 600 and an extra 150 on our room account. Shortly after I had booked I also got a smaller refund but I cant remember how that came to be. All in all we got 375 room credit and almost 1000 in savings. All I did was log on to the cruise website every few days and keep my eyes on our trip. We also only put 50 percent down until the rest is due just in case this happens.

  20. As A couple fairly new to the world of cruising we take shore excursions every time we stop. It is just a matter of being comfortable and getting used to the area. With our third cruise coming up you live and learn a little more each time. Last cruise we booked a catamaran with a lobster lunch excursion. The trip itself was wonderful but the food was terrible and for the extra money it was not worth it. We will probably do the catamarans a couple of times every time we go and I love to snorkel so we will probably stick with excursions for a while. I think it is a very personal thing and everyone does their own thing on a cruise...that is the beauty of cruising and the reason we love it. To each his own:)

  21. Hey everybody. Got back from our cruise about a week ago. We had beyond...well I cannot even say how wonderful this one was as they only seem to get better. I was so afraid of this cruise breaking my good eating habits but I learned something about myself... When you have been eating healthy for a year your body will not let you overeat...lol I gained not a bit, in fact the pants are loose from all the activities we did. It is the true beauty of slow weight loss that I attribute this to as well. Yes, I had a few treats but food this cruise took a back seat to everything else. I think I have finally figured my body out. Next cruise is booked for March of 2015! Hope all of you got back safe and sound and had a wonderful time as well..

  22. Karen, My closet is a comedy show with sizes from 18 to 6 lol. I was so excited when I figured that I had lost enough to wear my dress pants again and they all were too big..(one of the only bad things about weight loss) That's when I ordered the Sears pants. I was surprised how good a quality they were. We are going to almost the same places...different dates. Maybe next year!!
