  1. Turns out the two free air bookings are ok. One is airprom2 and one is choall5m. The third one with reduced air wasn’t right, but I called and it is fixed. It is a cruisetour with one way airfare because we are staying a week afterward on a different island and the lady said the deviation can only be 2 days. So one way to Honolulu From Chicago is $200 each. I am happy we got this resolved. Thanks everyone.

  2. I have made three different bookings with NCL for cruises that all supposedly included free or reduced air in the fare. I can't seem to find anything on the confirmations or the website page for the specific bookings that confirms that? One of the three confirmations has the airfare city filled in, the other two do not. Should I just call them to confirm or is there a non obvious way to tell on the website or the confirmation? I hate to waste time calling if I am missing something obvious. Also I want it in writing, I don't know that I will trust their verbal assurances.

  3. We went on the Armonia to Cuba in March. Compared to our NCL 2017 trip, which was mostly Americans,  It was most definitely NOT Americans as the majority on Armonia. In fact, we were a very distinct minority. So 80-85% of the ship will still get to go ashore and I guess the Americans can enjoy the uncrowded pool (with gelato bar!) and common areas.

If Cuba won’t let Americans in, then MSC should do the right thing and let you cancel without penalty if you choose to. Personally, without the Cuba stop, you’re booked on a mediocre ship and a dull itinerary as well. It’s a bummer. I am poised to go to Cuba again October 2020 on the new Scarlet Lady. If Cuba is off that itinerary, I’m still going!

  4. I say thanks to the thread starter for this post, because when I am on a cruise (or any vacation) the food is a very important component of OUR trips. I could see how to some this might not matter at ALL, and to people like myself and OP, it can be a deal breaker. Want to know why I would never sail Princess again, even though I liked the ship? Their “specialty” coffee (and regular) was absolutely intolerable to my husband, who is a coffee fiend. It’s a total dealbreaker for him. I love him and don’t want him to suffer.

Now as for me, I LOVE bread, to me it is often the best part of the meal. Horrible bread is the reason why many, many restaurants are off “my list” and the same will go for a cruise too. My husband knows about this and has learned to live with excluding some otherwise good restaurants because of the bread issue.

My worst nightmare would be to be trapped for a week or more on a ship with ****ty food, I KNOW I would not enjoy myself. Some people may think this is nitpicking, but always remember that the little things ARE the big things! Messed up bread (or food) will mess up my vacation. Period. Thank you OP for bringing this to light. I will be dubiously eyeing the bread basket when I sail in a few weeks to Alaska.

  5. Hi everyone, OP here. I was able to get the lower price from HAL which was a few dollars more than the TA price, I am not sure if their website had a glitch, but it wasn't showing on their website that they had lowered the price, too. We had no perks to begin with, so we had nothing to lose. Got $300 off each person, which I felt was good (about 9%). They also had me talk to the mariner people, and they corrected my husband's status also to 1 star. So I am all set, thanks for your help.

My friend had already paid in full even though final payment is not due, I encouraged her to call to see if she could get something because of the price drop (she has the same suite category). Do you think they will offer her anything, or tell her she is out of luck because she prepaid?

  6. Hi,

I am about a week away from final payment. Looking online at some TA sites, I see the price has dropped approximately 10%. If I call Holland America, is there any chance they will reprice my cruise? I do NOT want to lose my cabin since I have a corner aft suite, and many excursions and specialty dining paid for, so I don’t want to have to cancel and rebook.

Along similar lines, what do they do after final payment for you, if anything? I live in fear that I will pay and the price will drop ridiculously the next day.

Also how do I correct my husband’s status? We have both previously sailed on both Carnival and Princess, but only I show as 1 Star.

  7. I've never seen Coke Zero on a cruise before - and that's my go to beverage. I ask every time in hopes that they now have it available, but it's never been there.

Carnival and Norwegian have it also. That's all I drink normally.

  8. Ahhh. Your comment about having a happy relationship (and therefore not needing to do a renewal) gave me the wrong impression.

I believe you are correct-- some like to do it and some aren't interested 🙂 And happily, it's an option to do, or not, as one pleases.

My husband and I have been doing it every 5 years and we are very much in love, no relationship problems here! Lol, although I DO joke with my husband that our marriage is a 5 year lease with option for renewal at the end of the term.

It started because we originally got married in our backyard, and I wanted formal pictures, so I surprised him with the first vow renewal by taking the family, the best man and Maid of honor to Vegas.

Over the years the number of people we take has been expanded and the location changes each time, Bahamas, Cabo, and so on.

At this point, it's about a dozen people that includes daughter and boyfriend, nephew and girlfriend, several friends, the maid of honor and her husband.

We even inspired maid of honor and her husband to do the same thing, and as hubby and I were their matron of honor/best man, we now go on THEIR destination vow renewals every 5 years. It's a wonderful thing. Having done all different types of vow renewals, I would love to do a cruise ship one. What a great idea.

  9. We only drink coffee in the mornings. We buy one card. I go down to the IC in the morning with our two Princess steel travel mugs. They fill one with brewed coffee "for free" and give me one punch for the second brewed coffee. Voila' enough brewed coffee for a 15 day cruise.

By the way - I found this coffee transporter on Amazon - makes getting two cups of coffee back up to the room much easier.

thanks for posting this, I just bought one!
  10. I'm just wondering if anyone has seen their refund yet for cruises that were cancelled? I didn't take a screenshot, and now the reservation is no longer accessible. I'm probably just being paranoid, but I want to make sure there's no problem. Also, I was a little annoyed that the automated calls still went through. Luckily the call was to an adult who had been informed the cruise was cancelled. But what if a kid was called and then had to be told there would be no cruise after all, how disappointing.

  11. I understood the travel insurance for cruises to be limited to basically the passenger cancelling for their own reasons (medical problem or something like that). In this case since Disney was the one to cancel, not the passenger, and are giving a full refund, the person who purchased the insurance shouldn't be penalized for that. Just my opinion. I happen to have my own travel insurance policy, so I don't buy the cruise line insurance, ever.
